Thread hasn't been updated since August. I'm looking to pick up a monitor to replace my CRT pretty soon. Is the list still essentially the same or are there better options? I hesitated on the recent monitor deals and missed all of them :(

Is $250 considered a good price for the XL2411Z?

I've been told to wait out until the 22nd for clearance sales but I'm getting pretty antsy (and sick of CRTs raping my eyes at night). If it's not getting lower anytime soon then I might jump on it, but wanted to know what you guys think.

Sounds like I'll be getting it. Now my only other decision is deciding if I want to pay 10 dollars for the 1-day shipping. :P

EDIT: I did it. Can't wait. :V

It got a great review on prad.de. I don't think they tested the backlight strobing though

So I was looking to get a 2nd monitor for a while and stumbled upon a good deal I think. I can get this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0AJ2983258&cm_re=Samsung_S24D590PL-_-24-001-916-_-Product

From my local shop for $160. Would that be worth it? If someone used this monitor before, I would like some feedback

If your primary monitor is 120hz, then I'm not too much of a believer that a secondary monitor at 120hz is necessary. I'm sure some people might utilize it, but I don't think most would.

Though, $160 is a great price for that. None of the reviews really mention gaming, and the "game mode" seems to only change the colors and contrast. I thought it would deal with input lag or something. Seems good enough, though.

This may be the dumbest question ever but if I buy http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MCJQERU with the Asus VG248QE do I need to buy a cable to plug in my monitor?

Not sure there are any screens larger than 24" at that price but the asus version of the monitor is significantly cheaper and has the same panel and response time iirc.

This is the 27" version of the Asus VG248QE that so many people have. This is the cheapest you can get it according to PC Part Picker. It is a very solid monitor, only difference is larger screen size. :)

Edit: just realized it's out of stock there, so that means this is the best place to get it: http://www.macmall.com/p/7917765?dpno=9333919&source=zwb12166

The VG248QE and the VG278HE are not the same. Different panel size means different panel.

The VG248QE has:
- lower response time

The VG278HE has:
-far better colours (even bigger difference with lightboost)
-better contrast in lightboost
-better gamma
-better brightness uniformity
-better colour homogeneity

I could keep going but I think I've made my point.

G-Sync isn't all that useful with 144Hz monitors. If you're significantly below 144fps lowering the settings or getting a better GPU would help more and if you're just slightly below 144fps where it's not a problem of low fps but of screen tearing, which is exactly what G-Sync is intended for, you could just lower the refresh rate to 120Hz. I mean it does increase latency (Oh no! The worst case would be a whole 1.3ms if G-Sync added no latency at all! What a tragedy!) on the other hand it's free.

The Acer XB270HU recently came out (as far as I've seen). It has a 27 inch screen, 144 hz, 1440p resolution, and is IPS. Is this worth it for the money, because it seems too good to be true .

>(Oh no! The worst case would be a whole 1.3ms if G-Sync added no latency at all! What a tragedy!)

For reference this only 30% more than the difference from 500hz to 1000hz mouse input sampling. You won't notice. The smoothness is a bigger deal between 120hz to 144hz if you're after that.

-

Any 16:10 120hz+ monitors that I wouldn't have to buy secondhand? The two in the OP are "out of stock".

Eizo simply counts the backlight turning off as another frame. Et voilà 120Hz become 240Hz.
Welcome to marketing.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, it's lightboost.

Those monitors are interesting for a different reason though. They are VA panels, not TN.

That and the Eizo "lightboost" has less input lag than the "lightboost" you commonly see on ASUS and BenQ monitors.
http://gaming.eizo.com/wp-content/uploads/file/turbo240_whitepaper.pdf
that or I'm understanding this wrong and the reviews of it wrong.

Though Eizo apparently has really bad Quality Control apparently.

I'd guess it would have lower input lag compared to the 3D Vision hack, but versus the ToastyX Lightboost Utility that doesn't have that overhead I'm not so sure.

Is there any specific way I should go about buying a used 120Hz Monitor? I personally want a 120Hz monitor w/ less than 3 ms, but I can't justify spending over $200 Dollars for 60 extra frames.
