60 or 120 Hz monitor, IPS, anything special?

Yes, well get to that later.
Only the CPU and not so much die but at some point the overclock will become unstable again and you'll have to either lower the clockrate or increase the voltage (further speeding up the degradation). Then again CPUs are expected to last over 10 years on stock voltage so even if you halve that (and then you still have the option of running at a lower clockrate) you'll be looking for an excuse to upgrade way before the CPU becomes a problem.

Yes, quiet is nice.
That pretty much confirms you'd be fine with 4 cores.

Preferably 120hz, but I found a monitor thats 144hz and costs €200.(MSI Optix MAG241C). I'm not really sure if it's any good for my build (if I don't get 144fps I mean), then I'd rather get a 120hz screen anyway (especially if it leaves more budget for importanter stuff).

Ok then.
120/144 are the same panels so I'm just writing 120 Hz because 144 is bullshit for various reasons but let's not go into that.
Do you want anything special like G-Sync/FreeSync, Lightboost/ULMB/Strobing or anything else? And if you don't know what those are google it, you should know what your options are.

Resolution I'm assuming 1080p, but how many fps on what settings are you going for for in Overwatch, PUBG, Fallout 4 and other games? This is about the CPU/GPU balance, where the spend how much money.

I actually had to google all those terms :(

I really don't think I need any of those. ULMB seems really nice if it doesn't take up too much budget I could use for other components. Since I've always gamed on a very old laptop I feel like it's kind of hard to say though.

For PUBG and Fallout 4 and other non-FPS games I'd just like consistent 60 fps on high settings, for overwatch 120 seems nice on medium settings?

I used DE because pcp NL sucks even more.
I'd use tweakers.net for the final partlist.

Strobing doesn't cost much so that's not a problem.

That build is only good if you overclock though, otherwise a lot of money is wasted on enabling you to overclock.

HDD could be added with the final, slightly lower prices, capacity depends on how much you need.
1060 6GB might also be doable, not much of a difference though but if it's within budget you could do it.
PSU, RAM, mobo, PSU, potentially cooler can all be swapped for equivalent parts, depending on what's cheapest wherever you want to buy it.
Case is mostly preference so pick whatever you like.

Ok, look for a case that you like (if it's not a good one I can still look for one that looks similar), decide how much storage capacity you'll need and I'll make the final partlist tomorrow.

The current seems fine, Cooler Master - MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case. I watched a youtube review on it and the guy said I might want to buy some extra fans if I have a toasty machine, can I assume I will need that after overclocking?

As for storage, I think 500GB is fine (no HDD needed). The gtx1060 6gb is €60 more expensive, is that the best upgrade I could make within ~€100 going over budget?

Yeah, a second fan would be the bare minimum. The case was mostly a placeholder with an approximately realistic price.

Shouldn't be that much more expensive.

Look for cheaper RAM as well if you know what to look for.
If you tell me which shops you'll be using I can do it for you, especially mobo and PSU are a bit more complicated.

Oh the GTX1060 6gb only 20 euros more there, will it still fit that same case?

As for shops Paradigit is what pc part picker always sets it to. Other than that the German Alternate and German Amazon are easy alternatives I guess. Not really sure if there's any well known store in the Netherlands that sells pc parts.

It should, there's different 1060s and different cases so we can definitely make that happen.

Yeah, pcp nl simply doesn't know a whole lot of shops.
If you're fine even with ordering from german shops I can definitely come up with something better than the first list tomorrow.

I said tomorow at 0:59 so technically I'm a day early. Underpromise and overdeliver.

