RazerArena Apologies to teams who didnt manage to get their players in on time without admin assistance. We ran in to logistics issues and couldnt assign an admin to this event to assist you. These practice events are meant for you to try out and understand the platform better, so more practice events will be scheduled over the course of the next 2 weeks as we progress toward a main event. :) To teams who had to forfeit, we apologize and hope to see you in future events! (We had a great time with the EU guys, so we're confident we'll be able to make it a success for the TF2 NA community too. :D) |

Bucakeso will this run through a razer (software) client in the end?

Nope, just a web browser to check in and connect to the server.

I'm pretty impressed by this for being made by people that don't know anything about comp TF2. Hopefully tonight doesn't dissuade people from playing in the future because I think it could be a great platform.

Also the "Request Admin Assistance" button on the match page is something I wish ESEA had.

Yeah. The EU games went more smoothly so future NA ones will be just as good. They were listening to our feedback and all that, so I see this going places.

I vaguely remember hearing someone say they're going to implement stats "somewhere down the road"

Also,

RazerArena 23:19 4/7/2015
noted on fade to black, everyone seems to hate it xD

RazerArena 23:19 4/7/2015
we'll be removing that

Lookin forward to the next tournament :)

Dont take this the wrong way. But the tf2 community seems complacent. Everyone wants support from other organizations, then when we get it every one gets hyped and says "we esports boys". Then no one actually joins.

ie mlg and now this. Plus cevo & that other league that popped up at the same time and flopped harder than cevo.

I made a post of r/truetf2 about it, hopefully it should help.

Also, wouldn't it be cool if there was a small ticker like thing on TFTV's frontpage showing all open events/tourneys? Even r/tf2 has something similar:

Not to mention ESL and ESA gamer. What I find surprising is you don't have the top teams signing up to pilot something, give the event more...hype.

I agree. It serves as an alternative to ESEA (there may have been many) but in Australia there really hasn't been one for a very long time if you exclude ATF2L. With the relatively separate seasons in Australia, this is huge and it baffles me that the signups aren't over instantly. It's pretty much a one night cup, and how great are those!

Yeah, I feel like this is less NA complacency and more just bad timing. I know I'd also love to play but I have to scrim as well.

My team is signed up and ready to play, but I don't think it's too much to ask to use this as a scrim night. If my ESEA team we're still playing I'd want them to play here

You only play other good teams if good teams sign up

?

we played in the last one because it was on the weekend and gave a lot of feedback to the admins

seeing as how invite playoffs are just around the corner we decided to sit this one out and keep scrimming

if it wasnt another dry run practice tournament things might be different

feel free to pug it up and have a good time, honestly its all pretty well done outside of LA servers and maps from 5 years ago

I'm trying to get my team to sign up for this, but I feel like people on active teams would much prefer to play on friday/saturday rather than on scrim days.

Seems silly that they have an hour gap between matches, and a 3 round win limit. I think Razer was told that this needed to changed so I'm not sure why it didn't.

Also I'm told the screen still fades to black when you die.

Played in it tonight with a dogs.tf mix. Few things I need to point out.

1. With 1 hour gaps between each match and a score limit of 3 rounds it can make games very short the wait for the next game really long. This could be fixed by allowing teams to play their next match right after they finished the previous one when both teams have readied up (or see number 4).

2. The version of process they are using is "B4". I have no idea how they managed to even get that. I have never played it and didn't know it existed. Its not even the official version valve use and i'm not sure if its even been used in competitive play before.

3. Servers are all on Netherlands. Would be nice to see a variety of servers as some people don't get good ping to Netherlands.

4. I think maybe the admins should just use the ETF2L rules for a timelimit and win difference. This would mean that teams can actually come back from games instead of losing the whole match cause they lost 3 rounds at the start. Also you wouldn't have to wait for like an hour between each match. If there is no time limit then games might go on for a really long time so it makes it hard for the admins to set a time for the next match. This is why I think that a 30 minute time limit is the best option.

5. And finally there are a few minor bugs that could use fixing (for example when you die you aren't able to spectate your team, you can only see a black screen).

It definitely needs some changes for it to work but I think this has got a lot of potential.

Hello All,

I wanted to touch base and keep everyone in the loop. Firstly thank you all for the great discussion and feedback, we have been taking in every bit of it.

We have a dedicated mod team for source mod; this has allowed us to develop our custom mod for CS:GO, TF2 and Dota 2. With that said we have the ability to do many things with TF2.

Listening to everyone discuss the rules, it seems that ETF2L is the desired format and so that is what we will be adopting as the official Razer Arena format.

6v6 is to include KotH and CP nothing more.
Configs, whitelists, and map cycle will be matched.

This means that any event ran on Razer Arena will utilize this setup.

It is likely that we will work on a method to allow organizers to edit their configs, but for now ETF2L will be the de facto.

We are discussing logs.tf and saloon.tf - I have no announcement on either as of yet.

Thanks to everyone's feedback in the practice events we have identified a few areas which need attention.

  • Fade to black on death -- I believe this is a config issue and will be corrected once we dive into ETF2L configs.
  • In game ready not working for last player to join -- Our mod team will be looking into this to correct the issue.
  • Time between matches -- We were basing initial round timing on the CS:GO structure as that was where our experience was derived for this platform. We will have to adjust the timing for the current practice events, and will likely have to do so again for the new events under the ETF2L rules. Bare with us as we work through this.

Some have suggested that we allow matches to be played as soon as both opponents have been identified for the next round. The issue with this is that it forces you to sit in front of your computer with out any real gauge as to when the next match will be. We don't want you sitting there spam clicking the refresh button to see if check in has become available. It would just be better if we got our match timing down and it would be a non issue.

The final issue I would like to discuss is servers. Currently Our server pool is Japan, Australia, Netherlands, and North America East and West. We are looking to expand upon this list, but we need to find the right server providers with the right equipment, that will provide the desired level of access. We apologize to those experiencing higher pings in our EU events, do know we are working to correct that as well.

Thanks again all!
