Yes, shop(s) link?

You are aware that I'm not limited to pcpartpicker? Any shop or price comparison site works.

Hi I'm currently in the process of making my first build. I am having trouble getting a boot.

I'm currently using

Intel Pentium g3258
Asus r7 270x
Raidmax semi modular 630watt psu
msi h33-p31
Kingston 1333hz 4gb
H81m-p33 mobo
Rosewill line glow case
1 TB hdd

I know for sure that the cpu, psu, gpu, hdd, and ram work because I have tested them in a pre-built dell. However since it is dell and OEM, I can't test the mobo.

I have come to the conclusion that
A. Mobo is dead
B. Case power cord isn't working
C. bios needs update to use cpu? (It worked without update on 2~ year old dell. Don't think this is issue)

How would I go about checking these things? Am I missing a possible problem? I am 95% sure I put everything together correctly.

Thanks in advance.

D. The PSU is dead. On the bright side that means it won't short out everything or start a fire. No I'm not kidding, raidmax can and has done that.

Do the paper clip test or just get a proper PSU.

Hey Setsul I'm gonna upgrade my cpu to a Skylake i5 6600k for Christmas, I plan on overclocking what ram/mobo/cooler would you recommend? Budget around $500, thanks.

None.
Australian prices.
i5-6600K - 325$
Cheapest Z170 DDR3 mobo - 179$
Total: 504$, already over budget.
Cheapest Z170 DDR4 mobo - 185$
Total: 510$, with RAM ~600$

Either way you still need a cooler.
I just don't see it happening.
Maybe if you stretch the budget and keep the 16GB DDR3 that you bought for god knows what reason.

It might get cheaper until Christmas but why are you asking know, two months before that?

The $500 doesn't include the i5, sorry should have clarified. I'm asking now so I don't have to ask later :d
I can't actually afford any of it now, but should be able to by the time Christmas comes around. #StudentLyfe

Edit: I didn't actually end up following through with the build before because of school, but I finally can upgrade now!

Hey. My friend wants to upgrade his PC for games like Battlefield 4, Fallout 4, Far Cry 4 at 60 FPS, 1920*1080.
His current:
CPU - Pentium G860
RAM - 8 GB
Mobo- Couldn't figure it out but it's prooobably not unlocked.
PSU - bad

Budget- 200 Euros

Is this possible?

Games/settings/fps you're going for?
Some streaming? As in streaming on low quality?

#759
Sorry, had to send my crystal ball in for repairs, so I can't tell you right now which mobos will be cheap or on sale around christmas. You'll just have to ask when the times comes.

#760
60fps on which settings?
No GPU? In that case I need to know which mobo exactly, if it even supports a GPU. Also mobos are never unlocked, CPUs are. Mobos got different chipsets with different features.
Could you be a bit more specific than "bad" on the PSU? If it has worked so far it can't be that bad. On the other hand even the best 150W PSU won't work anymore if you slap a 250W GPU in that pc. So "bad" isn't enough information.

Just wanted to add that it goes without saying that one could choose to ditch either the SSD or HDD and use a single stick of 8GB in order to be able to upgrade to 16GB in the future.

There's better mobos. The H110M-C is cut down pretty hard. I'm not sure why but Alientech seems to have far lower mobo prices. There's a GA-B150M-D3H for 71€. B150 instead of H100, second x16 PCIe slot, second x16 PCI slot, 6 instead of 4 SATA 3 ports, SATA Express, M.2, 4 instead of 2 DIMM slots, solves the RAM upgrade "problem".
The case is meh.
Seagate Barracuda is faster and cheaper.
I can't see any reason to get the BX100 over the 850 Evo, same price and faster.

It seems like some of these parts are cheaper in other shops.

#764
Or you know, just get a mobo with 4 DIMM slots.

Yeah sure, I just used that store because I'm used to buying stuff there and know that the customer service is rather good. You're completely right about the motherboard, case is decent, I have built in one of those, not much room but for the price is nice. And the 850 Evo in the same shop is another 10€. The seagate Barracuda is 3€ cheaper than the WD in this shop.

I just prefer buying everything from the same shop, specially since shipping from different places can add up in the budget.

Alright then what build would you recommend?

Well just change the things I mentioned and it should be fine. If you use 2 or 3 shops it should end up at the same price or cheaper.

The mobo is DDR4. There is a DDR3 version of it called GA-B150M-D3H DDR3, get the "normal" GA-B150M-D3H, which is DDR4.
The case isn't great for building and cable management and lacks dust filters.
My usual recommendations would be the Cooler Master N200. Imho it's worth the 10€ more.

1080p 60fps?
If you don't need max settings you could get away with the iGPU on Skylake.
"very little memory" as in storage? Or RAM? If the budget isn't too tight I'd say no HDDs and a 120GB SSD for OS and programs.
"long lasting" as in won't die?
What about case, PSU, peripherals?

Yes, it's plenty.

very little memory as in storage, so i think that an ssd would be the best.
long lasting as in it won't die.
doesn't really need ram.
case doesn't matter, power supply doesn't matter, and he doesn't need peripherals.

Well I'm pretty sure he needs RAM, just not much.
There are no DDR4 DIMMS <4GB so for Dual Channel you need at least 8GB anyway.

Hey Setsul, I asked Sideshow for pc advice and he sent me to you.
I'm looking to buy a pc with a budget of £700($1100), I'm willing to spend another £150($250) if its worth it and you recommend it. I also would like to mention that I'm not that educated about hardware and pc rigs in general, so sorry for my ignorance. I tried to read previous posts to find out what kind of info you need and this is what I came up with:
I dont really want to overclock.
I would like to stream a little bit for friends but nothing too heavy.
I'd like to be able to run fallout4 decently, I'm not super uptight about running everything in ultra though, but it would be nice.
I dont know at all how to pick a case and I also haven't decided on an OS, I'm not too bothered about the case looking great as long as it doesn't look terrible.
I also dont need a lot of space with my hdd, i think 1tb is enough.
I would like it to be quiet, but as long as its not loud I'm fine with that.
I'm hoping to buy it this week and I will pretty much buy the whole thing off your recommendations.
I only need the tower for now, I wouldn't mind buying a pre-built pc either; pretty much I'm just looking for the best thing I can get for my budget.

Well case and PSU are already on sale, probably won't find a better deal than that, I'm not sure if any of the rest would go on sale.

There is no such thing as "light" streaming. Streaming is always heavy on the CPU, whether you stream for 1 hour or 10. That said 720p/30fps should be doable with an i5, going beyond that (720p/60fps, 1080p/30fps or even 1080p/60fps) would be rather difficult though. So just to stream for a few friends every now and then it should be enough, I don't think shelling out the extra 54 quid for an i7 would be worth it.

Well here it is:
