soreness or stiffness of the wrist and hands can happen easily to a PC gamer in general, what do you guys do to relieve this? Does it affect your performance in TF2?

If I ever encountered this my first instinct would probably be to play less.

Yeah if I ever get to the point where I am experiencing pain from a video game I generally stop. In one of my charity things (which I played for 24 hours) it started hurting around hour 18. I stood up, did some stretches (body, hands, arms, etc), and the pain mostly went away.

If you're experiencing pain from playing video games for any less than 6-7 hours straight you may have something wrong with your wrists that you should get checked out. If you play more than 7 hours straight... consider taking breaks.

I move my mouse with my arm so I don't usually have problems with my wrist. Also, I make sure that my arm is elevated so I'm not pressing it against the table/applying too much force.

If this becomes a serious issue, consult a doctor or take an extended break from the game. I had a friend destroy his wrist in high school playing stepmania.

If you play to the point where your hand is in pain, you might want to find a different activity in the meantime - don't get obsessed. If you don't want to stop playing, reduce your time to about 30 minutes to and hour a day.

You could invest in a wrist brace (nightly or full-time) if the condition becomes chronic. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can become a persistent problem if left untreated, and can start from something as simple as the repetitive movements made by using your mouse.

For right now ibuprofen will help with the swelling and pain, and try not to put any significant weight on it.

welp 30mins of ammomod makes my wrist hurt and kills any incentive to play for me. started happening years ago and found it easier to just play different games

only playing the busier heroes for like 10hrs in dota causes me pain for example

I went to the doctor for my mouse hand going numb, turns out it wasn't carpal tunnel (yet), but it was still an inflamed nerve in my wrist from playing too much vidya. The solution literally turned out to be play less video games and take more frequent breaks.

I use WorkRave, which has an adjustable timer for taking periodic breaks to avoid this sort of thing from happening.

If your case is similar to mine, change your posture.

A few months ago I aimed like this, my posture has always been horrible but it was only 3-4 months ago I started having horrible wrist pain after long sessions, so I commited myself to change my posture and going from kind of a wrist aim to arm aim (changed my sens and everything). Since I have adapted (the first weeks were hard to adapt), I have felt 0 wrist pain even after prolonged sessions and my aim didn't really suffer.

I felt if I had kept going with that posture for a couple more months I would have some serious wrist injuries by now, Im glad I changed it

The only game that actually gives me wrist pain is TFC due to the constant bunnyhopping/spastic mouse movement in that game.

As other people have stated, just stop playing. Regular breaks with stretches are good idea to help decrease the likelihood of this happening. Correct posture is good, too.

I had to stop playing games for a LONG time - mine got to the point where i lost feeling in my fingers (thumb through middle finger) and i still dont have feeling in the tips of those fingers. The pain eventually went down (wrist braces at night and no games since i had to type at work) and I had to get some cortisone shots to get through work.

Gaming isnt worth not being able to work. Take breaks often and move your fkin wrists around. I got my wrist braces from a hand doctor ($$$) and those really helped at night but I think that was also because i slept on my wrists funky. I dont have much advice to give on how to prevent this since I did everything you shouldnt do but yeah. Feel better <3

You want your wrist to be inline with your arm. Put your elbow on your desk and lay your hand onto the mouse. This is the ergonomically easiest on your body way to hold onto the mouse, you can re-adjust the position but try avoid bending at the wrist.

Here's some stretches you can do before/after/during play from day9

maybe I just need to arm aim, but how do you do that? Like you do levitate your arm over the mousepad or something?

you might just have a weird angle (I'm guessing you don't play a million hours of tf2 based on your hours)

try to elevate/lower your chair/keyboard or maybe try shifting it left and right to get a more comfortable position

I am literally experiencing a very similar thing right now.

The one thing that has really alleviated the pain is making sure my wrist and forearm is at an even angle with the desk while playing (i.e. lower your chair) and also using my shoulder for bigger movements has helped as well.

Also play less and possibly get a wrist brace as klanana suggested.

Have you ever broke any bone in your wrist or hand? Before my car accident, I could play MGE (then ammomod) for awhile but after it, I can't play for more than 10 mins. SOAP is better since you are not tracking the same target all the time. I think the best advice is to just accept your limits, and quit when it hurts. Generally, during matches and scrims, you aren't tracking 24/7 like MGE. So if it hurts, there may be a problem that you should get checked out.
