Rewind low view numbers

I pretty much watched the entire stream minus the grand finals since I had to sleep and I noticed that the view numbers throughout the whole thing were about 2.5-2.9k, rarely actually breaking 3k. This is quite a dip from other international lans, i55 peaked at almost 9k, i58 still had about 5-6k.

I think it would be good to analyze why Rewind had half the viewers compared to i58.

Was it because of the time zones?
Was it because it was streamed on ESA's and not TFTV's twitch?
Lack of advertisement for the LAN? Insomina is a well known tf2 lan so the more casual audience still knows that it happens every summer. Maybe word about Rewind wasn't spread that much outside of the more dedicated 6s community.
Or was it simply a case of people losing interest in watching 6s or tf2 in general?

As I said, I think it's good to identify the problem because some amazing people invest their blood sweat and tears into events like this one and it's a shame when only a couple thousand people actually tune in.

people are way more likely to tune in if they already follow the channel so having it hosted on tftv's stream is always going to have more viewers. people that used to play might hop in and watch if they see it on their side bar but most dont go out of their way to check there is an international LAN on right now.

tbh most people had work /school the next day, so they wouldnt have been able to stay up late to watch the final

Personally I definitely didn't watch because of the timezone difference. I wouldn't doubt that for some Euros this is also the reason. If East Coast-ish Americans want to watch Insomnia, they wake up early or sneak a peek at work if they don't have the leisure. If I wanted to watch Rewind, I'd have to stay up until the next day's morning - the broadcast only started at 8PM for me. Theoretically I could've stayed up and nothing would've happened since I have no life, but most other people are sane and value their sleep cycle and ability to work. I assume for West Coasters and Australians Insomnia is just as bad in that regard.

I totally fucked my sleep schedule because seven never pushed W. Tbf nobody seven played pushed w either but seven totally forced that play style. So many golden caps

Genesis for melee was the same weekend. They hit 100k+ during grand finals so shoutout to them.

I thought teamfortresstv was hosting esportsarena.

well the I series has been a long ass tradition so I'd expect it would have a higher view count. But I don't think rewind was poorly advertised, there were dozens of threads, plenty of announcements, and many streamers hyping it up.

iirc there was actually an in-game announcement. It was also posted on the teamfortress.com news feed.

I doubt that has a major influence though. I know I ignore everything in the host section unless I'm pretty much out of anything else to do.

we were (at least on the first day, i forgot to check if we were on the 2nd day). it was also in the sidebar

the timezone isn't great for eu though the stream was still at about the same viewers during prime eu hours (even though it's a tad early for most of NA)

Insomnia Series has more magic and hype in the run up to Summer because its the iconic TF2 tourney that most players know about. Rewind being relatively new meant not nearly enough hype was produced for it since people wanted to see that it would work first. But now we have a year to sort out the kinks and make it a direct match to an i-series LAN.

I think it's due to traditions. The i-series has become an institution over the years. Imo there was less hype for this lan beforehand than the i-series usually gets.

Also, is this about the same level of viewership that the old ESEA lans used to have?

As someone that doesn't keep up much I didn't really even know when it was happening. The fact it was on a different twitch was why I didn't see any of it. Didn't even know.

I wonder if ESA would have been this upcoming weekend instead of last weekend if we would have had more numbers. I really think that having a lot of other big events like G4, Eleague, the Alienware thing, etc all on the same weekend really took away from numbers that we could have gotten

I didnt watch cause of genesis, and a lack of interest in tf2 which made me not realize it was on. so everything except timezones for me.

with more advertising and better timing I'm sure there would be a lot more viewers.
