pugs without fatkids often suck because 1-2 people aren't up to par with the rest of the pug

also you couldn't choose what class a player was going to play... everyone's better at some classes and worse at other classes

and there was hardly any faceit dev support to fix the existing problems with the platform ... and it seemed unlikely that any support was coming

if it was our best form of easy to access competitive tf2 it wouldn't have died
there are a lot of reasons it was shit but my number 1 reason is that nobody knew what class everyone was playing. not only was it annoying to have to play a class you didn't want to play but the games were often one-sided because it is impossible to balance games when you don't know who's playing what class. this alone shows how poorly thought out the whole operation was and how it was doomed from the get-go.

the only pug system that has worked long-term is the #tf2.pug.na captain formula and pugchamp is as a good as it is going to get unless someone makes an elo bot that picks teams so they get going fast -- it would be even better if captains/meds couldn't bait pugs starting by being locked in for like 10 minutes and there was increased incentive for people to play med. it would be god tier if they brought back ELO and introduced seasons/ranks. its a shame how pug champ is receiving a whopping $0 on patreon.

Well let's think…
>it’s biggest proponent b4nny never mentions it anymore other than occasionally queuing once a week
>not allowing captains to mandate who plays what class
>prizes no longer exist
>invite players quit playing it almost immediately after it started
>invite players also released that if they now play pugchamp they get b4nny free pugs
>no social media presence whatsoever
>constant ddosing of streamers when it was first launched
>no fat kids (which I personally don’t believe is a bad thing but for some people it’s a deal breaker)
>lack of admin enforcement on rule breakers
>not enough people ever played it for the division system to effectively work
I think faceit probably still could be saved if the people who run it decided suddenly to give half a shit but I don’t think that will ever happe. The only way pugchamp and tf2center are getting dethroned is if rgl or etf2l makes their own pug service.

For me it was just the league business.

I was put into the open league from the start and almost immediately put in a request for advanced division. By this point I had two seasons of high (back when there was no D1/D2) and came 5th at i61 with no input, and merced for TBC a few times.
I believe my first request got denied and I had to message an admin and re-apply. By this point I was something like 11 games into open with 455dpm average a game and still wasnt bumped.

By the time I was bumped I got bored of the effort where I could just simply pug somewhere else.

Understandably, I was just impatient and they want good divisions set up and verifying takes time but this is what did it for me

Couldn't pick classes. The class pref system took a while and when it arrived it didn't do anything at first. Probably discouraged a lot of players

Couldn't get subs. Deal breaker, though I understand why faceit didn't want such a feature with a ladder system and money involved.

Everything else was fine tbh. I enjoyed it for the first week or so, but once the playerbase started dropping you'd often be playing with/against the same players. And it just so happened that I really did not enjoy playing with some of those players. I was already mixing daily with the Dutch circlejerk and I'd occasionally get picked on pugchamp (which generally had more keen and surprisingly more enjoyable people playing). So I stopped queueing faceit

if you mean why did it literally stop working then its because twiikuu warned them he was killing his server 6 months ago and they likely didnt back any of it up or make arrangements in time

i stopped adding up because the captain system made like 40 pugs in a row really bad

level 10 captain, level 4 captain. one other high-im/invite player added, not captaining, gets picked first by level 10 captain, pug over.

-gives captain to the world of tanks player because he has faceit premium or whatever, he picks randomly and gets 5-0'd in 3 seconds
-afk captain makes randomly selected team instead of timing out draft
-last player into server stuck playing medic 90% of them time and they throw because they don't want to

Just a idea for pug system i thought of. Maybe when each person adds up to the pug it adds their name automatically to the medic list( i know there is always a shortage of medics or its always the same medics). Then when the pug is about to start two medics are randomly picked from the list of medics(all 12 people) just like a "last to spec" kind of works when everyone goes to spec at the same time.

Honestly if they would just implement a captain system I think it would be a massive good step in the right direction.

"wow I didnt sign up for medic, im not playing, cya in 30 minutes" is what would happen from most players

Lmao i dont everyone thinks like that, i think the amount of pugs that would start would be a overall positive. You will come across people like that, but give them a day cool down or something. And people that consistently play over time the top 10 medics every month get some reward. Just a thought obviously what i say doeant mean anything.

The whole pick system was a clusterfuck. If you were low advanced you literally couldn't play without being in a pug above your skill level, you'd get pushed towards med because you're the worst player in the pug and if you don't someone better has to, you couldn't play down a div (at the time) to offclass or just not sweat, you couldn't set a class so you better pray you connect fast enough to grab the only class you can play at that level, and better players still resent you for bringing down the pug. Add in the other shit like the constant ddos, not having chicago servers at the start, discord not working right a lot, random captains, not having a fucking sub system, retards fulltime offclassing in lower divs, $5 name changes, anyone who didn't get moved up having to grind their way out of beginner, and people just generally being upset and bringing down the quality of the pug. I played like 40 pugs on faceit and I dont remember any of them being fun.

I seem to remember us telling the devs that we'd like it better with class picking and the ability to sub so pugs don't just McFucking die if someone quits or doesn't show, and then it never getting changed.
