Good afternoon tftvers, I am in Midtown Mannhattan for a week or so to see some wonderful gamers.
Have you ever been? Did you find a good place for food + a view? I'll take pictures of what I do and drop em here :)

EDIT 1/10: I'm most likely going again when it's warmer, like in May, so feel free to keep the protips comin :)

my brother lives in NYC and it is me and my husband's fav vacation. lotta stuff is in flux right now, given that nyc is currently "flattening its curve" on the wrong axis :/

anywhere with 4+ stars on google or yelp that's been open for a while is worth going to, but here's some stuff that has stuck out to me in particular in midtown/ lower manhattan:

  • supermoon bakehouse for baked goods (be ready for a line)
  • jack's wife freda for breakfasty/brunchy stuff
  • getting drinks at stonewall is cool (and really easy any time that pride isnt happening)
  • empanada mama in hells kitchen is great for late night drunk food
  • contra for fancy dinner (carte blanche was insane when i went)
  • 9/11 memorial & one world trade is really beautiful
  • tenement museum is the best museum experience i've ever had. very cool.
  • if you have a day or three to kill, ride up to and walk around the met
  • if you want to see EVERYTHING, the tour buses can't be beat. swallow your pride and enjoy yourself.
  • not technically midtown but walk around in central park

ily spades be safe and have ur vax card at the ready :)

edit OH YEAH if you like artichoke dip, you need to try artichoke basille's pizza. avoid if even remotely lactose intolerant.

try some halal street food
central park is pretty, I like the 'conservatory garden' but just go anywhere
ride the subway if you haven't already you'll probably run into freestyle dancers or mariachi bands or something like that
grand central station has really cool architecture
don't go to the empire state building the 'Top of The Rock' has a better view
nyc probably has the best bagels so maybe go to a bagel shop. I live in texas now and all I want is a poppy seed bagel and they are nowhere to be found
don't go to the statue of liberty. instead take the staten island ferry which is free. better view of the statue of liberty and lower manhattan. also near china town

best authentic NYC bagel = baker's dozen bagels in kew gardens, queens
for best NY pizza go to johns on carmine st in the greenwich village
both of these are not in midtown but pretty easily accessible and it is 100% worth seeing downtown and the outer boroughs tbh

hope this isn't too late:

- don't spend too much time in Midtown besides seeing the major sights (Empire State, Rockefeller, Grand Central, etc). there will be better restaurants/culture elsewhere
- you can buy an unlimited weekly MetroCard at the machines in the subway for like ~$30 and get pretty much anywhere you need to using the subway/buses. use your phone for directions and it'll make everything super easy (which line(s) to take, walking directions to stations, etc.)
- highly recommend spending a few hours at the Met, there are a lot of museums in NYC but this is the holy grail. go at night on Fridays or Saturdays for a really cool late night museum vibe. hit up MoMA as well if you're more into art or want to see specific pieces that aren't at the Met
- for a cheap quick meal I'd highly recommend Halal Guys, it's open late and by Radio City Music Hall/quick walk to Central Park. there's like 4 different food carts but don't be fooled, the one on the SW corner of 53rd Street hits different
- for a very good & reasonably priced Italian dinner Il Melograno on 51st never disappoints
- walk around the Village for a bit at sunset into the night for a cool experience. check out John's on Bleeker as another poster recommended for great pizza, they don't do slices though. Joe's Pizza in the Village is a classic and unfortunately touristy spot for a slice, and there's better, but it's still quite good and you definitely won't go wrong
- Xi'an Famous Foods for a good quick lunch spot, they're all over the city
- Pizza Loves Emily in the West Village for a great burger + a lot more. might want to reserve ahead
- Chelsea Market + High Line walk like someone else recommended. good way to spend an afternoon. Los Tacos No.1 probably has the best authentic Mexican tacos in Manhattan
- if you want a nice rooftop view of Manhattan you can go to Westlight in Brooklyn. I don't believe they have a cover charge like a lot of rooftop bars in the city if you are money conscious

if you have any q's hit me up

I wanted to thank you all again for the passion put into sharing your experiences. I had a wonderful time doing things by myself and with fellow friends I met through this game, it was unforgettable and now it's becoming a repeat destination. I know I said I would upload pictures, unfortunately, I went to the Celtics game Saturday night and my phone was stolen. I'm pretty sure I sent and saved a decent chunk of them to a friend over snap, so if I remember to post some after activating my old phone, I'll do so.

Ramen Ishida - their regular shoyu is really good if you like truffle, also have a classic 80s if you dont, pork bun is prob my fav ive ever had tbh
Tonchin - michelin guide, pretty good tsukemen if you wanna try that but smoked dashi is way better, good apps + drinks too but it's really hard to get good dinner reservations here so either plan a bit ahead or go for lunch/wonky ass dinner time
Karakatta - menu looks really westernized but the owner of this also owns a michelin star ramen restaurant in japan, only been here once and had the miso butter and it was good, wasnt a fan of the buns i had though
Nonono - focused on yakitori but they have alright shoyu options too, also do udon and some other stuff but ive never tried it

been recd some other spots outside of manhattan by people who know more than me lmk if u want those as well

Tasheem picked up Drake and I from the Nets game we went to and took us here, its about a 5 min drive from Barclays.
It was quiet and incredible, Thx again sheem

https://puu.sh/ICa1g/664eb5d559.jpg

I also went to Abiko Curry that has a noodle selection in Midtown (W32nd and 5th) which was incredible. Thanks Gabe for the pickup.
I'll post more pics soon, I remembered I was asked to post them in a discord during my trip so I recovered about 90% of the pictures/videos I would've hated to lose.

Tons of amazing electronic shows happening in NYC this weekend, circoloco, oden/fatzo at musica, etc. just check out RA. For food habibi is a cool new spot, winson bakery, birds of a feather in williamsburg is probably my favorite chinese spot. Lucalis pizza is really good, bagel pub for the mornings, i'm sort of centralized to Brooklyn now cause i've got a spot there as of recent, if theres a specific type of food you're looking for lmk
