How do you aim effectively and why (on scout)?

Recently I started to realize that my aiming style is really retarded and makes me miss a lot. So I try to practice DM more often but I end up screwing up easy flicks or easily losing track of people even after 30m-1h of warmup/practice. What I do is I try to track and then before I shoot I do a small flick if needed to close the gap between me and the enemy. Sometimes I randomly flick to the right for some reason (idk why) and in general my right flicks are more consistent than my left ones. my sens is 20cm/360 and I can't find a consistent arm placement on my table.

someones gonna say "ooga booga just click oon the peoples its histcan n0b" but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

put xhair on people, then click, make sure xhair is on person
edit:: low sens use arm, high sens use wrist

I've found a combination of aiming styles is most efficient, just takes time to learn them and apply them IMO. You should be able to be good at flicking, tracking, aiming with movement, etc. and know when to apply them in specific situations.

its different for everyone

i just slow things down in my head and it makes everything easier

dont put any emphasis on sensitivity because it doesnt matter so long as youre comfortable with whatever. u can be good with a 40 inch sens and a 4 inch sens it doesnt matter

its got nothing to do with flicks or arm placement or tracking or anything like that

if you play something aim intensive and then approach it with the mindset that its experimental and the result doesnt matter, like quake clan arena, then eventually you work out what works for you. its just trial and error

asking this kind of shit on the forums is meaningless cause we all are aiming differently and got to whatever level we are at differently and it just depends on how u plau

Stop worrying about your aim and play the game. Aim is more your positioning and movement rather than your raw aiming ability so dming and mgeing can only take you so far. Those are for warming up and staying sharp, not for actually improving your game. Just make sure your mouse and sens are comfortable, and most importantly stay relaxed. Tensing up makes you miss and can also and lead to carpel tunnel.

Overall, just play the game. Aim is big but positioning and focusing the right targets is vastly more important than hitting every shot, and as you play the game you'll improve your aim. You cant really think your way through aiming, just practice.

I can give you one piece of advice that can stop lazy aim (your crosshair lagging behind the target), once I started doing this I began hitting many more shots, keep your eyes on your opponent not on your crosshair, make sure you are focusing on the movement of the player and they are your "lock" at this point relax, let your muscle memory take over and allign them with the center of your screen, when you start looking at the crosshair you will notice your accuracy dip.

edit : using a smaller / less distracting crosshair really helped with this

Focus on your movement instead. It will serve you better in the long run.

Aim will come, and focusing on your aim all the time will bring you frustration and stop you thinking about the game and decision making.

A list of tips:

  • Make sure every shot does 30 damage at least, if it's going to do less then take your time and have the patience to go for a better shot
  • Position yourself to make hitting things easier; stay on high ground and when coming around corners have your crosshair placed correctly
  • Don't aim against your movement, let it help you
  • Some of scout is click timing; putting your crosshair in the right place and clicking when the target is there
  • Some of scout is tracking; using your pistol to track players
  • Use a sens your comfortable with
  • Arm aiming doesn't mean you never use your wrist and wrist aiming doesn't mean you never use your arm.
