Is scout too strong?

Most would accept that scout is the strongest class in the game right now. Is this fine or should it be changed?

If you believe he is too strong we should be buffing other classes rather then nerfing him.

Shoot me some ideas.

Nah, not really.
Sure, he is the best as far as pure killing power goes and has an advantage in most 1v1 situations.
But that's pretty much all the scout does, he doesn't have the same utility as the other 6s classes.
He can't spam, so he can't deny areas and can't lock down chokes, he can't pick the medic as effectively as a soldier, he doesn't have the high DPS of a demo, he's the worst of the main 6s classes on last defenses, can't build uber as well as a soldier.
Only specialty he has that demo and solly can't do is denying jumping soldiers.

He's probably still the best class overall (not most important tho, that's the medic), but that doesn't automatically mean hes too good.
Too good by my definition would mean that he makes other classes obsolete, as in if there were no class limits you'd replace one or more of the other classes for more scouts, which I don't think many teams would do.

why should we buff other classes? that would only reduce the time-to-kill, which isn't necessarily a good thing (could lead to teams being safer and sacs being less effective)

Demo Buffs that would be cool

-revert sticky nerf (or at least remove the whole rampup bs)
-remove tumble and spin from projectiles similar to how the loch-n-load works
-fix the sticky detonation delay (might not be easy but should definitely happen)

Soldier Buffs that would be cool

-I really like the idea of making the soldier take gunboats self-damage all the time, and just removing gunboats, might be to much of a buff but would be interesting at the very least.

All the other classes need various little fixes or a near complete redo (looking at you pyro), but I doubt any of them would be as effective as scout, but would definitely make them better/less of a pain to play and play against.

I've seen a lot more soldiers run shotgun lately (that includes me). While it's certainly better in a fight than gunboats, it's not the magical scout countering weapon some people make it out to be.

I think just increasing soldier's movement speed to match demoman speed would probably be enough for soldier

As much as I'd like pre-nerf stickies back it's very unlikely for it to actually happen

maybe decreasing the amount of damage soldiers and demos did when sticky/rocket jumping (not by much though) wouldn't be a bad idea either

EDIT: to elaborate, id also like to mention that scout being too strong shouldnt mean buffing other classes. people forget how strong classes like soldier and demo already are against every other class, there's no reason to buff them just for the purpose of scout being strong. instead, nerf scout to compensate. a scattergun spread increase would be cool, but also nerf his unlocks so they're not borderline game-breaking (soda popper/sandman/atomizer etc)

The problem is if you're running shotgun pocket to counter their scouts you're in a way countering you're own scouts because they'll get less heals. Not sure if that's a worthwhile trade-off.

do you guys think, in terms of soldiers what would balance it for them would be a hybrid between the gunboats and man treads? like you take 10 more damage for the rocket jump compared to gunboats, but scouts can't deny so easily once you're in the air.

i think giving soldier full time gunboats would be extreme and way too powerful, but a slight buff to self explosive resistance would be nice (also a commensurate nerf to gunboat explosive damage to prevent them from being more powerful than they already are). also it would be nice if gunboats still worked when your rocket hit an enemy, it would make getting close to a scout less scary with gunboats because you would be taking significantly less self damage.

I hope one day scouts will stop getting buffed with every update, but with the medic update kinda lost hope in other classes getting buffed. Valve just likes the scout :/

I think this is a mindset players really need to get out of. I can understand how people think that because you take more self damage without gunboats, you must receive more heals in return. While that's true, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be a complete total 35% healed tank. Paddie for example had a few games where b4nny had out healed him, and paddie is a shotgun heavy pocket.

I think it's actually really important to know how to rocket jump properly if you were to run shotgun pocket, though. Paddie & rando (believe it or not) aren't complete newbies at jumping and know how to jump around without wasting ~60 health per jump. If you ever watch Rando play, that guy legitimately bombs into crowds of people with less than 100 HP before his jump.

I truly believe shotgun pocket is viable, people just really need to get their all-around soldier mechanics down before they're really ready to be a TRUE counter to scouts

While you are at it, make rockets do 125 at point blank range too. Nothing more frustrating as soldier to come face to face with a scout around a corner, hit him with a direct point blank and see him run off alive after he meatshot you once.