First of a few things that are basically fixed:
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1051069/intel-core-i3-8350k-boxed.html
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/430394/thermalright-macho-rev-punt-b.html including shipping the H7 costs ~44€ instead of the 30-35€ it should cost and it's a bit on the low end of what you'd want for a good overclock so might as well take the ugprade.
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1131813/samsung-860-evo-500gb.html
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1117319/seasonic-focus-gold-450w.html same here, hard to find anything decent that's cheaper so might as well get something much better for the same price
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1122045/benq-zowie-xl2411p-(met-color-vibrance)-zwart.html

I haven't looked for a case yet and it depends a bit on how the variable parts of this add up. The Q300L is still a valid choice.
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1150039/cooler-master-masterbox-q300l.html

Now for the mobo:
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1255169/gigabyte-z390-m-gaming.html works but if you go for a full ATX case and don't mind the worse onboard sound (onboard sound is always terrible and should never be used) you can get pretty much the same thing for 20€ less
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1252061/gigabyte-z390-ud.html

RAM:
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/466656/g-punt-skill-ripjaws-v-f4-3200c16d-16gvkb.html
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1073899/team-group-vulcan-tlred416g3000hc16cdc01.html
Basically a way to save 30€ to make the budget work out if it has to at almost no performance difference.

GPU:
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/1156001/sapphire-nitro+-radeon-rx-580-4gd5-(11265-31).html
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/567281/zotac-geforce-gtx-1060-amp!-edition-6gb.html
A bit faster, a bit quieter, maybe overclocks a little bit better, probably worth the 20€ more if you don't mind the whole registering and logging in to get a driver and nVidia being nVidia in general.

I haven't asked when you'll actually build it, so the prices might change a bit until then, that's why I tried to stay within those 1100€. RAM can obviously be changed to whatever is cheapest with the same specs, with the GPUs you have to ignore mini-iTX/small form factor versions and generally 1 fan designs, but other than that it should stay the same.

You can now decide on the full ATX vs micro-ATX thing, whether or not to take advantage of the cheaper full ATX mobo. A larger case might cost 20€ more so all you'd end up with is a larger case but it could be cheaper and maybe there's a full ATX case you like more (or that comes with more fans).

Hello hello epic gamers of my favourite epic gaming forum!!
I'm quite fed up with my currently ancient PC and I've got some money I want to get rid of to alleviate this upsetting situation. I've been thinking for a while and I'm ready to shell out about $2500 // €2200 in the next week or two for a completely new PC locally in hungarian prices (so about 10% of my money is worthless haha epic country). My current BEAST of a machine is a sandy i3 with a 750Ti so I'm not really planning on keeping anything, and since the new shiny GPUs don't fit my case it's out too. I've got an XL2411z 1080p 144hz BenQ and I'm not planning on going higher in resolution or refresh rate as I don't much care about 4k and the hertz is more than enough, although I might get another 1080p 60hz second monitor down the line but that's not in the budget for this, just want it to be able to still perform with that. (I do have a smaller second screen now too but as it only has VGA it's probably out with the newer cards (not really a problem, it's smaller than my main screen anyway which bugs me relentlessly)). Don't plan on using two GPUs, if I need a boost I'll just upgrade. I'd also like to retain the ability to overclock just in case, although I probably won't for a while. Don't care about looks and them RGBs. I'd also like to maybe try VR in the future but that might be way further down the line so if it requires more power and upgrades I'm not too bothered about it.

My goals with this is to be able to play modern FPS games in at least 144fps but preferably more about ~250, hopefully also while streaming although I know this might only be viable with a dedicated streaming PC but if possible I'd still like it if it worked even if its only 720p 60fps.

R6Siege, PUBG, Quake champions, Squad would be the most important/demanding but I'd like to potentially try some more unstable early access stuff like hunt showdown and some newer and prettier games like Project Cars, Forza, AC:Odyssey, the tomb raiderses and hopefully the upcoming new Doom/Metro... But while I know futureproofing is really not viable I never had a good PC before and I just want to experience that feeling of playing a new game without compromises for once at least.

I would also like to play these and more on not just the absolute minimum settings for a change even though I care more about performance than graphics in most games, I do still enjoy some singleplayer games that look pretty.
(And of course tf2/csgo but with the above criteria I think they'll run just fine. Don't care about graphics for those.)

