thank god, the normal steam app is a piece of garbage
Categorised friends still get put underneath everyone thats in game and it sorts people by game :(
I like how instead of just updating the app they made a new one lmao why
lol this is so valve. coming back and releasing a completely new thing instead of updating an old one like 5 years after the original came out
at least we know we're not getting a third app for better or worse
No, it's purely for chat only which is the dumb part about it.
good to know the time they're not spending shipping medals and updating localization is going to something useful

you're playing a game that's been fairly consistently updated for over a fucking decade what are you on about
play storeThis app has access to:
Calendar
Uses calendar information
Contacts
Uses contact information
Location
Uses the device's location
Photos/Media/Files
Uses one or more of: files on the device such as images, videos, or audio, the device's external storage
Camera
Uses the device's camera(s)
Microphone
Uses the device's microphone(s)
Device ID & call information
Allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active, and the remote number connected by a call
Other
manage document storage
receive data from Internet
As far as permissions go, Calendar, Contacts, Camera, and Location make no sense. Fuck off Valve.
File storage makes sense for uploading and saving attachments. Microphone makes sense if and only if it supports voice chat. Call information is the same thing; tapping into the native Call API means Bluetooth earpieces/car handsfree, proper call audio volume, and the proximity sensor screen-off functions work seamlessly like a real call. Discord does the same thing.
Document storage is used for saving auth tokens and other misc app data, it's harmless.
they released an update removing permissions they don't need
so do i still need the old app for verification? or does the new app do the same thing
mattystopperso do i still need the old app for verification? or does the new app do the same thing
you need the old app for verification
they really should allow this app for steam auth. or just simply put everything from this new app into the old app
The new Steam Chat app is probably using a Modern Web Technologies Framework while the old one is probably using a 10,000 line Main.java file, so it'll be hard to get them to work together.
Okay is it just me or is this new app actually hot garbage it straight up doesn't send like half the messages I try to send and will just remove what I typed at least with the old app it will say failed try again
this shit seems like it was made by a highschooler how can u not amount for such basic stuff as that
seeing aliases is nice but can't even copy links (or text) someone sent and half the time it won't even load anything in the conversation
dunno what I was expecting given how big of a mess the new steam chat ui is on desktop and how they seem to prioritize making a pretty looking budget version of discord over something actually functional

mines crashed twice but everything else seems fine
way better than the other app for me at least
