HidiBonafideHonestly I am going to say this again, but this might be great time for valve to step in and help us get shadowburn to LAN since he is one of the most exciting players to watch in the game, maybe we can get their attention through hyping up a thread on reddit on /tf2 or /steam and show it to valve

This would be a cool publicity stunt and would help the tf2 (comp) community grow

Since you're interested in promoting this story, do you know how far and wide it's gone on sites like Reddit and Tumblr? If there's no posts or publicity there, why not start there if you want this promoted?

Like I said I feel like it would be better for a TLR member to post this, Herr_p made this about a month ago and it was mildly popular, however if all the lurkers on tf.tv and etf2l would help upvoting it could be reddit frontpage material

Also I literally just woke up and it's 8am, another reason I couldn't post anything

If Herr_P or another TLR member would need some help setting this post up I'd gladly help them with the write up!
add me here

I won't be in the UK or have internet access from Monday onwards, but if someone in the UK (i.e. preferably serotone or hys) rings the UK visas and immigration center on 0300 123 2241 or 0800 389 8289 (Mon-Thurs 9-4.45, Fri 9-4.30) they should ask them whether "proof of donations received to attend an event" counts as demonstrable proof that he will be able to fund himself in the UK and explains the team situation. You can also argue that he effectively earned the donations by playing the game well and practicing which might work on a technicality.

Idk if you've given sdb the money from the fundraiser already but if you pay it into his bank account as a transaction it would probably make the proof stronger. I'd also say include info about the fundraiser and the individual transactions into the account of whoever was organizing the fundraiser (HYS?).

Ond_kajaYou can't get an athletic visa for e-sports (especially less popular ones) in most places. There is no central governing body on e-sports to endorse the competitors' visa application (which is required for an athletic visa).

https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-sportsperson-worker-visa/overview

I don't know which visa he applied for but looking through the different types wouldn't a 'Permitted Paid Engagement' visa more accurately cover what he's actually going over to do? It even specifically mentions "taking part in sporting activities".

Edit: damn have to be 18+

That's why big LANs should not be hosted in countries with anal visa rules. Same problems were with visas for DOTA international but Valve is american company so they asked senator to help with it and it was resolved(also they care much more about dota). I think UK is one of the hardest EU country to get visa for. Host it in Germany or Lithuania (they already do some LANs anyway) and not only it would be easier to get a visa it would also reduce a travel/stay cost by a lot for most of the EU players.

OK, we'll very nicely ask the uk based multiplay to move their uk based lan attended by 5000+ uk residents to a country on the mainland.

To be honest if anyone who lives in the mainland has any idea of a venue that would be appropriate that would be a huge surprise. That's always the first stumbling block.

If it's a "bring your own PC" event you could possibly do it in a random school (big space, has electricity and desks). :)
Though it probably wouldn't give the same feel as the big LAN events give.

Portugal is gonna have a big kinda of video game show soon. Last year it was named Lisbon Games Week, but the only thing played was LoL and DoTA

It's not even that bad of an idea, FIL is an amazing venue with an amazing infrastructure, in one of the best locations of the city, the problem is that for example this year Lisbon Games week is in November, and for an international lan to work has to be sometime in the summer.

But Portugal definitely has it all, beaches, good weather, cheap beer, food and lodging, a lan here would be awesome and even people from europe could come by Train / Car. But as dashner said the workload that goes into putting something like this together is so massive that it just doesn't justify it, at least for now.

dashnerWe're incredibly blessed to have iSeries and it's the way to go as long as we have the option, SDB's visa issue aside.

I'm frankly surprised that an invitation from Multiplay would not be enough to get a visa. :(
Possibly, as someone mentioned before, because he is younger than 18.