Anyway, to recap after all that text:
About $2300 // €2000 in real country prices budget
No peripherals only PC, but all of PC
1080p 144hertz, would like FPS that can use it too
PUBG, R6, QC for absolute performance but also PCars, Forza, AC:O and new games at least moderately pretty
Hopefully streaming and Potentially overclocking

I've been scouring the internets for a while and in my great country I've come up with the following that about pushes my budget in my local stores:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor (€529.90 @ Caseking)

Some explanation / extra text:

 • I've been between the 9700k and 9900k but maybe they are both overkill? Unsure if I want an AMD or where I'd put the extra dollars to, but I've seen the 9900 perform much better on streaming benchmarks
 • mATX board because it's cheaper and I don't need the extras the bigger versions of this provide with just one GPU, I think?
 • I want to get 4 sticks of 4gb RAM but for some reason the HX432C16PB3K4/16 is not on pcpartpicker. I've been reading around and I don't want to 'expand' my RAM in the future, at least not the same ones and while the benefits of this is might be miniscule they are still benefits
 • 1080Ti can't be found here anymore it seems and I've been watching some benchmarks and the 2070 seems to be the next best thing? Unless it's overkill and I can put some money somewhere else for better balance?
 • I know this is just a mATX build but I really like this case and I'd like to keep it for further upgrading in the future and to populate it with very pretty white only parts and some lights. I know I said I don't care about looks but I love white and I can dream... Anyway if the budget requires it this is probably the first thing I'd be willing to swap.
 • I've heard this is a good PSU but I personally know nothing about PSU manufacturers so I just trusted my friend on this

Of course, I'm here for advice first and foremost so none of those are remotely set in stone, it's just what I came up with before getting stuck. I'd greatly appreciate any help or suggestions with this even if only for validation! It's probably my first actual PC build and my single most expensive purchase so far and I don't wanna do anything too dumb. I'll be pulling the trigger on the 10th / 11th so I hope AMD won't hike my prices too much. Sorry for the megatext and thanks a bunches in advance!!

Some explanation / extra text:

I've been between the 9700k and 9900k but maybe they are both overkill? Unsure if I want an AMD or where I'd put the extra dollars to, but I've seen the 9900 perform much better on streaming benchmarks

mATX board because it's cheaper and I don't need the extras the bigger versions of this provide with just one GPU, I think?

I want to get 4 sticks of 4gb RAM but for some reason the HX432C16PB3K4/16 is not on pcpartpicker. I've been reading around and I don't want to 'expand' my RAM in the future, at least not the same ones and while the benefits of this is might be miniscule they are still benefits

1080Ti can't be found here anymore it seems and I've been watching some benchmarks and the 2070 seems to be the next best thing? Unless it's overkill and I can put some money somewhere else for better balance?

I know this is just a mATX build but I really like this case and I'd like to keep it for further upgrading in the future and to populate it with very pretty white only parts and some lights. I know I said I don't care about looks but I love white and I can dream... Anyway if the budget requires it this is probably the first thing I'd be willing to swap.

I've heard this is a good PSU but I personally know nothing about PSU manufacturers so I just trusted my friend on this
Of course, I'm here for advice first and foremost so none of those are remotely set in stone, it's just what I came up with before getting stuck.

Yes, probably both overkill but the 9700K is a fairly sane choice. AMD's next generation is still a few months away and when not streaming the 9x00K simply win based on the higher clockrate.
There shouldn't be too much of a difference between the two, what benchmarks did you look at?

Yes, µATX is fine. You could get a µATX case as well. Not something tiny where building is a pain, just a bit more compact and cheaper.

What would be the benefit of 4x4GB?

Yes, the 1080 Ti is EOL and the 2070 is about as fast and about the same price (which is kind of sad for a new generation of GPUs, to only keep the price/performance ratio). It doesn't have to be the most expensive 2070 though, an extra 100-150€ don't get you that much. At some point it makes more sense to simply buy the cheapest 2080 instead, which would easily be faster. I'd recommend sticking with a more reasonably priced 2070 though.

It might be possible to find a similar µATX case. But we'll leave that for last.

The PSU isn't bad but there's far better options at that price.

Two more things: The cooler isn't that great, only just about keeps up with coolers half the price.
The HDD doesn't make sense, it's massively overpriced. Even if you want a 7200 rpm there's far cheaper options.

CPU
I see, yes the i7 seemed to do really good too, and in pure gaming benchmarks even outdo the i9 by a frame or two. I looked at the following links where the performance while streaming seemed to be noticeable, but I've researched a bit more and found that the RTX cards have quite a good HW encoding too so I'm unsure if these benchmarks should worry me:
[link] [link]

Motherboard
I was wondering last night if it's worth it to pump a bit more budget into the motherboard for maybe an Aorus elite or pro, they don't seem to be too much more and seem to have a good reputation, even if they are full size boards.

