I'm not in the position yet where I have no real reason to tilt. I'm not on a team and all I play right now is pugs, newbie mixes, and lobbies. Even still I have a problem of massively tilting if I do bad a couple games in a row. It's really irritating which of course feeds back into the tilt. If you guys have any suggestions or methods you know I can use to tone it down, it would be much appreciated.

Edit: I guess I should clarify. Im not the mic screaming tilter, im the sit there silently and be upset kind of tilter

Take a breather, even if it's super short, grab a drink. Just get up from your computer and take your mind off things for a short while at the least.

I want to recommend another side of this - don't freak out to your teammates or while transmitting on Mumble. Not sure how frequent this is these days, but screaming and getting pissed off into the microphone for your teammates to hear will just make things worse for everybody.

As for DEALING with it..

I would recommend remembering that losses and mistakes are how you learn. Try to always learn something from your failures. "If you don't make mistakes, you don't make anything."

realize everyone you've ever known and loved will die at some point and eventually your name and all consequences of your actions will be lost to the sands of time essentially rending your brief existence meaningless.

Get lots of sleep at night, stay hydrated, eat right, and get some exercise. You'll be in a better state mentally which will help you play better and you'll be less emotionally volatile which will make you tilt less when you do.

Does jerking off not help your game?

this is going to sound silly but when you realize you're tilting you have to stop and tell yourself "oh look i'm tilting again, i said i wasn't going to do that anymore, so i'll stop now."

You seem like you have no reason to tilt to me. If you just play pugs then who cares how bad you do. There's no consequence at all aside from maybe losing 1 pug.

Everybody tilts sometimes but managing tilt is a very good skill. The most important thing to think about is to not bring a negative mumble athmosphere while tilting. If you are mad about something, realise that thinking about it will only make it worse as it will send you into a negative thought loop. Take deep breaths for a few seconds and calm your heart rate a bit. Realise what has happened has happened, and being salty about it won't change that. Don't talk about it in mumble, keep your comms focused on the game.

I have some rage problems myself and I have to work actively on minimising the amount of rage so I can focus on the game and not tilt my teammates. My best results so far comes when I actively try to have no reaction when I die or fail to do something, or a bug happens or whatever. If I must rage, I know I have to keep it to myself and start to focus again in a few seconds.

Go all in every hand, that's how you play in full tilt poker.

Lame jokes aside, remember everyone in the server is trying to have fun and may or may not share your frustration. Screaming in mumble is unlikely to change anything but leave a bad impression.

Quickly identify something that you can focus and channel all that energy onto improve. It could be focusing on your DM, timing, reading of the game. Get something positive out of it.

hoolithis is going to sound silly but when you realize you're tilting you have to stop and tell yourself "oh look i'm tilting again, i said i wasn't going to do that anymore, so i'll stop now."

Hooli makes a good point here. Though it doesn't seem like it should make a difference, being mindful of the fact that you are getting tilted or angry is can actually be very helpful in detaching yourself from it. By simply identifying it and being aware that you are in whatever emotional state you are in, you can step back and prevent it from controlling you.

I would suggest that you practice mindfulness and make sure you have a healthy lifestyle outside of the game, it can make a much bigger difference than you might imagine just getting rest and eating healthy.
