If it's a budget build you should probably tell us the budget.

At the very least you can get a 2200G for the higher clockrate, dual channel RAM, a cheaper PSU (e.g. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FQ648d/corsair-power-supply-cp9020101na ) and maybe both a better SSD and a better monitor.

#3120
Reassembling is the hardware equivalent of "have you tried turning it off and on again". 60% of the time it works every time. So if you try it twice it's 120% guaranteed to work.

#3122
240 fps in general or just TF2?

It should work but TF2 doesn't benefit from more than 4 cores so you could get an i3-8350K instead to save money or 8600K/9600K for the higher stock clockrates or even 8086K/9700K (nominally not much more expensive than the 8700K, but reality is different).

Trying to stay below 600 bucks, but I'll go higher if I really need to.
(Also using the 2200g with my current motherboard might have issues according to pcpartpicker, looking online this seems to be right)

edit: 2200g should be good with what I have, false alarm

No, pcp is right, but I'd recommend get a mobo with 4 RAM slots anyway so while we fix that we can spend another 10$ to get a B450 mobo instead and save you the hassle of the BIOS update if you want. If you want to save the 10$ there's always hoping that the mobo comes with a reasonable recent BIOS (it's been 6 months since the 2200G's release after all), getting the mobo from a retailer who will update it for you (if you can get it for the same price there) or this https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100 .

By the way the RAM didn't have a price last time I checked so you're actually over 600$ already, which makes it a bit more difficult, unless you weren't counting the monitor.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TxZ4jy
Didn't touch the monitor, other than that what I said and cheaper and faster HDD and GPU and a case that comes with 2 fans (just one option, there's others) instead of buying 2 extra.

Hi !
I've been planning on building my first gaming rig since a while now considering being a laptop warrior forever doesn't sound too great.
Here's what I've come up with so far :
https://www.materiel.net/configurateur-pc-sur-mesure/fdb1c451d1e245f8976ab9af07994105/
(sorry for not using pcpartpicker hope this is understandable anyway)
I would use this PC mostly for TF2 along with some (sometimes heavy) calculation (which is why I picked a 6-core CPU) but also for some more demanding games like Subnautica, Witcher III, Arkham Knight and such and would like to make sure I can get around 200 fps in TF2, and around 100 at least in all those games so that I can make good use of my (soon to be) 144Hz monitor. Hope this isn't too optimistic of a compromise with a 1060.
Can wait til Christmas or new year if GPU prices are to go down by then (hoping for 1070 Ti to go down in price since 2070 is about the same price rn and is said to have better performance in most recent games), but most likely won't go beyond 1200 euros for the PC itself. Would love to know whether the parts I've chosen would be just as fit if I were to replace the 1060 with a 1070 Ti btw
Thanks in advance !

Edit : there seems to be an issue with RAM on the website, I had picked some 2x8Go Corsair Vengeance I believe, can't remember what frequency tho (perhaps you could give me some advice on what frequency to pick as well ? :))

More cores with lower clockrate is a bad trade for games, especially TF2.
Pay those extra 5€ for the CXM450, it's a different and much better PSU.

2070 ~ 1080 and the prices have been staying similar for a while now. I don't see any reason why that would change.

Does this one sound better (I've switched to the CXM450) ? Do I need to add a cooler for the CPU or a fan for the case ?
https://www.materiel.net/configurateur-pc-sur-mesure/1a33223c63dd2ca3dfe681c1cb0988de/
Was wondering if these specs would be able to handle a 1070 Ti, since I could afford it considering I spared almost 200 euros just from changing from an i5 8400 to an i3 8350K

Yes, for that CPU you'll need a cooler.
A case that simply comes with 2 fans would be nice.

Honestly you should check a few things first.

What are the "(sometimes heavy) calculation" you'll run and does it even benefit from more cores?
What clockrate do you actually need to get 200 fps in TF2 in the gamemode you want, on the settings and resolution you want to run? Then you'll know if you'd have to overclock to reach that or not.
What GPU do you actually need to get 100+ fps in all those games on the settings and resolution you want to run?

Once you figure that out you'll know if you can afford both or if you'll have to choose or lower the settings.

