What are you guys hype for/think others should tune in for?

Fire Emblem! And Metroid + Super Mario Galaxy. Should be good stuff, per usual.

this is literally everything i'm going to watch since this is my first time looking at the schedule too (so making this as a checklist of what i do want to watch)

splatoon (have never seen that game speedran), rayman legends, resident evil hd (carcionogen owns), aladdin and the lion king because those games were really hard, axiom verge, kero blaster, spelunky, hl2, portal 2, soma, GIMMICK, kaizo mario bros 3,super mario maker, super mario world (both exits), indiana jones and the temple of doom, super punch out, mike tyson's punch out, mirror's edge, stepmania?, azure striker gunvolt, starfox 64, diablo, diablo 2, super mario bros, super mario bros 2, LoZ ocarina of time/master quest, majora's mask, shovel knight, mk8, tas block, link to the past, bloodborne, and super metroid

i don't know a lot of the runners for the games that i want to watch, but i also haven't seen most of the games i listed ever speedran before, so it should be fun

there's going to be a ton of rhythm games at the venue itself since it's being sponsored by magfest, i wish they had cameras of the siderooms since that's where a lot of hype things happen

also hope raysfire gets into the venue because he got kind of screwed at registration, so did peaches (which also really sucks)

Both The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past and Super Metroid Reverse Boss Order runs are extremely impressive to watch.

Much like Tetris before it, Stepmania is a must see.

Sinister and Zallard are doing a Mike Tyson blindfolded race which is a must watch.

Both of Ohon's runs should be amazing.

I'm partial to the Donkey Kong Country series, and you have Eazinn whose DKC 1 run is one of the best played speedruns ever recorded.

The Super Mario 0 Exit race is nice and quick and will blow your mind if you have never seen it before.

Kaizo Mario Bros 3 is a kaizo game, so it has to be impressive to watch someone complete it let alone speedrun it.

Gimmick is another short but impressive to watch speedrun.

Obviously the Super Mario 64 120 star race will be a good watch.

Spikevegeta is running Rayman Legends but regardless any game with his commentary is a good time.

oh I actually didn't know about this, that explains some things

I'll probably try to tune in for stepmania, but idk about anything else - staiain is a god

Super Mario Maker's levels are, if I remember correctly, going to be modified versions of some of PangeaePanga, mitchflowerpower and Carl Sagan's insanely difficult levels, which should make it an enjoyable watch. In addition to this, the entire Super Mario World section that comes right after should be good too.

If you like kart racers, the Diddy Kong Racing race between Toufool and MrsGizamaluke should be a lot of fun to see; they're the top two runners for that game and category and are only 12 seconds apart in terms of PB. It's all racing and no overworld movement, so it should be quick and exciting.

In addition to everything that's been said, the 120 star Super Mario 64 race between the top three players (Simply, Puncayshun and Cheese05) is always a good watch too.

Other runs that should be a lot of fun to see (both because of the runs themselves and the runners) are Galaxy, Splatoon, Portal 2, HL2, Punch Out/Super Punch Out, Banjo Kazooie, Pokemon Yellow, Paper Mario, Legend of Zelda MM 100% (really crazy run!), Shovel Knight, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Ori and the Blind Forest.

Stochast1cMuch like Tetris before it, Stepmania is a must see.

Yeah, Staiaian is insane. While he's not technically doing a "speedrun", the amount of technical skill required to do what he does is crazy. Here's a few examples of him playing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=602IcfqT5Fw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0lxJjURWbA

Also, I'll be there the whole week but as of right now don't have access to the venue due to an issue with my registration. If any of you are planning on going or are in the Herndon, Virginia area, let me know and I'd be down to hang!

Finally, if you guys want a place to hang during the event and have a chat to talk in separate from the main GDQ chat, I'll be hosting it on my channel for the entire week. There were a decent number of people (~40-60) that hung out there during SGDQ this past summer and most people that went there seemed to have a good time hanging out. :>

I haven't really looked at the schedule too much since I'll be going but personally I would highly recommend watching the Mega Man X 100% race. There's a big trick that was found and it should be pretty mind blowing if one of the guys actually gets it.
Would also highly recommend Mega Man Zero, because it's pretty insane how good flameberger is at that game.
Secret of Mana and both of Ohon's runs should be pretty incredible to watch too.
Also anything involving PJ will be amazing, that's just a fact.

Oh, didn't realize it's in the same venue as last year. I live like 10 minutes away lol

Dunno if it would have been worth getting a badge though since I don't really follow the community, but some of the runs are fun to watch for sure (and I definitely wanna see Stepmania).

I scrimmed through Battleblock Theater last night, went through the live vod to watch it and it was 150% worth. It was a coop run with one guy using his phone as a mobile hotspot, while also being on the phone with Stamper - the guy that narrates the game.

The 'shooter' / Source block is about to start with HL2, then Portal 2 and Alien Swarm. HL2 / Source runs are always a good time so I would recommend watching

really stoked to catch some of these VODs. I was going to build my schedule around catching the runs I wanted to see, but I realized pretty early that the only thing I'd miss by waiting is the twitch chat and the boring setup times. I'm also not a big fan of the races. It's cool that they're doing them but I really loved seeing someone who was great at a run explain what they were doing as they did it. The Cosmo (narcissa? !?!?!?!?) wind waker run from a year or two ago was the gold standard for me.

I'm excited to see talos and battleblock, along with the source games. Diablo 2 is one that I'll probably be awake for anyways and have so much nostalgia for that I'll bear with the delays.

if you really like in-depth commentary explaining everything going on, duckfist had some really thorough commentary on the battle kid 2 run that just happened

also anyone wanting to catch any vod of a particular game later should know about the vods thread on reddit
