#293 Ban Pred and Degu v2 in Off Topic

In actual e-sports the main motivation behind self-policing is avoiding bad PR for the sponsors, so the human trash that had a heated gaming moment is coaxed to publish a boilerplate apology so that they may keep making money for the org. In this case you'll unfortunately have to rely on regular old human decency instead, which is not a powerful enough incentive for some it seems.

If you allow asswipes like this to be part of your community and do what they please in the name of propping up the numbers (or arguing some sort of ridiculous free speech defense, in which case see link above), your community deserves to die. Whether competitive TF2 blissfully fades into oblivion or has to be put down after contacting rabies is in your hands.

I've stopped following competitive TF2 after five years of obsessively doing so (which is why I'm late to this particular party), and I've read and heard some shit in that time. That said, it's never too late to improve. Online communities that champion anarchy and freedom from consequences never end up well.

#46 favorite racing games in Off Topic

Man, I just realized how many racing games I've played. My favorite overall would be Forza 4, which is a simcade, but aside from it I've only played arcade racers and I can't say that I can choose a favorite because they're all pretty good in that non-offensive kind of manner:

  • NFS:U and MW '05 (U2 was merely okay to me, MW got the open world right)
  • Burnout Revenge and Paradise (really want to play 3, from what I understand it's the holy grail of arcade racers)
  • F-Zero X (the soundtrack is god tier but the AI seems to be cheating)
  • Forza Horizon (anyone reach the final race? talk about cheating AI holy shit)
  • Nitronic Rush
  • Project Gotham Racing 3 (the soundtrack was so unhinged and great at the same time... J-pop and classical stations anyone?)
  • Trackmania (played a couple, they're mostly the same really)

I'm playing the original Wipeout right now and hating the power-up bollocks and collision physics. Shame, because the game looks fantastic for its time. I won't give up on the franchise just yet because 2097 is supposed to have fixed the physics, but this one still makes me rage pretty hard.

Also they gave out GRID a month or two back, and boy this game is hard. Worst part is, I can't tell where my own incompetence ends and AI rubber banding begins.

We made it bois! Media coverage!

This isn't clickbait on purpose, blame the title character limit. Just thought it's an interesting article blog thing, though this is written by one of that community's members anyway. We have a couple ex-Xbox (ex-box?) players here IIRC.

#43 pie_hero confirmed cheater in Off Topic

The reversal is this: instead of assessing their own skill as much higher than it is, they accuse others of being so skilled to the point where they couldn't possibly be that skilled without cheating. I call this a "bizarre reversal" because while this is mostly similar to DK - like you pointed out - the core of the situation is actually reversed.

#40 pie_hero confirmed cheater in Off Topic

These hackusators are suffering from something like a bizarre reversal of the Dunning-Kruger effect - they're unable to recognize their own incompetence and blame the relative competence of others on an external, ill-gotten factor (especially tasty when they're projecting, i.e. Max Box). Always amusing to see.

#15 Favourite The Prodigy song (-s)? in Music, Movies, TV
  • Rave era - Death of the Prodigy Dancers. Pretty much all of Experience is too cheesy for my liking, but this is a track that I actually enjoy, mostly because of the 303 parts.
  • From Music for the Jilted Generation - Voodoo People. That synth sure goes places. They finally (mostly) stopped pitching their vocal samples up at this point, which is a big plus for me.
  • From Fat of the Land - Firestarter. That song is so packed with detail, it's incredible (go watch the videos Alfie linked). The most intense Prodigy track I've ever heard for sure.

Overall, Music is my favorite album, but Firestarter is my favorite track. I only heard the title track from Invaders Must Die out of their post-90s material (Dookie Nukem Forever, anyone?) and it doesn't sound like my kind of thing.