Basically, the calculation is really secondary compared to games and is mostly Python and C++ related programs so I might have overestimated how heavy it is, 4 cores should be fine as long as i don't do too many other things while those are running.
As far as TF2 goes, goal would be at least 200 fps in 6s with a 1920x1080 resolution on fairly high graphics and around 120 in pubs with the same settings, while for those other games, since I would like to play on reasonably high settings in 1080p while maintaining around 100 fps, I'm not really sure what I'd need. I would assume 1060 is about enough looking at benchmarks but maybe a non-Ti 1070 would be the right compromise between a too demanding 1070 Ti (in terms of price and having to get a better mobo and CPU) and a now fairly aging 1060 ?
Here are the two builds :
https://www.materiel.net/configurateur-pc-sur-mesure/af1fd572e2e9e0ddee6db2dd7e7d0c75/ - 1060 6Go
https://www.materiel.net/configurateur-pc-sur-mesure/68de30d4b941e215c82918e6340d4aa8/ - 1070 8Go (non-Ti)
Hope the 1070 one is coherent (meaning the CPU and mobo are fine for a non-Ti 1070), and I wonder which one would have the better performance to price ratio with the game settings I described earlier in the post...

Thanks again for spending some of your time to help the community !

Yes, that's about what I was thinking too.

You can look in the benchmark thread to get a more accurate estimate for TF2. Take your current fps in 6s/pubs with the settings you want, run the demo and then based on the ratio you should be able to get a rough idea of you need by comparing the demo result with results in the thread.
However I believe that you'll probably have to overclock. Since you're already going for the 8350K and need a cooler anyway the only difference would be a Z370 mobo. That would also allow you to run faster RAM (TF2 loves fast RAM, especially timings are important) since B360 is limited to 2666. 3200 CL16 shouldn't cost much more, there's even one 3600 CL19 kit in stock for 167€ right now.

There are cheaper cases with two fans, the for example Focus G should work, I think, but there's probably other options as well.

The way I see it you've got 3 options:
1. Optimize for TF2. Z370/Z390 mobo and faster RAM, GTX 1060.
2. Optimize for the other games. Usually I'd recommend the 8300 so the drop isn't too much but you save 30€ and don't need a cooler but that shop doesn't even offer it and the 8100 is almost twice the price it should be so I'm not sure it's even worth it. Simply getting a cheaper case would get you back within budget so it's better to do just that.
3. Go over budget and do both. With the RAM I mentioned, the Focus G, cheaping out on the mobo (will limit your overclock a bit) and getting a 250GB SSD instead of 500B you can get it down to 1230€, which isn't too bad I guess.
Ideally you'd want to keep the 500 GB SSD (+30€) and get a mobo with decent VRMs, but that would cost you at least another 50€ in that shop.

Pretty sure I'm actually down to go over budget and do both since I can't seem to choose between the first 2 options :
https://www.materiel.net/configurateur-pc-sur-mesure/1c4b3da8006edfe8b36fe28a0c8da4a7/
Does this one sound good ? I spared about 20 euros switching from 2TB to 1TB of storage since I don't think I will need 2TB in fact, which is why I managed to remain around 1260 euros.
My only concerns now are whether the i3-8350K will be able to keep up with the 1070 and faster RAM (maybe only mobo matters for RAM ?), whether the 1070 I've chosen is a mini version (one of my friends says it might be but I wouldn't say so myself since it has 2 fans and price doesn't sound absurd for a 1070), and lastly whether the Corsair power supply will be able to keep up with the components now that they're slightly beefier.
As for the shop, I could definitely split components between shops since there are other options if you think I can spare a significant amount of money by doing so, I just used this part picker cause I was a little lazy and kept with it for the sake of consistency throughout the thread.

Yes, but either go all the way down to the Z370-A PRO (pretty much no difference to the Z370-P) or get a mobo with good VRMs.

In all games other than TF2 the 8350K should be more than enough.
https://www.techspot.com/review/1006-the-witcher-3-benchmarks/page5.html
8350K ~ 4690K
Even underclocking the 4790K to 2.5 GHz doesn't change anything. That's on medium with a 980, but a 1070 is nowhere near twice as fast so you're still GPU limited no matter what.

Yes, 2 fans usually mean it's not a mini version (some rare exceptions exist).

PSU should be fine.

Let's just have a look at pcpartpicker. 3600 RAM isn't going going to be much cheaper, but 3200 (with the same or better latency) is definitely cheaper outside of that shop.
https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/cwZcjy
This is all with equivalent or better components and on pcp, which is terrible in France because for most parts it shows only Amazon and for most where it does know other shops it's just LDLC and Alternate which aren't any cheaper and it still saves >120€.

If you invest more time and do comparisions manually or via a site you can definitely go lower.
E.g. https://www.rue-montgallet.com/prix/acheter,seagate-barracuda-1-to-st1000dm010,818138

I'm doing some comparisons right now, and I realize I do not know what VRMs are exactly : which mobos have good ones (in the 370 series) ? Are good VRMs useful only in a situation where you expect to overclock your CPU ?
Btw, since both these (see below) versions of the 1070 have the same price, do you have any clue whether any of the two is better than the other ? They're both overclocked by default and have comparable frequencies so I'm not too sure :

Well it's about power delivery. Any mobo is fine when the CPU draws 100W, but when you overclock it and it draws 150-200W the bare minimum isn't enough anymore.
https://www.overclock.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=99753
https://www.overclock.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=231464
You don't need anything crazy, just not in the red. Even yellow is fine.