RAM
I've read on some places that having four single rank sticks might be better and that smaller memory sticks are more stable, but the 2 and 4 stick packages cost the same so I was looking for a difference between the two. I'll admit I don't really fully grasp it yet but it seemed to me that this might be a better option?

GPU
Seems reasonable. I might do a bit of research for the cheaper 2080s if I manage to save up enough on the others, if it's worth it.

Case
I just like this case and I don't mind the space, just think its pretty and I can potentially use it for a full ATX build in the future.

PSU
I just saw 650W recommended for this power range and I'd rather be on the safe side for a PSU, but those reviews do seem good. Is it a big deal if I ever end up pushing a 550W closer to its limits?

Cooler
What about the dark rock pro 4 or even 3? The 3 might be harder to find but the 4 seems to be on par with the Noctua and quite a bit cheaper here.

HDD
I've heard good things about WD, less so of Toshiba... I'd like to keep the HDD in the future for further computers too, if I can. The only reason I need one now is because my current one is about 400gb and I'll be giving away the whole computer as is. But I do agree that it is quite expensive compared to this...

AMD
Well they'll be having their big keynote this week, I don't know how computer prices work but if they fail to perform I can't see why wouldn't the competition take advantage... Although that doesn't seem likely at this point.

CPU:
If you use hardware encoding even the 9700K would be a waste of money, the 9600K would be more than enough.
With software encoding the 9900K isn't that much better. The problem is either both get more than 144 fps or neither, it's usually not that close. If you're willing to drop the settings while streaming or don't need 144 fps in slower games or just don't stream at 1080p, 60fps, 6000 bitrate (not sure how good your connection and twitch would even be at maintaining that) then the problem dissappears for both.
Overclocking also factors into this. Even the 9900K itself overclocks higher with Hyperthreading disabled, so the overclocked you'd expect the 9700K or 9900K with HTT off (some people do that) to always win in games and close the gap when streaming.

Mobo:
It's perfectly adequate if you're not doing anything crazy.
https://www.overclock.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=231464
>200W is difficult to cool and you're not using this for benchmarks, so there's no point in not using an AVX offset.
With the 9700K it's even less of a concern.

RAM:
Ranks don't factor into this.
Also more sticks are generally less stable.

GPU:
You're already into overkill territory and the higher up you go the worse the price to performance ratio gets. Stick with a reasonably priced 2070, unless you absolutely need the extra power. In those cases you go straight for the cheapest 2080, which is significantly faster instead of the most souped up 2070 that gets you 3% more fps for 50€.

Case:
Ok then.

PSU:
Overcurrent protection usually kicks in 100W above the rated wattage or even later.
Techpowerup actually tests at 110% and guess what happens?
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/SuperNOVA_G2_750/5.html
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/SuperNOVA_G2_750/9.html
Absolutely nothing.
They are rated to run continuously at 100% for 10 years so they could take 120% easily. The only thing stopping you from doing that is OCP kicking in as a way to tell you "if you're running this far over the rated wattage you've either miscalculated massively or something has shorted out so let's not find which one it is by waiting to see if the PC catches fire".

Cooler:
Cheaper yes, probably good enough for most things and certainly better than the first cooler you chose, but not on par with the D15.
If you draw more power the gap becomes wider.
https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/8842/quiet-dark-rock-pro-4-cpu-cooler-review/index6.html
The D15 is not that impressive on most CPUs because it's simply overkill. For 100W a single fan single tower cooler can get you the same temps at lower noise levels if you're using fan control instead of 100% 24/7. Above 150W is where the fun begins.

http://www.coolingtechnique.com/img/rece/dissipatori/cryorig/r1-universal/stock_load.png

This shows it best. Above 150W the jumps get bigger, like they should, except for the D15. That curve somehow flattens out. At 100-150W it's somewhere in the middle of the pack between all the All-in-one watercoolers (which are way louder) and a maybe a bit below most other big air coolers, but beyond that it's suddenly 2-4°C below even the 240mm Aios and only the 280 and 360mm can compete (at 20dB more).

