I can't tell if there's literal zero airstrafing on these RJs because they removed the ability to do so or the trailers are just bad.

Also, vomit vomit vomit.

2. it looks heavily like new doom's airstrafing where you can't move backwards or sideways to do so.

From reading this article, it seems like the quake pro players they talked to were happy with the movement. I'm pretty confident that the game will feel fine, they didn't fuck up when it came to Doom.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is the silly ability stuff, and the balancing of the various champions. It could have very serious implications for duels if it's not handled very carefully, and frankly I hope that for the duels they have a separate "champion" with no abilities, so it's a more classic style experience. Honestly, I feel like the whole "champions" aspect is just more bandwagoning on the new class-based moba shooter fad.

im not that optimistic for abilities in an arena map where you're basically gonna be taking a lot of 1v1s unless you're in organised play. abilities kinda work in team fights but in an arena map im anticipating dying to lots of random shit

It says nothing about the feel of the movement, save that one person thought that a champion moved to fast.

Didn't everyone hate the DOOM multi?

They said they have a "classic mode" where all abilities are turned off.

Also, oh god at 29 seconds into the nyx trailer we can see that Clutch has a Rein shield fuck

It’s also important for us that Quake Champions stays true to the legacy of Quake with rocket jumping and air control, and that was clearly on display with the competitive players. I think most of them took about ten steps when they first loaded up the game and then rocket jumped. They felt good about the speed and the air control and picking up your top speed with strafe jumping. Those things were intimately familiar to the pro players.

tbh game looks really cool, but i probably wont buy it unless there is some kind of "classic" mode without all the abilities and shit. which will not happen. so i probably wont get it unless its cheaper than 60$

This is the first game that looks like it has the potential to make me leave TF2.

The trailer is used to showcase the game's art style. Not the movement.
There's a reason why the enemies just run in straight lines. They need some brainless gameplay to catch the attenion of new players. They won't be interested if it's people bunnyhopping around the map at max speed. They won't even know what's going on.
99% of all gameplay trailers are like this. Get people to run in straight lines, pretend it's gameplay while it's actually just showcasing the art.

You'll know what the movement is like when the closed beta is out. No point in complaining about something from watching pseudo gameplay

How good this is really depends on what the standard gamemodes are and how skills can be used in them tbh.

I doubt quake champions will have 20+ heroes tho

also the art style of overwatch being somewhat similar to tf2 in that it's cartoon-like with bright colors and unique maps is part of what has drawn so many people to it

overwatch core gameplay is dm and use of abilities and so goes the same for quake champions, you are saying overwatch is complete garbage and you can't get into at all. the 2 games are fairly comparable as for how the combat will be for the game. if u cant get into overwatch you probably cant get into quake champions as it'll just be as gimmicky my friend

Honestly the trailers make it look like movement will be a much bigger part of the game in QC than it is in OW. in OW there are so many things keeping you from moving around, whether it's a lack of movement options, map design, or abilities designed to keep people from moving at all.

I'm sure that the maps will not be designed to be anywhere near as much of a chokefuck as they are in OW, the weapons will have movement options (like rocket jumping) on top of however movement is implemented. it also seems like abilities are not the main focus of the characters, just something to add on to them, like in ow roadhog is defined by his hook, reinhardt is his shield, whereas in a game like dirty bomb the characters had abilities but still did shit without them, which I'd be fine with.

I can't tell if there's literal zero airstrafing on these RJs because they removed the ability to do so or the trailers are just bad.

Also, vomit vomit vomit.

tbh never take early trailers for highly competitive games with a high skill ceiling seriously

just look at the early "battle reports" for SC2 to see what I mean

not only do they get devs to play it, they always get the worst devs to play it

Not sure how you can possibly believe this. Is really easy to examine the different games and see what the main focus revolves around.

Overwatch revolves around Ultimate Charges. DM in Overwatch is only a moderate factor at best. Abilities in Overwatch trump DM ability by a fucking mile and that's not even debatable IMO. Teamplay and coordination play a big part but even that still revolves around Ultimate's, not stronger DM ability.

Quake 3/Live revolves strictly around DM ability. There are no gimmicks to use, just who is the smarter/better player. Outside of 1v1, Teamwork and Coordination are moderately high factors but superior DM ability will trump anything in Quake games. Champions might not follow that past trend completely but I can't see a Quake based game that does not stress DM ability over everything else. It just wouldn't be Quake but I guess we will see.

TF2 revolves around UBERS, but DM and coordination remain heavy factors. That is one of the reasons I enjoy TF2 so much. When compared to most other games, no skill in itself overshadows the other important skills. I really feel there is a solid balance in TF2 that other games have trouble matching. Its kinda sad this game never took off to showcase that balance. :(
