#1 TF2 Bot Theory in Off Topic

I have returned from years of slumber to propose a conspiracy theory:
The TF2 bots have been funded by Blizzard as Overwatch numbers have started to dwindle, so TF2 players will be forced to play Overwatch to have a real match.
That is all.

#45 Get Your Wallets Ready.... in Other Games

Payday 2 is a really fun game. The normal edition is 50% off (Now $4.99, before $9.99) and the ultimate edition with all DLC unlocks is 80% off (Now $15.14, before $80.33).

You're basically a bunch of robbers and have two basic ways of playing, stealth and loud.
In stealth, you have to go around and interact with objects without being caught by the guards (DLC is kinda useless here)
In loud, you just shoot up everything while completing objectives (DLC really helps because the weapons are way stronger)

Also, Valve complete pack is always a steal. Counterstrike, Half-Life, Portal, etc.

#42 show how much money you've spent on steam? in Off Topic

Spending like $140 on Wizard101 made me reluctant to spend any money on games. (Fuck you Wizard101)
Truthfully though, buying games on Steam isn't nearly as bad as wasting your money on shit pay to win games.

#1 Unfinished HUD idea in Customization

Alright boys.

1 year ago I started to make this HUD and I planned to work on it gradually and release it. I soon realized that I had absolutely no time because of the classes and out of school activities I was doing, so I ended up just stopping 1 month in. By now there are a lot of really good looking HUDs out there, so I'm sure that everybody is able to find something they like. At the same time though, I feel like when looking through all of the huds.tf huds, my HUD was still pretty unique. So in case anybody likes the HUD, I'm just going to leave the files here.

Here are the few basic rules I was trying to go by when making the HUD:
1. Team colors when possible
2. Standard TF2 Red/Blu colors (I use vibranceGUI so it turns already vibrant red/blues into retina torchers)
3. HUD elements at the center of the screen, having the top of the screen as clear as possible
4. Good balance between small and legible

I PM'd JarateKing about the health cross and he really helped me figure it out, s/o to him.

JarateKingIt works pretty differently from standard healthcrosses. The opposite in some ways, actually.

Make an imagepanel in the bg that'll act as the healthcross itself. Then move the PlayerStatusHealthBonusImage to be just above the healthcross, and change HealthBonusPosAdj to be equal to the healthcross image's height. Then make HealthDeathWarning equal 0.99999. If the hud animations doesn't make PlayerStatusHealthBonusImage appear when at low health, it should.

What it's actually doing is immediately appearing when you take any amount of damage, and resizing to cover parts of the healthcross image. At max health it won't be visible at all, at half health it'll be half its max size and cover half the healthcross, and at 1 health it'll cover almost all of it. That's fundamentally what's going on, and it could be adjusted to fill from another direction if you wanted.

This also means that you need to take care that things work right. PlayerStatusHealthBonusImage will resize in all directions, so you need to either keep it enclosed within HudPlayerHealth's bounds, or use refract materials to mask parts of it. Refracts will also be needed if you want to make the healthcross in any shape other than a square, and you'd probably need them to go behind the health numbers if it's next to it. And like in magnum hud, you can make the "bg" of the healthcross transparent by making PlayerStatusHealthBonusImage a refract, but at the same time it can be just a regular material and have the bg be opaque.

It's a lot to take in, I know, and magnum hud is pretty busy with its health too. Mannterface does basically the same thing with the spec hud horizontal healthbars (along with a few other huds, but Mannterface was the first to apply it to the spec hud), if you want another example.

I was wondering how you were able to create a custom-colored health bar in Magnum HUD. Before that, I have never seen any color besides the standard off-white in the default HUD.

And yeah, that's about it.

and I thought TF2 was for sweaty neckbeards

I want this thread to never die.

Edit: If you are looking for shoes, I'd recommend checking out Saucony Bullets. I don't usually see Saucony runners around too much, but I think they look pretty nice. They also fit really slim around your foot (order a 1/2 size up if buying online), and make your calves and legs look proportionally larger.

#4507 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

How do I change the color of the health bar/cross? NOT the background, the actual cross in the foreground that changes with your health and is generally off-white.

#7 Desk recommendations in Off Topic

if you buy from ikea just know that the tabletops are made out of particle board (it's not actually wood).

I would personally go the goodwill route with $60, it's a much better deal and you can get actual glass or hardwood for cheap.

#4422 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

How do I get the Escape Plan marked for death image to show up? No matter what I do, it always seems to be hidden.
Also, how do I change the color of the actual health cross?

#11 Default HUD with all Minmode options removed? in Customization
WiethoofdMake sure after extracting the default hud files you also have an info.vdf in the root of your custom hud folder.

Thanks! That was the problem

This time I completely removed all lines with Minmode and got the same result as well.

#8 Default HUD with all Minmode options removed? in Customization
JarateKingIf you load any files with #base, you need to make sure they also have minmodeDisabled (or whatever you chose) instead of minmode. Not sure if that's your issue, but that's what it was when I ran into that problem.

If it turns out to not be that, you might need to post some snippets or a DL.

What is #base?

HypnotizeHave you changed the minmode values inside the hudlayout as well?

#4 Default HUD with all Minmode options removed? in Customization
JarateKingWhat I always do is open every file up in notepad++ (you can just drag the entire hud folder into the notepad++ window) and ctrl+h replace-all of "_minmode" to "_minmodeDisabled" or whatever else so that it gets ignored. It may not look the nicest but it works, even if a basic program to remove those lines would be the best way of doing it.

A download link would just get outdated next major update, it doesn't take long to do it yourself if you know how.

I changed every minmode to minmode disabled but it still goes to the default minmode settings when I switch to minmode. Am I doing something wrong?