I mean if you're buying from different shops you can afford it anyway, so there's no use in cheaping out and getting a lower overclock after you've paid >80€ more for a Z mobo and cooler.

The main difference will be the cooler, you'll have to check reviews to see which one stays cooler (or actually boosts higher at the same temperatures) or which one is quieter.

Alright, this is what could be the final version I guess :
https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/user/dolchthelitchi/saved/bmdfHx
Should end up being around 40-50 euros cheaper than what pcpartpicker says since it doesn't detect some of the cheaper offers from french shops I found while making comparison, as you mentioned. How does the config look ?

This is my current pc build
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4mVzzM
I have been having problems with some games that are more cpu intensive most notably GTA where I'm sometimes at max cpu usage and getting micro stutters. So I wanted to try to advantage of sales and try to upgrade my cpu which might mean I have to get a new cooler. My budgets is around $500 maybe more depending on what else I would need to get. I don't really have plans to overclock it.

i'm planning on buying some kind of ssd for this christmas
in a local store, i can currently get ADATA, kingston and "XPG" ones (never heard of them b4 so)

 • should i worry about the performance of these compared to ssds from samsung, crucial, wd, etc? or rather would i be able to notice the difference in everyday use
 • is there a difference between the performance of the blue variant of the ADATA ssd compared to the green in everyday use and is it worth the +15usd for the performance of the blue one?
 • i did the calculation of how much space my most used programs would take on a drive (60-70gb counting windows and tf2), should i try getting 128gb ssd or a 250gb?
 • if i had to pick between kingston and adata, what would be the better pick or is there basically no difference in everyday use?

thanks in advance

[*] is there a difference between the performance of the blue variant of the ADATA ssd compared to the green in everyday use and is it worth the +15usd for the performance of the blue one?
[*] i did the calculation of how much space my most used programs would take on a drive (60-70gb counting windows and tf2), should i try getting 128gb ssd or a 250gb?
[*] if i had to pick between kingston and adata, what would be the better pick or is there basically no difference in everyday use?
thanks in advance

Why would you need a new cooler? What do you have in mind?

Also I don't think your problem is fixable.
GTA V simply shits the bed whenever it's CPU limited.

https://img.purch.com/r/711x457/aHR0cDovL21lZGlhLmJlc3RvZm1pY3JvLmNvbS9KL0gvNTk5NDUzL29yaWdpbmFsL2d0YXYtMTl4MTAtZnRvci5wbmc=

As you can see while the 6700K is happily chugging along at 80 fps the 6320 (at the same clockrate, just half the cores) drops to an average of 20 fps with lag spikes equivalent to 3 fps. I don't need to explain that it does not make sense for a CPU that should be exactly half as fast to drop to 1/4th to 1/20th of the performance.
This is just GTA V being a broken piece of shit.

The solution is to either get a slower GPU or simply cap the fps.

If you want to replace your CPU anyway and not overclock your options are limited. I'm going to list base clock, all core and single core turbo for all.
i5-7600: 3.5, 3.9, 4.1 (your current CPU)
i5-7600K: 3.8, 4.0, 4.2
i7-7700: 3.6, 4.0, 4.2 (more expensive than the 7600K and the extra threads do nothing for GTA V, if anything they cost a few fps)
i7-7700K: 4.2, 4.4, 4.5
For everything else you need a new motherboard.
i5-8600: 3.1, 4.1, 4.3 (note the lower base clock, again the extra cores do nothing but at least they don't hurt you)
i5-8600K: 3.6, 4.1, 4.3
i7-8700: 3.2, 4.2, 4.6
i7-8700K: 3.7, 4.3, 4.7
i7-8086K: 4.0, 4.3, 5.0 (at this point you'd have to go over budget to afford the mobo)
i5-9600K: 3.7, 4.3, 4.6

Notice that your best case scenario is ~22% for 500$, but it won't fix your problem anyway.

Either you figure out how to read the actual model names instead of going by colours or I don't see you successfully ordering one anyway.

You should not compare SSDs by brands or colour, because the speed depends on the model aka what's inside the case, not on the colour or brand logo on the case.

