SetsulI can absolutely understand it when you have only 4 days (Wednesday - Saturday) and can't find a day when both teams can play. But it's not like both teams dissappear completely after this Saturday.

Well on wednesday afternoon SO said that they can play Wed - Sat, so Chess was the team that couldn't play on any of those 4 days. That was unfortunate that the deadline was so close, but they knew about it and they had a choice to play any day until the deadline.

4hpIt's easy to say "lolhl" and "good" but no matter what your opinions on the gamemode, the HL community is a significant part of the TF2 community, and it makes me sad when stuff like this happens.

I only have one thing to say about this. It wasn't a good idea to establish double elimination playoffs in highlander at its current stage, causing them to take way longer than people care to stick around for. The old playoff model (4th plays 3rd, winner plays 2nd, winner plays 1st) was shorter and more fitting.

Yeah, it's mostly banter and I'm actually concerned for the gamemode. HL is where I had my upbringing, as I'm sure a lot of players did. It would suck to force all the HL players to play 6s if they're happy otherwise, just as it would suck to force all the 6s players to play HL if they're happy otherwise.

When I had to schedule the grand finals for UGC, we could just delay the match even when it was 2 weeks after the deadline.

The next highlander season will probably start at the end of March, so enough time for this match right?

Ond_kajaScrambledThis is chessclub having bad organisation, nothing more. Ondkaja is blaming the league and the format for one team supposedly not being able to play a single day in the week before the deadline.
Yeah, I should have unbooked my LAN trip to the US and rescheduled my exams so I could play the highlander playoffs which dates and format were decided AFTER THE FUCKING SEASON HAD ENDED

lol i went from +5 to -5 when you responded :(

My point stands, the team probably knew weeks (if not months) in advance of the playoffs that you were at this lan, not really hard to organise a merc with that time and the amount of soldiers better than you at HL available anyway.

It was also well known before the season started that there were two possible dates for the playoffs, due to Christmas etc.

Every downfrag makes me more powerful.

I think you're missing the point.

It was known that players wouldn't be back from Rewind LAN until at least Tuesday, if not Wednesday.
Some people also don't want to play on Friday or Saturday.

So at best the LBF would be played on Tuesday and then once they knew which team had to play the GF they'd have 24-48 hours to figure out how to get 9 players for Thursday.

S-O didn't tell them until Wednesday afternoon when they could play.

Have you ever successfully gotten a full roster for an official if you only knew about it 6-30 hours in advance?

Have you ever successfully gotten a full roster for an official in HL when there were only 4 days possible?

Have you ever played two officials in the same week with your full roster, when you knew you would not have your full roster available all week?

It's all fine and by the rules, but I don't see a reason to complain about chess defaulting it when they have to play twice in a week that they can not play in.

There was no issue with extending from ETF2L's perspective, we set a time period for the game, if the teams want to play outside of that period they need both teams to agree. Chess couldnt play in that period, Strong Opinions could and didnt want to play later, so chess gave a default.

Your entire argument implies that the deadline of the finals was a surprise. This low time between matches is due to a complaint at the lack of teams to scrim during playoffs.

Moist_Penguinyou didnt put effort in to help avoid the issue

You could completely have avoided the clash with ESA rewind by making this a single elim bracket just like every other HL playoff. Every single winter season i've been complaining that the post season extends FAR too long, for fuck's sake it's been a month and a half since the last match of the main season was played! So your solution is to make the season even longer, make the playoffs clash with the rewind lan, and make this decision AFTER the main season had fucking ended so you can't even plan around it? Not sure how the fuck i'm supposed to help avoiding the issue here, if you are so insistant on making bad decisions in the last minute. It's like playoffs just came around and your reaction was "oops, didn't think of this, what do we do now?".

Not ETF2L's fault, they could do a few little things better but ultimately Chessclub were a mess in terms of organization and scheduling. Kaja's rant is pathetic and I lost respect for him because Strong Opinions were in the same position and travelling as some of us were in Chess. I think we went like 4 weeks straight in Jan without a full roster, that is our fault.

My biggest regret is how a team so disorgaized like Chess with so many people who did not give a shit make it to the LAN final. People do not care as there is nothing to play for beyond the idea of competing.

If you get to a stage where Grand Finals can't be played it reflects poorly on the league but it is mostly about Chessclub not being organised.

SetsulDeadline on Saturday is still a terrible idea.

The deadline was today, sunday. Immediately after the LB finals, CeeJaey contacted Chess (tuesday night) while he was still playing 6v6 with his team in order to find a date until sunday. Strong Opinions offered every single day except sunday (i.e. wednesday-saturday).
Chessclub said we can only play sunday or we need to default. As players from Strong Opinions had scheduled work trips and exampreparations to after our deadline, a further delay would not have been possible. Especially because pushing the GF further into the already running 6v6 season will probably only make it more complicated for teams to schedule, because as the season progresses, teams (including prem 6v6 teams) tend to scrim more and more in order to be at their peak at playoffs).

We put the default date because SO was available 4/5 days, and chess only on one. We chose the latest date (saturday) in order to give chessclub the most possible time to sort out their roster or even get scrims going.

That being said, nobody wanted this situation. It is very disappointing to end the season like this and I promise this mess will not happen again.

FFygIt's actually so strange how much the hl and 6s communities hate eachother. Like both scenes are in the same boat, no reason to seem like shitty toxic communities to any potential new players

I agree, I never understood why people poison the relationship between these two sub-communities. Although I feel like the hate is a one-way-street as 6v6 players seem to be very quick to trashtalk the gamemode and anyone who takes it seriously whereas most (if not all) HL players respect the 6v6 gamemode as a fun one to play and a large percentage of people that consider themselves HL mains participate in the 6s seasons with friends to have a good time.

1. The double elimination bracket was requested by the teams so you are an outlier in regards to wanting single elimination.

2. The LAN was announced after we had announced our season, we didnt get any early info on the lan or on european teams attending. We adjusted the playoff dates for teams that told us they had issues, Strong Opinions came to us and told us they had two players in that lan and we worked with them on it. Chess brought up no issues with the schedule.

Im sorry we cant know about your issues without you telling us.

Stinson_OutEspecially because pushing the GF further into the already running 6v6 season will probably only make it more complicated for teams to schedule

Or you know, you could've asked the teams instead of just guessing?

Also I still don't see why having a full week without any matches before Rewind LAN and then a week with 2 matches directly after Rewind LAN was the best solution.
Was anyone bootcamping or scrimming before Rewind?

Which only affects you, the one team out of the 3 left that did not have to play a match in that week.

See my point?
