Picking a class

Of the three main damage classes of 6v6, which seems to be in the most demand for low level teams? I would say my DM in all three is equal and want to pick one to focus on for offline training so that when I leave my uni hall of residence in 1.5 months and once again have internet back home, I would have a good chance of joining a team.
Edit: I enjoy playing all three, so enjoyment of the class isn't a problem

Play whatever you love playing the most, ultimately you're going to be better at what you love doing.

I'd say demoman is the class I see the least amount of LFT threads for. I could be wrong but I would say demo is your best bet. But play what you enjoy/think you'll be good at.

Good medics are scarce, along with demo. Soldiers and scouts are a dime a dozen though. You won't get much out of offline-practicing. You've gotta stick with the online scene and be studying behaviors and successful patterns of play. Your best bet is medic if you just study games enough by downloading some demos before you go to your Hall. The most you can do offline is practice your rollouts on each class, and overall mobility. Get a surf map pack and then play around, get used to air strafing and mouse control. As for rocket jumping/sticky jumping, getting from 1 point to the next in a timely fashion is necessary to execute plays and end rounds smoothly. Arriving fast means better follow ups on communication and trickier plays.

If you enjoy all the classes, take into account your aim style and positional placement to decide what you want to play

Tommunistthe most needed classes isn't consistant across scenes, and it depends on different trends and what level you're playing at!

So look at ozfortress or something and see what the common LF posts by low level teams are?

Hmmm I once considered playing medic, any medics here who find it rewarding/fun? And I suppose if I wanted to play other classes could just pug them.

Good meds in low divisions are rare, probably because if you're a good med (relatively speaking) you will get frustrated playing with people who are bad and are constantly out of position. Nothing worse than dying and knowing there's nothing you could've done and it was a result of someone else's mistake.

The most important thing is play with people that you like and get along with. Sticking together is the best way to improve, team hopping will get you nowhere.

Medic is a self rewarding classes. Not most people notice what a good medic can do to carry a team. Luckly my team knows what i do for them to succeed. Probably my best feeling ever is getting a 4k as med and saving last.

I'd also say that good low div meds get moved up fairly quickly because good meds are also hard to find in higher divs.

The2DollarHookerHmmm I once considered playing medic, any medics here who find it rewarding/fun? And I suppose if I wanted to play other classes could just pug them.

From when I had about 100 hours I decided I wanted to play med. The thing I've noticed, as Jas pointed out, is that you have to get on with your team if you want to enjoy playing it. If there's not a lot of chemistry between you guys, they'll get mad at you a lot more which never helps the attitude in a group.

Play
Medic: If you can't hit shit (If you can aim needles you're already mid+, chasing scouts and roamer will be destroyed by you)
Soldier: If you enjoy a challenge and like playing rock/paper/scissors with rockets
Demoman: If you like doing the most damage by spamming stickies
Scout: If you like playing the cheapest/most overpowered/easiest class in the game
Pyro: If you're looking to CHANGE THE META

if you're gonna do offline practice for an extended period of time, don't forget to use net_fakelag to simulate online play
make sure you have all the common comp maps (rollout practice) and several tr_ maps in case you get bored of walkway (tr_aim, tr_rocket_shooting)
maybe some jump maps in case you pick demo or soldier

I didn't really play Medic over the level of Division 3, but it really depends on your teammates in my opinion.
If you have teammates that are capable of hitting their shots when needed most, then you'll enjoy playing Medic everytime you play with them and it definitely is rewarding to play Medic; you're pretty much the key to success, so if you do well alongside your teammates who protect you properly, you'll win.
Just be alright with the fact that you're the unappreciated hero of the team, since not many people give a lot of credit to Medics, even if they play out of their mind.

Having played both Medic and Scout, I'd say that my experience on Medic was so much more fun.

I'm not sure about the Australian scene, but here's my result for looking at the first page of the NA recruiting forums for 6v6

Medic = 7 threads
Roamer = 3 threads
Demo = 2 threads
Pocket = 2 threads
Scout = 6 threads

Small sample size, but I can confirm as a former team leader that scout is in more demand than you'd think. There's a couple reasons

1. There are 2 scouts on a team. Even though there are also 2 soldiers there is only one of each "role" (roamer and pocket). On the other hand, there's rarely a distinction between "agro" and "passive" scout in recruiting.
2. The other classes are a little easier to shift around. Many demomen make good soldiers and vice-versa. There are pockets who make good medics since they understand the dynamics of the combo. It's harder to shift scouts to other classes and vice-versa.

As others have said, good medics are rare and few people want to play the class in 6v6 to begin with so obviously there's going to be a lot of demand for them.

if you're looking for a pretty important role though most will say its not, i'd get into roaming. i personally think its the most fun because you can go for tricky plays or play safe, you basically can make openings for your team. the only dm you need is to shoot rockets at your feet since its roamer, but its really fun and enjoyable

Pick whatever you want. Trust me, you will get bored of playing the same class over and over every season and will change to something else anyways.
