Uploaded the HUD files from this just in case anybody was looking for them for anything.
https://github.com/omnibombulator/TF2-Base-HUD-2007
I couldn't find anything useful myself but who knows.

ComangliaeeeGetawhaleAloSecIt sounds interesting but every thing promised is completely doable with current server/client mods (and without illegally (?) downloading the game)
I bought this game, I can do what I want
i dont think u understand copyright law

It's perfectly legal to download a game for free, if you've already paid for it. Distributing it though is quite different which if you torrent and seed for even a second you're technically a distributor.

Right. If I paid for a game, I can download a ripped version a million times. eee seems to be the one that doesn't understand copyright law.

in what way is downloading an extra copy of a game not piracy?
please explain

This isn't at all like saying "I bought bread from the local supermarket once, that means I can legally take all the bread I want."
When you buy a game, you're essentially purchasing the right to use that data. Because it's data and not a physical object, then it doesn't matter where you get it (well, mostly), you still have the right to use it.

I thought the law was you had to rip it yourself (creating your own backups) and not share it with anyone, then it's legal.

If you download a copy off the internet it's illegal. No one cares though and there's a lot of grey areas in this topic.

Ethically maybe, legally no. That's not how American laws work according to the NYT.

It seems you are correct. While US copyright law does provide for creating a backup copy of a piece of software, that does not apply in the same way if you are downloading a copy somebody else made.

This has piqued my interest now and I'm going to email Valve out of curiosity and see what their view on it is.

Sorry, I never meant to derail the shit out of this

Honestly valve is a pretty open company and TF2 is already F2P, so long as the people who are giving this out are not profiting than I think valve would be cool with it, but idk.

i think it would be pretty cool to run a few pugs or whatever on it, if only for nostalgic reasons. completely forgot about sniper quickswitch and lack of 200ms rule!

the soldier will also be better at close range too, right? shouldn't take full self damage or something like that.

When someone will hack the servers using game exploits that were fixed years ago, and then download malicious files on every client that connect to the servers (or even delete windows files), I'm not sure people will keep playing this.

eeein what way is downloading an extra copy of a game not piracy?

No parrots, a lack of plank walking, fleshy hands instead of hooks, and a healthy diet preventing scurvy. Admittedly TF2 does have similar hats and treasure chests, but they're not in this version.

Or were you thinking of Somalians?

smobodxlevel 81 with chris' highframes as they are today

2007 BUILD
662 fps

2014 BUILD - i made the settings more equal, and removed the 3d hud character
704 fps

Thats interesting actually but it doesn't say much if you take in consideration 2007 tf2 had 0 extra items and 2014 tf2 has literally over 1000 different items and particles, which are the ones causing severe optimization issues.

but you're forgetting to take into consideration any and all performance improvements valve may have put in the past 7 years.

maybe it was enough to offset the performance loss from extra items?

it's not an accurate test either way, just pointing that out.

mat_queue_mode 2/multithreaded rendering wasn't a thing back in 2007

you have to keep in mind that the test was done on a comp thats good for 2014 no way in HELL could a decent comp form 7 years ago could hope to pull 600+ fps

interesting test to see would be a flyover of a map (well is the same as launch I think) and use bot commands to get a full 23 man server creating as many particles/projectiles as possible, and comparing frame rate

can't really test hats too much, but i'd assume that the 2014 build would offer better performance with all the threading commands and stuff

i think there are plugins to give bots hats but i dont think that'd be a good test

Tino, fps is fps. it's the same PC so what you're saying is irrelevant. you test that 2007 PC and you'll see the same relative performance between the two game versions.

Dave_, mat_queue_mode 2 works in both, but causes crashes occasionally in 2007 mode.

yeah im not saying the performance would differ on the two i just find it interesting that the game is actually alot more optimized then it was in 07, even though it still feels like a potato is running it 90% of the time

well, i think you'd have to connect to a VAC secured server to be VAC banned, and you can't really do that
