Help with raging

So I've been dealing with anger issues for as long as I can remember. Of course this translates to gaming as well. This is incredibly frustrating for me since right now I have a burning desire to improve, but I'll get mad at myself whenever I mge/lobby. I used to slam my hand into my keyboard, but that broke recently, so I'm forced to use the keyboard on my laptop. This means I cant slam my keyboard anymore without running a huge risk of breaking my pc. I know slamming my keyboard is not a very good way of getting out with my anger. So, do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to suppress/deal with my anger?

go for a run
exercise

or get a stress ball or something to do with your hands rather than pounding/throwing things

i've personally never used these, but i feel like instead of getting mad, you should get busy instead

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baoding_balls

think of the positives you are doing instead of the negatives and remember that you should be having fun

no point in playing games if they just make you angry enough to break your stuff lol

take a break from the game or accept that everyone messes up, and messing up is part of improving.

Do the slam jam instead of the keyboard slam

EDIT: Honestly though I get mad at games easily and I found listening to chill music and stretching helps.

Read through this first, if you haven't already:

http://teamfortress.tv/forum/thread/12754-i-get-too-angry-depressed-when-we-get-rolled

There's some fairly good insight into raging and how to control it. As far as your particular case goes, if the raging only happens during an mge or a lobby, put on some relaxing music while you practice, get comfortable before you start, or do something that will make you more relaxed (I typically do a run in Animal Crossing 'cause that game's chill as fuck). If you prefer to let it out physically, get a stress ball to squeeze between lobbies and mge matches and watch a funny video or something. Another thing I used to do is to have a pillow on hand that I could throw a punch or two into. The key is to not let it get the best of you.

I realize some people may use TF2Lobby as a way to improve, and while it can help to an extent, the most someone's going to get out of it is learning the very basics of competitive TF2, whether HL or 6s. Take TF2Lobby lightly. It's not the pug/way to improve tool it was meant to be. MGE, though can be irritating, is a reasonable tool to improve, though only to an extent. If MGE is getting to you, take a break.

If your desire to improve is as much as you say it is, try DM servers when they're not dead and add up to #tf2.pug.na or #tf2mix. That's the most you can do outside of scrims.

In terms of getting rid of your anger, I would advise you to stop playing once it gets to the point where you for your PC's life. You know what helps? Showering. Showering is such a relief when you're stressed/angry about anything. Basically doing anything other than being at your computer or playing games, but showers are great.

Come live in Brazil, where the least problem is you. Nothing works here (transport, education, health system, security, etc) so you'll get so mad at things and you'll realize that you are actually good (compared to the rest). We have the best & cheapest food, the best chicks, drugs are almost legal here, and everybody is receptive (if u have money). And yes, we have a tf2 community but everybody sucks and you will be good and noticed here...

Why are you hitting things when getting upset at a video game? You should have a different way to cope with anger. If the anger is something you are having a real problem with though, and its not just from playing video games, I suggest you seek professional help. You may have certain issues that you may have overlooked that may not even be your own fault. Best of luck with your problems :)

cut down on the amount you play mge/lobby; if you play it most of your time, you'll get too emotionally attached to it (when i've overdone it i start getting shakey and intimidated rofl) and start getting mad very easily. nothing to be ashamed about, it happens to everyone. i can say from experience, i broke a monitor before lol. so yeah, just detach yourself from it, play it a couple of times a week or something, you'll even notice you'll play much better when you're relaxed and have had a good break. hope this helps :)

i used to get mad at tf2 a lot, then i quit and i dont get mad anymore. these stress reducing things work but until you become an overall less angry person you're just going to have to try a lot harder to control your emotions in scrims. no one wants to play with a rager. also dont get mad at your team thats an easy way for people to really dislike playing with you, get mad at things like the map and the enemy team for thinking theyre better than you, because they arnt.

I always feel like if someone is getting that mad at TF2, they are taking it way too seriously. A hobby should never get you so upset that you're breaking things. Compared to the hardships of life, gaming should be something that is fun, not something that makes your life more stressful.

instead of getting angry with yourself or raging at others just take a second look at what happened and ask yourself "what happened there? what could i have done better?" self reflection is going to be what helps you the most in competitive gaming in general. also weed.

Regular meditation can be pretty helpful in keeping you chill and concentrated. There are lots of webapps (eg smilingmind, buddhify and some others) that can help you to get started.

I visited Tanzania last year and ever since my life has changed.

I saw what some of the kids there are going through everyday to survive. After that, my perspective on life changed. I rarely get mad anymore at anything because I know there's people out there that have it far worse off than I do. Let's be honest - playing poorly in a video game isn't that bad in comparison to some of the other shit that goes on in our world.

Obviously, I'm not saying just to jump on a plane and fly to a third-world country; but maybe read a book, or watch a documentary about it. If you take it the right way, you'll realize that your life isn't that bad, and there's always a positive to every situation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmtvcJZKXrw
