Ringing in right ear

Sorry I'm making a whole thread about this but this has got me a bit worried :(

I went to sleep last night feeling absolutely fine, nothing wrong with my hearing whatsoever, and as I wake up in the morning there's a very obvious high pitched ringing which is exclusive to my right ear that has remained there constant since I woke up. I think it's very weird because I've done absolutely nothing to put my hearing at risk yesterday, and it's never happened to me out of the blue.

Last time I had a very obvious ringing in my right ear was about 1.5 years ago, but that was after I was dumb enough to go to a Death Grips concert with no hearing protection, so I don't think that relates to the current issue. I will try to get this checked out by a doctor asap, but have any of you ever been faced with a similar issue?

Yeah, I get occasional noticeable ringing in one ear. It sounds louder than just the normal tinnitus that comes from having the volume too high. The louder ringing goes away a while after I stop paying attention to it. From what you've described and my own experience, I wouldn't get too concerned until maybe an hour has passed. That said, I don't know exactly what you're experiencing, so I hesitate to tell you to avoid medical care. I don't know if it's actually related to something more serious.

I had the exact same experience a few months ago, it lasted for about one day.

Do you use Q-tips to clean your ears?
"Pushing a swab into the ear can cause the wax in the ear canal to become impacted against the eardrum, causing tinnitus." Source

That was the mistake I made, and since I stopped pushing them in so deep I never had this issue again.

Definitely go see a doctor though, it can always be something more serious!

Another possibility is that if you grind your teeth or clench your jaw while you sleep it can result in tinnitus in the morning for a while. If it starts to happen regularly you may want to look into sleeping with a mouth guard with some give to it so that you can bite down on it without building up as much tension.

Yo, all's good. Doctor said I have an inflamed red bump inside my ear canal which is altering my perception of sound and causing a ringing to be heard, probably caused by aggressive cleaning when using q-tips. He did say he didn't see a spec of wax in my canal. Anywho, I've been prescribed drops and my hearing should be okay :) Thank u everyone <3

PSA TO ALL: Don't fucking use q tips at all, end of story. If you really want to clean what's in there, find an alternative method, like rinsing it with water or olive oil.

The product LITERALLY tells you not to do it. Talk to any ENT and they'll give you a million reasons it is a bad idea.
