Geel9The tftv production team is by far the most important part of comp tf2

I dont think that's unpopular, nor an opinion, but a fact at the moment.

Caspian 2. After watching DHS I think a voteban system for Engineer/Heavy/Sniper/Spy/Pyro is in order. Each team should be allowed 1 ban from the 5 choices. Sniper and Engineer would probably be the 2 most frequent choices but that's to the benefit of the game (from a participant and spectating pov). Thalash playing 15.5 minutes of sniper (on one map) and getting 5 frags is good for nobody involved.

if spy and sniper get banned no one will ever do anything on badlands last other than bomb over and over or put a scout on the point, banning them is going backwards from the idea of having no whitelist.

trippaCEVO was a failure not due to any fault of the community, but because it provided an inferior service to ESEA. The only reason to play CEVO was if you had a moral issue with ESEA's management, and I think the actual experience of playing it left a bad taste in people's mouths and made a lot of them quit the game.

*I realize this isn't an unpopular opinion.

Cevo could have worked had if they had higher prices and the goal of competing with esea. I was involved with it early on and I was ready to put a lot of money into it. I wanted to wipe out esea. We couldn't come to an agreement on prices. They were not high enough to make a sustainable league. When Nahanni said to the players to play both leagues and lowered the prices even further at that point I was out. To her credit she did give me the money I put in back and only after that Lange and fragile came in and I dunno. I wishes them good luck but I just feel like it was a big missed opportunity and they were too afraid to get players to pay the actual costs to make a league that worked.

Rhettroif spy and sniper get banned no one will ever do anything on badlands last other than bomb over and over or put a scout on the point, banning them is going backwards from the idea of having no whitelist.

Not sure why you chose Badlands as a map that's difficult to dry push -_-
The notion that you need a spy or sniper to break Badlands last is goofy

And why is waiting on a sniper pick any better than bombing a soldier over and over?

Teams should be willing to exchange ubers rather than endlessly wait for a pick on Badlands last. If you think it will be difficult to push last opt to use your vote on Engineer or Pyro.

Lastly the idea of moving to no whitelist isn't an end goal for current leagues/formats. Pandering to w/e Valve envisions competitive to be won't move the scene beyond niche.

yeah but if moving to no whitelist is valve's end goal for competitive, and valve has any intention to support the competitive scene, then its prudent to at least entertain their ideas in the short term.

like if valve hosted a few tournaments with a decent prize pot and a shitty ass ruleset, and players abused the shit out of certain unlocks or a lack of class limits and demonstrated the problems in actual matches, then there'd be far more support for changes towards what we expect for 6s anyway.

I mean that's also conveniently ignoring the fact that a large portion of the tf.tv community wanted to counter-boycott CEVO because it would endanger LAN support from ESEA and therefore the integrity of Invite. Strangely enough after CEVO was no longer around for a while and ESEA TF2 LAN got cut anyway most of the player base that threatened to quit kept playing with the exception of mix^ who led the whole idea and Invite was still healthy without LAN for the next few seasons.

I'm pretty sure the ESEA vs CEVO mentality was entirely a community-created conflict to keep ESEA LAN but more leagues weren't going to split the community any more than UGC 'splits' up the community. I remember enigma even changed the tf.tv website to something saying "TF2 is dead" when CEVO launched. ESEA was always going to be the best league to play in with or without LAN and with or without CEVO but people exaggerated that it wasn't enough anymore. Having more leagues would've simply provided more avenues for people to get into the competitive scene.

a lot of the arguments w/r/t lange says more about the scene's reliance on a small group of people than lange himself, tbh. if you have more than a small handful of people leading the community, one single person's actions should not be such a killer

thankfully modern day 6s is far better, mostly because valve's official blessing means people take 6s far more seriously. someone like muselk is 1000x more influential overall, but even places like reddit can consistently smack his opinions down

Still blaming me for the 6s communities failures? Still whining and complaining about everyone elses work?

How's this for an unpopular opinion:

For literally years and years the 6s community has hemmed and hawed about why their game mode doesn't grow and reach their expectations. At first it was all valve's fault for not seeing their point of view and implementing matchmaking. Then it was UGC's fault for not "officially" becoming a feeder league for ESEA-O. Even though the more obvious choice is an ESEA-FREE league to feed itself but that's a poor business decision AKA BS excuse you all licked up with pleasure from your ESEA gods. Additionally mustard, all our league data is public so if you manned up and actually did some work yourself you could have organized your own feeder program based off our results.. but that would mean you'd actually have to do some work yourself, wouldn't it? Now I am reading its all Highlander's fault 6s is still slowly dying or didn't reach its expected peak. This is the best argument to date - the fact that UGC (and ETF2L) helped bridge the gap for 10s of thousands of public players to get a taste of competition is somehow a bad thing.

Maybe.. just maybe.. its time to take some responsibility that the problems 6s faces are inherit in of itself, the decisions the small circlejerk enigma and company have made about maps, weapon bans, support/coverage on their news sites, etc over the years creating a format thats boring to watch (Valve 2014) and has very little appeal to the player base at large.

I'm not really sure if you're implying that tf2 isn't big because 6s is fundamentally flawed, but I can assure you that if the only game mode that existed were hl, tf2's overall success (money) would not be any brighter than it is now with 6s. It has always been about Valve not supporting tf2 from early on, because having a company's support invariably helps if done right.