Maybe take a look at Le Grand Macho RT. Either way a really good single tower or decent dual tower (both ~60€) should be enough if you don't do anything crazy and only end up pushing 200W through the CPU. If you are concerned about the mobo and get the 9900K and really push it and draw >250W then something like the NH-D15 is worth the money. I put it in as the most expensive cooler that would still make sense to make the budget planning easier, should you want to upgrade anything else with the "saved" money (e..g 2070->2080 like you mentioned).

HDD:
WDs tech is so good they abandoned it completely and are now using Hitachi's tech almost exclusively. Guess why you didn't hear about Toshiba? Guess who didn't even make HDDs for years and got some of Hitachi's fabs for regulatory reasons? Yep, it's Toshiba. In other words the old WD drives are worse and the new WD drives are the same.
Either way there's also some Seagate and HGST (Hitachi brand post WD takeover) options (including prosumer and actual enterprise level drives) way below the price of the WD Black. Paying a premium for "high performance consumer HDD" doesn't make sense when any SSD is going to be much faster anyway.

AMD:
The 9900K and 9700K are already selling way above MSRP and they only compete against existing CPUs. They are not artificially underpriced because everyone expects some mythical CPU to be way better next year. There's always a better CPU next year.
The only thing that could've happend would be AMD launching better CPUs and driving the prices down, but not up.

The D15 is not that impressive on most CPUs because it's simply overkill. For 100W a single fan single tower cooler can get you the same temps at lower noise levels if you're using fan control instead of 100% 24/7. Above 150W is where the fun begins.

I see! You've given me a lot to further learn about so I'm thankful, I'll be sticking with the 9700k then but if I save enough I might still get a Ventus 2080, they seem to be priced alright but I'll bee looking at a few more benchmarks and do some math before I splurge.

I never realized how much this cooler can do but I am impressed, hopefully I can use it for a nice long time if I can take advantage of the free mounting kit upgrade thing. Or even if I can't.

Not much else I can think of right now, you've convinced me to try the Toshiba and the PSU. Thanks a lot for your help and education!

Glad I could help.

I almost forgot to check but the Z390 M Gaming is compatible with the NH-D15, it shouldn't block the top PCIe slot. https://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d15.html?comp=1
However that doesn't include backplates so try to avoid GPUs with ridiculously thick ornamental backplates and/or double check just to be sure it'll fit if it got a backplate at all.

Kind of unrelated but what's causing my game to not be able to hold a stable 144fps? I'm running a i7 3770 and a 1050ti with minimum settings and lower than 1080p res.

What game? Also what's "lower than 1080p res"? 1079p? 900p? 720p? 480p?

Hey Setsul, anything outta CES that caught your eye?

This looks ok for a cheap LAN PC with a Ryzen 2400G

No, the only things that matter so far is nVidia support FreeSync/Adaptive Sync now, but still refuses to admit it and Zen2 is looking gooooood.

I don't think stable fps have ever been a thing in TF2.
That's more of a config than a build question.

Hey, Setsul.

My motherboard died, so i want to buy new one.
For now i got i5 4430 and 2 sticks of ddr3 4gb each. Other parts almost new, doesn't need upgrade.

What do you recomend to buy? Maybe I should buy new CPU + MoBo or new CPU + MoBo + RAM?

i'd prefer have budget as low as possible, but if you recomend to buy non-1150 socket MoBo and CPU, i have up to ~350$.

also you shouldn't look for super precise prices on Newegg or other US shops, i will try to buy parts in Russia anyway.

Any recent CPU would require DDR4 so CPU + mobo + RAM is the only option.

Honestly if you don't need a CPU upgrade just buy a used LGA1150 mobo.

If you want to upgrade then we need to figure out how much of an upgrade you need and I'll need to look at Russian prices. There's a massive difference between mobo + RAM costing 150$ and having enough money left for a 200$ CPU and everything being 20-30% more expensive and only being able to buy a 100$ CPU.

What is the cheapest possible 144hz@1080p build for TF2? Is it worth it compared to 60hz?
