I believe the moral of the story is that don't be a little bitch on the internet.
also if you take serious offense to this why haven't you said anything about "get raped idiot" or "youre a fucking retard" or a tag that has followed you around "bot".

The thing is the comedy is the fact that it is funny in light of itself. The tensions of suicide are already there and the comedy can play off of that.

But recently I have noticed the community in general becoming much more toxic. I honestly think that this is largely due to the major role models that are there for people who are new to the community. B4nny is a major role model for a lot of these younger people, and is a pretty toxic person. The people at the top of the scene need to understand that they are major role models for younger community members and if they are toxic it can really hurt the entire community.

Hm b4nny can be salty but I don't think I've ever heard him say "go kill yourself" to some pootis he gets fragged by. I don't believe that the people at the top of the scene are more toxic than the average (in fact probably less).

That's not the only way people can be toxic. Also b4nny isn't the only one at fault, but being the most well known person in competitive is a lot of responsibility. Also with the way he was treating freestate in comms was pretty toxic.

but the thing is that our role models need to think of themselves in that way. You have always done a good job of being a good role model, just playing the game and having fun but being serious when the situation calls for it. Also people like clockwork, who is always very mature. But when b4nny was screaming at freestate about what he was doing, that comes off pretty badly. Most people can't take that kind of stuff, and b4nny saying all of that in comms makes newer players feel like it's okay for them to do that as well.

liasDon't take bear or bape seriously, they are lesser human beings and need to be mean to compensate for the lack of whatever else is hurting them in their miserable lives.

idk I don't think you should change who you are just cause you are famous. I think its best to just be who you are instead of changing your personality to appease the masses.

UGC recently had to deal with a case of serious stalking. Finding personal information about other players and using that to make them afraid of what might happen to them or their loved ones in real life. Don't put this shit on b4nny's complaining in pugs. It's a complicated issue that I don't think has any one cause, or any one solution.

unless players are getting paid by orgs, they dont have to abide by shit. they dont have a contract. they arent getting a source of income that isnt streaming so why should they have to do anything remotely censored? their audience should have common sense of right from wrong and should not be impressionable.

he can say what he wants, but by being toxic and a dick, the newer players that look up to b4nny get a bad impression. B4nny has become one of the main spokespersons of competitive tf2 so he should watch what he says

People who say that stuff know that it's offensive...that's why they do it. You may think that it's "not okay" to joke about suicide and that's fine, but in the end you can't control what people say.

A common sentiment in this thread is that saying offensive shit is okay because having thick skin should be required to use the internet. While it's totally true that it's an important goal for anyone to be able to manage their own state of mind, I don't think that means anyone is exempt from considering how what they say might affect others.

Additionally, a lot of people are saying that it's not cool to say those sorts of things around people who are actually suicidal or have had friends kill themselves or have been raped or whose dad died in 9/11, but how do you actually identify those people to know when to control yourself? Most won't tell you, but when they do, it's not very common for people to respond by backing off. I've seen that over and over again.

With that in mind, it seems like the only recourse someone has if they get hurt by something, if they can't just turn that off, is to leave the community, but that doesn't seem right to me. Why should people who have had hard lives be excluded from playing fun games and competing?

I know that I can't control anyone, and I'm lucky enough to be of pretty sound mind, but I still will ask people not to say certain things around me, and I try to show others the same courtesy. I don't think my life is any worse for avoiding saying obviously hurtful things. While I know it's not an obligation, I still choose to try to be less of a jerk.

please do not conflate actual potentially offensive speech with the fucking Riot model of "toxicity", ie a good player getting mad at someone on his team for fucking up

every player with actual aspirations to be good at a game at a competitive level will get frustrated when people aren't focused or make really boneheaded mistakes, the only reason it's less tolerated in tf2 is because this is a joke game with no huge prize pools or lans for people to tryhard for
