WINDOWS FUCKING 10

A couple weeks ago, while I was away from my computer, windows 7 decided to upgrade to windows 10 without prompting me or asking me. Ever since I have "upgraded" to windows 10, my computer has had a host of terrible issues that are driving me insane. This is the most garbage, piece of shit operating system I've ever run before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problems I've encountered:
1: After starting my computer, horrendous and awful flickering, stuttering, flashing, and other visual glitches that make it incredible difficult to do anything. I have found that a clean reinstall of my nvidia drivers fixes this, however after turning off and and turning on again about 3 or 4 times, it comes back.
I've tried removing/reinstalling nvidia drivers, and then completely removing any traces of my old nvidia drivers/files and graphics drivers in general, and then after it defaulted back to integrated graphics, reenabling my graphics card and then reinstalling drivers. My graphics card is a 980ti

2: Since upgrading to widows 10, TF2 likes to crash, usually at horriblly inopportune times. Roughly once a scrim/match it crashes.
I've tried verifying my game files, playing the game totally default, and uninstalling/reinstalling the game. It crashed on all 3 of those tests.
TF2 also likes to take around 4 - 5 minutes to let me see anything other than a black screen after I alt-tab out of it. I've made sure that I don't have my dx settings in my launch options, as I know that can cause that issue.

3: My start button/start bar doesn't work half the time, and when it does it sometimes takes 2 minutes to display. How the fuck do you not having a functional goddamn start button.

4: Rarely, my keyboard isn't detected when I start up. This normally wasn't a problem, since once I logged in a couple just unplug/plug it back in and it would work fine. However, on Windows 10, half the time the accessibilty/on-screen keyboard button doesn't work half the time so I can't log in.

5: Not really a big issue, but still worth documenting I suppose. Not sure if this is windows 10's fault, but when I play overwatch, sometimes letters/characters will be missing throughout the whole game. For example, the letter g can be missing, so everywhere it will be missing ("genji" reads as "enji", "play game" will read as "play ame", ect.). This is more amusing than actually problematic though.

6: Not really a bug, but where is the option to turn off all of the annoying notifications? I don't want to have to tell windows it's okay for mumble to access hard drive files every time I run it, it's annoying.

Upgrading a Windows OS to another Windows OS basically never works out because there's always going to be weird driver/registry errors that occur.

Just clean install, the OS is fine when you do (just turn off p2p Windows Updates because it'll choke your net randomly unless your net is god tier), and you gotta get used to it anyways because Windows 10 is the last Windows OS.

I don't really have a copy of windows 10, so unless I pirate it I don't think I can perform a clean install. I don't really want to give microsoft any of my money.

I might do this if I can't fix the issues, but since they seem to be rolling hard with windows 10 I'll probably have to upgrade eventually. A good solution until I can clean install I guess

there are apps that can retrieve your windows 7 key and you can use that to activate 10.

When you upgrade to Windows 10 it takes your previous entitlement key and uses it to make a new entitlement that is also embedded into your motherboard. As long as you have the same motherboard when you install Windows 10 it should auto detect the key. Even if it doesn't you can use the Windows 7 key you already have assuming it's not OEM. Come the upcoming anniversary update you will also be able to just connect your W10 entitlement to your MS Account and it'll work the instant you log in with that so that your new W10 entitlement will work across motherboards.

e:also #9 if you're serious there is never going to be a Windows 11. Windows 10 is the last Windows OS, MS has said this repeatedly. It will be updated and stuck with until they rip as a company.

Do a clean install and use classic shell.

has anyone else had a positive experience with windows 10? the UI looks nice, the search integration works decently, and I've only encountered bugs with legacy software

i used it for a little bit and had no problems. i just hate it because of the constant unavoidable popup ads on win7/8.

My experience with Windows 10 is smooth so far as well. The reason you see more people complaining about the switch is because the people not having any problems don't talk about it.

yeah, its actually pretty good. everything goes smooth, and the ui is nice and intuitive. TH2 is coming soon so its going to be even better. but as i said, better do a clean install than upgrade.

Hey check out my guide here on how to do a proper clean install of windows 10, it goes step by step through the whole process.

The guide goes through how to get an image for windows 10 so that you can reinstall it properly. The image is clean directly from Microsoft.

I upgraded to 10 back when I built a new PC in February. I did a clean install, and while I haven't the majority of the issues that SGC has had, I will say that I feel like TF2 crashes more frequently than it did prior to the upgrade.

Might just be my imagination though.

and another thing about the update without consent is that ive actually talked to multiple people about windows 10 upgrading itself and it has never happened because people actually shutdown their computers. might help your electricity bill aswell, because so far ive seen this only happen to those who dont shut down so idk go figure i guess

put it this way, when microsoft pulls their head out of their ass and makes w10 usable for basic gaming stuff (windowed TF2 is still laggy and basically unfixable after win7) you can switch later on with no cost

because by upgrading now you're reserving a free copy of w10 (which you can't do any longer after mid-july iirc) and it still counts even after you roll back to w7

also, you don't need to check each update manually, you can just use something like this to block out any w10 related stuff for you

Sorry about your issues I've been using win10 just fine for about a few months now and I haven't had any issues so far. I agree with just installing it again though if not just revert back to 7.

If you don't want to have to uninstall all their crappy apps (which includes the xbox live one that forces on vsync for every game) every single time there's a relatively major windows update (has happened 3 times for me over the past ~10 months), revert back to windows 7.

If you like playing games in windowed fullscreen mode, revert back to windows 7, because aero is forced on with win 8 and higher, and that adds input lag for windowed fullscreen.

If you're concerned about your privacy and don't have at least the pro version, ideally enterprise, revert back to windows 7.

If you don't like having annoying updates scheduled at stupid times without there being any way to put them off more than a week, and don't have pro+, again, revert back to windows 7.

If none of these apply, then you probably will be fine using windows 10, at least after a clean install to fix your problems.

WDDM 2.0 (used in Windows 10) has fixed the issue that makes windowed games laggy. dwm now gives rendering priority to D3D applications. it works as well as it used to in 7 with dwm disabled.
