deetrHow do you know how hard it is to do? There are a lot of Australium weapons that do not have skins and therefore presumably don't have an inspect animation. It would be extremely difficult to just make a bunch of animations. What if the way that they check if a weapon can be inspected relies on the weapon being a stock weapon (in which case Australiums may not be caught by the check because they count as different weapons).

All I'm saying is sure it was probably possible to make Australium weapons be inspected, but you have no idea how easy or difficult it would have been to implement.

actually it's not hard to do as long as the weapon is one of the ones that also has a skinned variant. Australium weapons are literally just replacement textures that are part of the normal model. These new "skinned" weapons are also texture swaps, using the same model. The model already has the animations. All they need to do is set a number from 0 to 1 for most australium weapons in the schema.

All aussies are either skinnable or are held the exact same way as the other weapons, with the same animation. The only exceptions to this rule are melee weapons and the Force A Nature.

Black Box uses the standard RL hand animations and posing. Tomislav does too. Frontier Justice uses the standard Shotgun animations.

Very few weapons need new animations. Not only that, but again, thanks to the c_model system, it's literally just a schema flag.

And for reference, weapons that need new animations:
Golden Pan
Knife
Wrench
Eyelander
Axtinguisher
Force A Nature

if it's one time and it's a decent price then why the fuck not support it, they're adding fucking matchmaking. plus it'll help dispel cheaters.

Yes but in dota it takes fucking 500 years to get all the heroes and shit you want, in cs:go and tf2 you pretty much have everything you need and gunboats or kritzkrieg for example cost nothing

Has anyone else noticed this? There's a lot of new articles on the wiki revolving competitive play, including map call outs in badlands and such.

I know comp.tf had most of the callouts and what not covered, but this is on the official tf2 wiki.

Articles about competitive play existed on the TF2 wiki even before Valve's buyout. Check the edit history.

Also, the "official" part only means it's running on Valve's servers. It's almost entirely a community effort.

Now where's the damn explosive jump fix? I'm not playing without it.

Hopefully they limit offensive classes to 2 and defensive and support classes to 1. Even if 6's matchmaking games end up having weird class compositions out of the gate, as long as enough competitive players play, the higher ranks will probably gravitate towards the 6v6 meta that we're used to (assuming that the weapon rebalancing/lack of whitelist don't change the ideal team composition). Maybe the rebalances will lead to other team compositions that are also viable without replacing the cookie cutter line up which would be ideal.

This is so much more important than a whitelist. I hope the TF2 team will suppress their constant urge to let you Play Your Way™ and recognize that a single instance of certain classes is more than enough.

Here's a thought: assuming that the 9v9 format will be Highlander, it wouldn't be logical to allow for more than one medic in 6v6 - which probably will be emphasized heavier than 9v9, just by virtue of being the less needy format logistics wise - when Highlander allows for only one by design. This gives me hope that proper class limits will be implemented.

Have we figured out how frequently/in what way new contracts are awarded? The overload of information is a little bit much

EDIT: I'm told it's two per week.

Prediction time

Since this contracts thing is the current only way to get skins and we know it lasts 3 months, I imagine that at the end of the 3 months when there is no more contracts, so no new ways to get skins, matchmaking will be dropped and that will be the new way to get skins.

Makes sense, or maybe specific matchmaking contracts. like play a certain ammt of matches or win or cap points or something. Or maybe a new operation?

all the people who fuck around as 6 engies or melee heavys will stay in the tf2 equivalent of silver or nova, while the more experienced 6s players who play the standard classes would probably be higher ranked, so I'm guessing most people on tftv wouldnt have too much contact with the people who play their friendly classes and stuff after everybody gets placed

Pretty much. It's also the equivalent of CS:GO and dumb strats, like everyone buying negevs or dumb shit like that. It simply won't work against good players, and thus, is not the meta and just a gimmick.

if you don't understand what the tf2 team is trying to do by rebalancing a ton of weapons and implementing skins, i'm sorry

i do understand it actually, they're trying to milk as much as possible the pubbers of this game to make money, and please don't talk like the fact implementing skin is good for the game in anyway, they could've delayed the whole thing, put only the matchmaking and this weapons balancing thing and spare us this ton of useless shit they just added to the game

I like it. Adds a little bit more color to my sad dark website.

For real though. It's not a secret that they need to make money, but the main reason for switching to skins instead of more unlocks is actually good for us, cause they are aware that some of them are broken and want to move collecting [aspect of the game] into reskins.
