also just some bonus info, the main reason that were seeing so many more university closures compared to high school closures is the effects of very packed living. the news media has been talking about cruise ships being super easy places for the spread of viruses, well dorms are essentially the same if not worse. a large amount of people packed into a very small space, additionally sharing bathrooms and with below average hygiene practices. its pretty insane that theres universities in effected areas that ARENT closed considering how their specific risk is.

Mine just got closed for 2 weeks. Makes sense since we're a med school and all the corona patients get treated here, we also had 2 cases in staff members, unrelated to each other.

a big part is also packed lecture halls if you go to a very large school. couple that with the fact that universities are home to a lot of exchange students/faculty, parties/frats and shit are big in some schools as well as spring break being ongoing/just finished for a lot of schools u really get the perfect storm for spreading this shit.

Mine moved to online classes for the rest of this week, and we have spring break next week so we'll see what happens after then.

Here in California, there is talk of shutting down major sporting events and even public gatherings in my county at least... Hopefully, it'll be nothing because I work part-time at one of these aforementioned places. Not quite universities but if this goes into effect it'll affect more than universities...

edit: apparently they shut down Coachella, that's p big considering the number of people that have already made arrangements to come out.

College students who are in universities that kicked them out are sort of screwed, it was not only last minute but everyone's scrambling to get storage space and packing sometimes take a while. Also everyone's scrambling for flights or not sure what to do because the warning was last minute.

Michigan State closed this morning, all online classes until April 20th or until further notice. I actually go to a nearby community college but I expect they'll follow suit. My job at the MSU campus might also be suspended for the time being. While I don't depend on my paychecks, I know most of my coworkers do. This sucks.

University of Pittsburgh extended spring break for 1 week, after that classes will be online-only and we have been recommended to not come back to campus. won't stop me from coming back though, I'm not about to stay at home for 5 months

edit: nvm my school updated its announcement to say only those that don't have another home can come back :(

Im at Oakland University and our classes will be online for the rest of the semester, which ends April 25th. Most larger school in MI are taking similar actions
