How the hell do you guys expect as a community to increase the competetive tf2 scene when all you do is make circlejerked NA Open/IM threads and comments that nobody understands who is new to this board. Id say it makes new players feel p unwelcome tbh.

Anyone else like playing scout? I find that jumping and shooting bullets is WAYYYY better that shooting rockets which explode on contact with the map or entities. Uplike if you agree

What actually is some inside-only stuff that people wouldn't get? I hear it all the time but I can't actually think of anything we say that everywhere else tf2-related doesn't also say, or (for site-specific things like upfrags or the streamlist or something) should be pretty obvious just by looking at how the site's designed.

90% of the Internet is circlejerks, unless you literally just touched your computer for the first time you should be used to this already.

In fact I'd say we're better than literally every other esports(ha tf2 is ded not esport) community (LoL,CSGO,OW)

eeea new player says new players don't get anything out of the forums and you all call him dumb

there are mountains of info for new players if they use the search bar hes complaining about the small tf2 internet community being circlejerky ofc its going to be circlejerky thats how small internet communities are what do you expect the small internet tf2 community to do adapt only popular facebook memes and only talk about things that people outside of the small internet tf2 community know about thats silly

The only thing that should make newcomers feel unwelcome (the ones that you actually want, anyway) is when they ask questions and people tell them to get fucked for it. Otherwise yes this is a community and there are things outsiders don't understand. I mean fuck try browsing /r/eve for 5 minutes and tell me how much you understand. That game is famous specifically for players fucking each other over and yet it still works because there's a huge active movement for helping out the newbros.

I always thought that having jokes and references only people inside the community understands is what makes such a great strong community. Newcomers are always welcome, but it will take some time for them to figure out everything this wacky community is about.

tbh when I was new, like just over a year ago, I found the community pretty welcoming and easy to get into, and I'm like a total idiot. and anyone more stupid than me probably isn't worth having in the scene anyway :]

I feel like at an entry level getting to know people isn't that big of an issue. Now getting directed to people that can introduce you to the competitive game can be a daunting task, but once you're in it's pretty easy as long as you show up to pugs when they're hosted and such.

When I played more frequently in pugs where I knew I wasn't the best, I certainly struggled but I asked people that were better than me for advice, and most of the people that were experts at a certain class. Take the medic role for example. Even though pug medic is utterly awful when your teammates just want to screw around, you can absolutely refine skills like surfing, tracking ubers, and general survival.

But I will say that if you're trying to get into the upper level pugchamp games where most of the people that are added up know who is good and who isn't good, you're almost certainly going to be denied unless someone knows you.

There's certainly a skill gap for newer players to overcome, but once they've crossed that gap, things get a lot better. Just don't take the memes too seriously and practice on improving your DM a considerable amount. That alone can get a newcomer a LONG way into the competitive side of tf2.
