If they use the b4nny ruleset b4nny will switch and therefore the rest of the community will. Opportunity to undercut RGL's glacial pace when it comes to implementing any changes to how 6s is played. Could also implement any of the comp fixes that RGL couldn't be fucked to.

Sidularwhile I can’t say what my expected ROI or investment will be, I can at least disclose that I expect for it to be in the triple digits.

Is triple digits not a lot, or am I misunderstanding this?

150% would be a good ROI. But if the actual investment is small then it could still be a small ROI.

Oh ok I thought the triple digits was referring to the investment since it said ROI or investment and then talked about digits

Would love to see another league ran by a business with the intent of making competitive tf2 profitable and exciting rather than stagnant.

Didn't CEVO splitting the community stall a ton of momentum TF2 had in like 2014? ESEA had just gotten so big that they needed to add another div.
A bunch of people decided to play there and then no one signed up for the 2nd season so they killed it

On paper, this doesn't seem like that bad of an idea, but I feel like this will walk a very tight line between success and failure. Good luck nonetheless

Sidular5. All of the previously announced features, such as our PUG system, server automation, scrim automation, etc, will be provided day one.

I hope you're not underestimating the amount of programming work this will be to pull off.

While I think RGL has a lot of huge problems, I really agree with the sentiment here.

RGL kinda sucks but it’s not catastrophically unusable, would rather see RGL be improved to a point where we are happy with it than start a whole new thing

One really solid league with good support, prizes and consistent lans would be the ticket. If TFCL made stuff like ultiduo, 4s and (god I wish) bball, with actual prizes without matches conflicting with RGL officials, I would see some serious longevity in it, the addition of 6s cups or even hl, when RGL isn’t doing them would be a nice addition too. I just honestly worry about conflicting map pools / match dates with two different leagues going, that itself would split the player base and create some conflict.

hannah...would rather see RGL be improved to a point where we are happy with it than start a whole new thing

The only problem I have with there being one league is that it gives too much power to control its player base. A person getting banned for a minor non-cheating offense on RGL means they just can't play comp TF2 unless they want to resort to ringing or pugging. If your demo is banned for three months for whatever reason, you're not going to keep scrimming with him and then find a ringer for matches. You'll just find a new demo.

If the bans were limited to cheating, horrible behavior, or other things that the community can agree, "Yeah, we don't want this dude who keeps DDoSing teams to stick around in comp TF2, fuck him, gatekeep him the fuck out" it'd be one thing. But a lot of cool people get caught in the crosshairs with demo bans and casting bans, and we've had many threads about this before. And those aren't the things that you can fix by throwing money at them.

You're forgetting about a tiny problem there: Who would be in charge?
Like, how does one go about "investing in RGL"?
Because I don't see Sidular throwing 20k USD at sigafoo every season while just hoping that sigafoo will actually use them for what sidular wants them to be used.
On the flipside, I don't see sigafoo letting himself be bought out and losing control. Not that I think it would be worth it, considering the baggage RGL comes with.

And I commend you for seeing a world where it's possible that sidular and sigafoo will be happy co-owners making all decisions unanimously, but I really doubt it's going to happen. It's not even going to be something philosophical like sigafoo wanting to push anything but 6s (and insisting it must be called traditional 6s, because of all the other successful 6s formats), it'll start with the simplest things like charging 20$ to join a team vs paying 150$ to all staff members.
Being willing to operate at a loss vs collecting "LAN sustainability fees" for a LAN that might happen eventually, at some point, any second now, are just fundamentally incompatible views on how a league should be run.

I'm also still baffled by how some people's first reaction to someone announcing they'll throw money at the community in a way the chose is "Noooo, don't do that, better give that money to someone we complain about incessantly."