@Setsul
Do you also do laptops? If not, ignore this post, otherwise:

I'm looking to buy a general-purpose laptop for the coming 4+ years. Think video recording and editing, Visual Studio, Photoshop, stuff like that. None of it is for professional purposes, but still I don't want things to be slow.
I intend to use it for gaming also, but I don't need 120hz, nor do I need maxed out graphics. AA for example will always be turned off, and I'm fine with turning down/off fancy shaders. It's unlikely that there will be any game development, so I don't need the beastiest of laptops. I won't be using it for streaming. (Oh, and TF2 does not have any kind of priority.)
Tweakers is supposed to be "the comparison site" in the Netherlands, but it pales in comparison to what countries like Germany and the USA offer. I'm willing to order from Germany since (for example) amazon.de seems to have a good connection to Netherlands in terms of shipping and warranty. (Maybe more sites do?)
For now I have the budget at €2,000, but I'm certainly willing to exceed it if it's worth the money (according to my Demands/Wants lists). Price/quality ratio is more important to me than having a strict budget, as I plan to use it daily for years. I'd rather not cheap out now and regret it later.

Demands:
- No Apple
- 15" at least
- 1920x1080
- Matte screen
- 256 GB SSD
- 1 TB HDD
- 8 GB RAM at least
- Dark exterior (black / grey)
- No "2-in-1" or foldable screens (I don't need/want a tablet)
- 2+ USB ports
- Qwerty
- Trackpad/touchpad

Wants:
- 3+ USB ports.
- Battery life of 4+ hours while/for watching movies (the more the better I suppose).
- Good-looking screen.
- Nice build quality, I'd rather not get issues with the screen's hinges for example.
- Not loud?
- Good wifi? I'll be using the laptop a lot 1 story from where my router is located.
- Ethernet would be a nice bonus.
- No touchscreen (I won't use it, so it would be redundant).
- 60hz would be enough, but more would be fine of course.
- No disc drive, wouldn't use it.

Doesn't matter:
- Weight
- Thickness
- I don't really care for 17", so I'd be happy to go for 15" if that cuts down the price

Hopefully this was clear and complete enough?

Nope, maybe someone else can help you out.
Other than that you can put in all the restrictions on a comparision site (e.g. https://tweakers.net/categorie/496/laptops/producten/ or https://geizhals.de/?cat=nb ) and then read a lot reviews.

At least for the i7-7700k it says it doesn't come with a cooler so I would guess I have to buy one since I don't have any except for the i5 cooler.

And what's wrong with your old cooler?

Either way a 10% faster CPU will not fix GTA V, but I wish you the best of luck on your way to waste 350$ anyway.

What manufacturer has the best dead pixel/subpixel/foreign matter policy for 1440p 144hz ips monitors? Should I just deal with Nixeus's 2 bright/3 dark policy? I wouldn't mind spending more if I could be sure it was dead pixel free for at least a year or two. I could also maybe settle with getting a 60hz ips monitor to pair with a xg2401. I have a budget of around $450.

my 650ti finally is on its deathbed so im looking for a new gpu
i play pubg, overwatch, fortnite, and source games + wanna play black ops 4 battle royale
i am on a 1080p 144hz monitor, and would like to make use of it, don't really care about graphics quality outside of clarity
was looking at a gtx 1060 or rx 580 but was wondering if i should look at something with more power or if that is overkill

Wanna build my first PC in the next month, would like to reach ~200fps in tf2 and run PUBG fairly well. Mostly I just dont want to have to buy a new pc when a new game comes out. I was thinking of the following build:

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - MasterAir G100M RGB 22.63 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI - B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Storage: -Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
-Intel - 545s 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: Colorful NVIDIA GeForce iGame GTX 1070 8GB Video Card GPU GDDR5 256bit PCI-E VR GTX 1070 PC Gaming Video Graphic Card
Case: Cooler Master - MasterBox Lite 5 ATX Mid Tower Case
Power supply: Corsair - CXM 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

I honestly just kind of put stuff together that made somewhat sense, can anyone tell me if this seems good or could be optimized?

Budget?
Overclocking?
For both TF2 and PUBG you'd be better of just getting 4 cores with higher clockrate.

Also that cooler is a bad joke.

Budget is ~1100 euros inc monitor (willing to spend a bit more but the more I spend the longer I have to wait so rather not overdo it). Im open to overclocking but dont have the know how so I'd have to ask someone.

Could you propose a better build? Mostly I just use the pc for light programming I could do on literally any computer and browsing internet and play videogames. Will overclocking make the pc die sooner and if so how much sooner?

I don't really have any must-haves, just that the quieter the build is the better. Some games I know I want to play (not sure if relevant): Overwatch, tf2, CSGO, pubg, Fallout 4
