Via the Steam store:

Valve- Announcing the Maps Workshop Beta!
- Check out the blog post for more information
- Added bsp_repack command to repack a BSP file with optimal compression
- Maps uploaded to the workshop are automatically compressed
- Added tf_workshop_refresh command to recheck tracked workshop maps and refresh subscriptions
- Added tf_workshop_map_sync command to immediately install a map from the workshop by ID
- Added sv_allow_point_servercommand to disable point_servercommand entities. Defaults to "official" Valve maps only. Can also be set to "disallow" and "always".

Rumor has it:

- Maps that use commands to spawn stuff such as tr_walkway may be broken after this update as several people are reporting this is the case

- There was an item schema update late last week that erroneously changed the Strange quality name to "restriction" and Community to "map", this was silently corrected in another item schema update

This is really, really good for competitive.

A workshop map will fastdownload on any server. So playing the latest versions of custom maps will be made a lot easier.

i cant see how thats gonna change anything, people will just be grumpy about every new map and we're gonna end up playing the same ~8 maps that we have for the past couple of years (at least in eu)

Yo it seems current versions of tr_walkway and tyler_rocket_shooting and such are broken as of this update; bots don't spawn on them. Have checked this with a couple people, ain't just me.

You should be able to fix it with sv_allow_point_servercommand.

I was chatting with Fishbus a month ago on his stream and we speculated in a map workshop for TF2. He's been sitting on an update to cp_freight which he sent to valve along with a new payload-map ( pl_goldrock ) without getting much of a response. We might be looking at better incentives for map makers now!
