Fun game with some really infuriating mechanics that don't fit an FPS game.

-Meis freezing. Freezing to a standstill and not being able to shoot after an ice spray would be slightly annoying but ok. Fucking with your mouse sensitivity and slowing it down while getting sprayed and taking away mouse control while frozen really annoys players. Just make it slow you down and don't fuck with the mouse input.
-McCrees flashbang needs a rework. It's basically a CQB 1v1 instawin button. Press E, press mouse2, win fight. No skill, just taking the opponents ability to move, aim and fire away for enough time to kill them for free.
-Soldier 76 has huge damage compared to how easy he is to play. I'd say either nerf his healing thing a bit or slightly lower his damage output. Not too drastic changes needed tho.
-Higher server -> client tick rate. Currently the client is sending stuff at 60hz but the server is only sending at 20hz. Makes damage and other shit hitting you around corners a lot worse. The same thing with tracer blinks. See hook coming, blink to the side but still get pulled partly due to the tick rate and partly due to the
-Client side projectile hit detection. If I have 20 ping and I dodge something slow coming my way, I DON'T WANT TO GET HIT IN THE FACE ANYWAY. I should not get punished when someone else has shitty ping.

its not keeping the masses from playing tf2 but its definitely taking a lot of the top talent

great game with a lot of potential. less dm oriented than tf2, but still a lot of strategizing and way less stale meta.

redi-way less stale meta.

no shit a meta which is developing is less stale then the meta in a game that is nearly 10 years old, what a surprise dude

Waiting for cooldowns on abilities and have your movement limited by them, like getting on rooftops or something, is really frustrating.

SkittlesBTanyway, personally i think that the $40 pricepoint is pretty steep for what they're offering on release and that either a $15-20 entry point or some sort of f2p/microtransaction model would have been more appropriate. dropped like 20ish hours into the beta and it was overally pretty enjoyable in groups of 3+ but when you just queue with one friend or solo queue the downsides of heavily team reliant/class based games really start to show when people just dont want to work together to make a coherent team or just want to do whatever they want and/or are not willing to listen

Blizz has stated that there will be NO microtransactions ever, I also believe the 40$ price tag is also to deter smurfs/hackers from purchasing multiple copies. I completely agree with you that less than a 3 stack in pubs is absolute aids. People just playing what they want and not playing to win.

Im just going to copypaste my thoughts from the open beta thread with a few adjustments

After scrimming with Avast, and bowowser5, and the_savior, kyl_, and Rhydon, among other players, it was some of the most fun Ive had playing a game competitively in forever. Moments are clutch, team talking things out in pregame and strats going accordingly feels extremely rewarding. Having your team make changes on the fly and watching how your team can majorly shift playstyles mid game is so pleasurable to see played out. The dev support is extremely exciting to see and seeing how meta evolves will be interesting.
Honestly, cant wait for release, pubs are so bad imo, but where everyone is trying in pugs and scrims makes this game infinetly times better. Scrims require a lot more thought depending on current situations, the insane amount of coordination required to set up a good push is a lot and fairly soul crushing to see not go correctly but, feels so great to pull off, winning fights even if you didnt put the most thought into it feels exciting. I was having a lot of fun during the beta and definitely going to try someone at release.
Theres still a lot of things that need to be fixed, like McCree's flashbang, Widowmaker one shotting heroes with bodyshots, Winston needs a nerf to his lightning gun. Despite, these and numerous other things, I still really enjoy the game and see it with a lot of potential. :)

Super fun game. Can't wait until more maps come out. I've played every map about 50 times probably.

Game is a blast, love playing as McCree (although flashbang is dumb) and pharah. What really surprised me though is how fun supports/tanks & builders are. Torbjorn is stupid fun to play, and if it weren't for his massive head hitbox i'd probably play him 100% of the time on defence. That gun of his is sick. Game has huge potential as long as bliz doesn't fuck up the balance too much. That said, its not tf2 and never will be. I just need to find time for both games somehow now.

A fun game to play casually. It's clearly designed to appeal to a casual audience but has potential to be a solid Blizzard esport. Not a game that I'll be playing much of long-term.

It's a fun game as long as you have other competent players on your team and a decent class composition (usually at least one tank and healer). I do however have a few problems with the game.

1) 20 tick isn't good enough for a modern FPS game. This adds an additional 36ms of delay between packets vs TF2's 66 tick. Multiple times a day I die to something where I 100% client side was behind a wall. Such as a McCree ult or widow sniping me.

2) No class limits or restrictions. If a 6 stack tries some cheese strats it can be very hard to win (5 roadhogs and a lucio on defense for example).

3) Many situations in the game where death almost unavoidable with no option to get out of the situation (e.g. McCree flashbank is a death 90% of the time for lower HP classes. Roadhogs hook is a death 90% of the time.) I feel like for non-ults there should be a way to break free of the situation either by movement or attacking.

I had a really good time doing 6 stacks and pugs. I imagine it will only get better overtime as people begin to better understand how each hero works and specific picks and counter picks for given situations

jupiterIt doesn't have the same arena fps feel as tf2/quake, it's a pretty different game imo aside from the classes/hero thing.

is it mean't to be an arena fps?

I get to play with all my IRL friends and gf so I've no complaints. If anything years of TF2 has made it easier to communicate and cater to certain players strengths and weaknesses. People in pubs also listen to you as well if you speak clearly, friendly and concisely which definitely also comes from seasons of TF2 comms.

Too many things out of my control to ever want to try it competitively though, a lot random shit happens in TF2 but in comparison Overwatch is a large clusterfuck. When the situation goes right and ults time up correctly it feels great and exhilarating but when we all get wiped by a random ult it's heartbreaking. Too much of a roller coaster for me to want to deal with competitive, draining mentally I'd imagine.

There are some glaring problems with certain heroes right now, but if Blizzard can balance things correctly before or soon after launch I could see the game having a sizable and fresh competitive scene. I don't think that the skill ceiling of the game in general is as high as TF2 (not sure that's even a matter of opinion), but I also think that people writing off the game as a joke with no competitive potential is a bit harsh. After playing some pugs a few times with different groups of players, as well as simply having 6-stack vs 6-stack games in quick-play, I think the game can be decently competitive while still being fun to play casually. But like I said, significant changes need to be made to certain heroes, Widowmaker and McCree being the worst offenders at the moment.

It's definitely not a replacement for TF2 like a lot of people make it out to be; it's a much different experience. I've seen a lot of comp TF2 players hating on it and honestly I can see why, however personally I really enjoyed my time playing it. It's obviously not a game that everyone will enjoy, though.

Exceptionally well made game, and easily the best casual shooter on the market right now. Extremely well polished, fantastic balance, tremendously well optimized, and a refreshing take on the class based shooter.

Not entirely sold on it being competitively viable; it has small issues than can be fixed but it's fundamentally too mechanically simple to ever be taken seriously by hardcore fps players. But if Blizzard wants it to be an esport then it will be an esport. All it takes is fat prize pools.

Some reponses itt are predictably making comparisons to TF2 which continues to be a stupid thing to do. If I didn't know any better I'd think I was reading /r/tf2 posts. A person couldn't even get away with saying "I like it more than tf2" without getting - frags for his hot opinion. I think even reddit would upvote at least one comment saying that to facilitate discussion a little.

It was really nice playing a game that isn't 8 years old, but in terms of esports Overwatch shouldn't be able to compete with TF2 when it comes to the quality of the competition. Shouldn't, but it's Blizzardarian popularity will probably affect it moreso.
