It's really shaping up. It'll be a true game changer.

Was pretty good aside from the obvious fps decreases. Played around 7 games. Fast queue up time, and fast rounds, though I can't ever seem to get the stats page to show up at the end for whatever reason.

I definitely am in agreement about class limits needing to be enforced though. At one point we all went fastcap scout.

Matchmaking is so much fun with friends. The only major complaint I have is that I get about a 4th of the frames I normally do when playing 6v6 with comanglia's high frames config in dx9. Forcing these high settings is making TF2 nearly impossible to stream without feeling severely gimped. Removing the things that destroy frame rate do not give players any advantage other than a higher frame rate. I sincerely hope that these settings are forced on for testing reasons only.

Yeah, the forced settings are odd. No frames complaints from me personally (I run on max everything...) but having a giant weapon in your face is annoying and I kept shooting at ragdolls.

I loved when my teammates would talk and we could try to work out a push with whatever class composition we had, was a ton of fun, ended up playing like a 45 minute foundry game that was super enjoyable

We got into a server instantly every time we searched, and was a lot of fun. I didn't really have any frame problems but I hope it gets fixed for others. I agree that there should be some reasonable class limitations so people can't run 6 engineers or something. Other than that I don't really have much to complain about. This is a really exciting time for TF2.

I really think they need to allow graphics changes in the mode, even if they want to require everyone to use stock HUD

can't really speak about playing in a party, but playing solo with randoms isn't too fun given that the players tend to run constant offclasses and stand right next to each other constantly besides the usual trash talk comp MM entails nowadays.

the times were way better, and I didn't get sent to madrid servers at all, just USE, so if the matchmaker gets better at not matching stacks vs solos and you have a group of people to stack with I could see it being really fun

Too many people who don't know how to play 6s, should add some training system for strategies and stuff

had pretty good discussions with randoms about wanting to get into comp, even had a couple of lobbies where casuals agreed to give out a standard 6s comp during playtime.

but good lord 6 heavy process kmn

having to play with dx9 made me realise that I paid roughly1000€ for a pc that runs a 2007 game at silky smooth and stable 30-100fps
good job with the "performance patches" you promised a year ago, valve

I lost to the gggly stack and won a game 5v6 (it started that way, nobody left). It's pretty silly but it's a lot of fun so far. I kind of like winlimit 2 as long as there are lots of games to hop back into.

I personally think that until tf2 is very well optimized, valve shouldn't enforce high graphics settings for matchmaking. I still enjoyed playing today, but it wasn't as fun due to my piss poor frames. Still needs class limits though. Although I will say I enjoyed having my sentry upgraded immediately from 2 other engineers on viaduct.

-required graphics settings
+class limits (still)

Also, I got multiple medals and it didn't show any progress towards ranking up. It may have been that I wasn't using the stock hud but I found it odd that I had no progress after I got 2 gold medals in a game on foundry. I haven't checked (yet) if I've ranked up with the default hud, but has anyone had this issue? Or is it just me?

RhettroWhat I loved to see in every game people were willing to play med if no one else would which is a very good sign

this is what impressed me most. A few games against multiple medics even, and some solid pub players. There was only one rage quit against our stack (and that was a guy that was against us previously and called us hackers), everyone else were pretty good about it.

Overall really happy with how it's gone/the people i've played against, though it'll be a bit different i'm sure when it's publicly released.

I'm sincerely hoping that the high quality settings are only enforced for stress test purposes... Even if a performance patch is planned, I shouldn't be forced to have the map covered in explosions and blood stains from 20 minutes ago. I can't imagine that anyone actually enjoys playing like that.

It was nice to see that the majority of the games people were actually trying ( a couple games landed us with people just conga'ing but eh, ranks will fix that) and even though there was no class limit, which there really should be, team composition was pretty normal.

A kinda neat concept I came up with after giving some newer/unfamiliar players advice;

Add in some sort of tag feature so you can let people know if you're completely new to the whole 6s concept or if you are experienced in it. This way it may encourage those inexperienced players to ask questions, learn and start getting prepared for the official release.

I think it would work well if it was similar to how rocket leagues level names are handled where you can toggle whether they are displayed or not (basically in other words saying you're not open/comfortable to giving/taking advice by simply not displaying it).

Thoughts?

So on the first round of 5CP maps (Badlands for sure) you can actually get out of the door as Solly/Demo(?) if you're fast enough. Or, as I did, get stuck in the door and somehow lock it, and not realize the door was supposed to open until they start capping mid.

My whole team got stuck in the door on Foundry too, I think this used to happen on granary like 5 years ago. If I remember right it has something to do with too many people going through a shutter door at the same time.

The forced viewmodel settings and graphics settings don't really bother me, people will adjust quickly and it will standardize the look of our game so there isn't a huge barrier for entry (look at cs compared to quake). But if they do actually want to enforce these settings then this big performance update needs to come at the same time.

think matchmaking needs classlimits. playing more than two of a class is not a valid strat and is not fun to play against.

It's fun.

Also a plug to this trick by flame that can drastically improve fps in dx9 without a config;

oh one more bug, turns out if someone dcs during the initial countdown (with the graphic overlay and everything), you can't move but explosive classes can still rocket/sticky jump. Doors still open too, i managed to get to enemy 2nd on process with the sticky jumper before the guy reconnected and the game actually started (it didn't send me back, i started from there lmao)

I'm not sure if it just because of testing but I really hope there is a change to the rounds start. Bringing back freeze time and allowing the doors to open. Right now everything just clamoring for the spawn doors is very silly.

On top of that some of the commands that are currently disabled don't feel like they make much sense though again I imagine its just while the beta gets off the ground.

Also hopefully sometime in the future there is the ability to choose the maps you want to play although that may be detrimental to how fast queue times are when you select certain maps.

I don't really see how allowing people to change settings would make a larger barrier to entry; chances are people who are aware of better settings are more likely to be aware enough to end up higher ranked anyway. So it's not like someone with default settings is gonna be playing against someone with a higher FoV and stuff. And changing things like that is pretty standard for a lot of games.

I'd guess that the reason for the enforced settings is to control variables during the beta tests. They've done work in recent patches improving viewmodel stuff (like the separate option to hide tracers), so I doubt they want to remove customization. They probably just want to have as little variance as possible while gathering data so they can test more important pieces without any confounding variables.
