That's not happening to me when I use the sidebar. That message was happening for people using types of adblockers about a month or so ago.

twitch has inherited all of Amazons cold user-hating megacorp policies yet none of its massive megacorp infrastructure

still to this day cannot load a 30 second twitch clip on mobile chrome in under 3 minutes (gigabit internet, iphone 11)

streams crash or freeze even more often than they used to, only now i have to watch two 30 second ads when i refresh

This just start happening to me as well. I was using an adblocker that was blocking ads, removing it fixes the issue. Wait until there is another chrome extension released on the down low.

probably to directly combat against twitchls as people were using that site to avoid the "unavoidable" ads

Pretty sure that's because when twitch was made it was made without that huge massive megacorp infrastructure that it now has...

which adblocker are you using? uBo + interception script have been doing okay for me at blocking ads and annoying stuff, but the stream can get a bit weird sometimes

twitch has become progressively more and more awful it's actually depressing, and it seems like it's only accelerated more and more with mixer dead, youtube remaining a horribly incompetent faction of google, and seemingly no other competent competitor in the industry (unless you include the one owned by tencent LMAO)

that doesn't fix it, unless the extension gets updated with another workaround

I'm referring to the in-player ads that have been bypassing ublock.

lol they fixed the extension literally as I posted it. You had to watch the stream on twitch's home site but I really don't see how twitch think they can win this war. Ads are aids

idk about y'all but i think it's very inmoral for us to not turn off our adblockers, iirc amazon and jeff bezos are almost bankrupt and i feel like we should really support hard working american companies

I mean realistically the issue isn't amazon's finances its the fact that twitch loses amazon money every quarter

Is it? I can't find any specific figures for twitch in any capacity since all revenue is reported by Amazon which isn't very specific about where it all came from. I genuinely cannot imagine that Twitch is operating in the red, since 1) they basically print their own money with bits and subscriptions and since 2) they were bought out by the company that operates the largest cloud computing platform, which I would assume would allow them to utilize aws without paying a premium to expand their shit.

These were the only two things I could find about twitch revenue, both are secondary sources since the primary is locked behind either a paywall or account creation:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattperez/2020/01/08/report-amazons-twitch-not-meeting-ad-revenue-expectations/
https://www.theloadout.com/twitch/youtube-revenue

which basically says:

waahhh da company i bought only made $230m in pure ad revenue in 2018 and was on course to only make $300m in 2019 but I wanted it to make $600m D:< i can't believe the company only made $1.54b in 2019 when I wanted it to make $2b ;~: I, emmett shear, CEO of Twitch, told daddy bezos we would get to $1b in pure ad revenue and by golly im gonna do it!!!!

hate to go "akshually" but that's obviously false considering twitch are one of the biggest AWS customers
slicing and transcoding large video files on demand isn't the cheapest thing in the world, especially at scale, but hard agree that the clipping experience is poor partly because of the time it takes, i don't think throwing infrastructure at the problem would help much however
