atmozigzterThen I don't understand the point of it. If you mean what I think you mean, you're basically playing Ammomod like Endif? What do you do if someone hits you the second you land? Wouldn't you spend the entire game going up and down and never firing at him?

Regardless, different arenas help with different areas of play, so playing them all the same seems silly and unproductive to me. Besides, gl with trying to rocket surf indoors with a low ceiling.
I'm not going to answer your question about Endif because it's been made clear that my view of MGE deviates from the predefined way you "should" play. But your phrasing is continually giving the impression that you think winning in MGE is important, which seems silly and unproductive to me.

I think improving is important.

Please explain to me how you improve by continually rocket surfing and never firing at the other guy. I'm genuinely curious.
I can't imagine it's to improve your rocket surfing abilities, because learning how to do that requires about as much time as learning how to do stair-stabs does.

Tbh, I'm not entirely sure if you're serious or just trolling me now.

frknNot_MatlockRocket surfing is the most annoying thing to fight against.

Oh, hey, I just landed a perfect rocket! All the time spent practicing my aim is finally paying off!
Wait, what's this? He just jumped. Now he's raining free damage on me while I'm completely defenseless.
Well, I guess that will teach me never to land all my shots. No point in actually aiming if I just get punished for it.

When I was a noob I would play against moonchild all the time. Even when I was really shitty I could get a decent number of kills on him if I surfed every rocket he fired. It's stupid how easy rocketsurfing makes MGE. Eventually I learned that surfing rockets is akin to bending over and hanging a sign around your ass that says "Insert various objects here. Penises preferred".
yes, viable tactic that you can use in real games to conserve ammo and take less damage is the same thing as liking dicks in your ass. your logic is impeccable with that one

MGE isn't a real game.

if you are trying to say that surfing is never useful in 6v6 then I don't know what to tell you

if the point of mge is to get better at 6v6 dm then surfing is one of the tools in your arsenal that should be practiced

MGE isn't 6s. Surfing isn't always ideal or possible to do in a 6s game. It's also fairly easy to learn to an acceptable level. Doing it makes you have to try less in MGE, and makes the other person have to try harder in MGE. Both of these are dumb because if you actually want to get better, surfing all the time will only teach you bad habits.

zigzterPlease explain to me how you improve by continually rocket surfing and never firing at the other guy. I'm genuinely curious.

You've already mentioned that there are other arenas that engender different styles of play and practise different elements of your game, so I don't see how this is a point of confusion.

Edit: I should probably mention at this point that I main Scout, whereas I believe June and Zigster are Pocket and Roamer respectively.

Guys it's not a matter of whether or not surfing or jumping or any of that shit is useful in 6s (obviously it is). Jumping in ammomod gives a definitive advantage because you get fucking launched and with that time you can spam like 4 splash rockets on someone while having only taken maybe 100 yourself. The only way you can equalize this is by hitting airshots (hence why tictac was so good because if you juggled him he spiral strafed down and was able to easily respond to the damage you got on him to begin with).

It's the same thing as complaining about people that jump on gpit b roof and just spam down on people fighting others in DM. It's an easy way to get a very impressive scoreboard but you're practicing something that is mostly irrelevant/incredibly easy to begin with. The issue with a lot of training mods is that the most effective means for doing really well are often contrary to the best method for actually practicing. Ammomod is unparalleled for ground game practice and 1v1 movement, but if someone is just going to cjump and force you to practice airshots then you aren't getting much practice out of it either.

As for surfing rockets around the arena, it's still frowned on since you're still jumping most likely, but no one is going to complain if you are getting popped up and air strafing because it's meaningful to practice what to do when you do get popped.

For the record, I'm talking only about ammomod. I don't fuck with MGE.

In all my experience in 6v6, surfing rockets as a pocket Soldier is one of the things I try to avoid the most. The last thing I want is to be thrown away from my Medic, and be unable to advance on the enemy team because I'm too busy trying to apply dumb MGE tactics to a real game.

Besides, the point of MGE isn't to use gay tactics to win, it's to practice aim and movement.

Strafing when you're popped up like that takes a bit more skill anyway, since you have less momentum because you didn't jump+crouch.

I used the Endif example because based on what you said that seems to be how you play Ammomod.

Yes you don't always want to do it in game (and therefore you shouldnt always do it in mge either). But I actually don't often see people who can surf well (should be close to as powerful as a rocket jump)

If you do it right you will control where you surf to so that you aren't abandoning your medic and are actually forcing the other team out with your 450hp

but obviously there are times when you absolutely do not want to surf a rocket, nobody is disputing that. and surfing falls under movement

But I now see how it is more powerful in ammomod than other arenas (unlimited ammo lols), so I can understand the complaints

If someone is jumping or trying to surf your rockets in mge, all you have to do is shoot in front of them, and they'll just get bounced up a very short distance from the ground. Learning to do both that and direct people is a really valuable skill set imo.

you can also just counter surf?!
