LuckyLukeOnly 1 AR clip in the Top10 right?

#10 and #1 both looked like A:R (unless it was a pub lol)

Either way that doesn't really matter. We used the best 10 clips from all 40 submissions. We sort first which clips are worthy at all to go in a video. After that we start ordering. It's usually pretty obvious which of the clips should be used, only the #10 and sometimes #9 spot are sometimes difficult to choose. 6v6 submissions are offclasses half of the time.

alright if it is a problem with submissions being awful then i'm sorry i suggested the fault was on extv's side of things. i personally would have rather had a good 5 clips rather than an overall mediocre 10. having a soda popper clip at #1 leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

also, if you're not getting enough good submissions and simultaneously running behind schedule, why not make it a bi-monthly thing?

its probably hard to get decent clips when the only people that seem to send them in are 12 year old hl kids

Edit: I agree with fatswimdude just make it a bi-monthly thing if you dont get decent clips
Quality > quantity

Firetbf if youre the last one alive on ar, and then kill the whole enemy Team alone it seems like a pretty good play to me...

Except no one on that team seems to have any idea how to kill the scout. The issue isnt so much that he managed to 1v5 them as that the skill level is noticeably low. Herr_P gets a 6k at #3 with assistance from his team, but most of the shots are clearly dead-on and Reason isn't exactly a team of low-level lobbiers.

#1 being chosen over solid play by AND against more competent players (even most of the 6s offclasses and some of the HL plays) is questionable and disappointing, and almost feels more like another A:R push by extv, the only people i ever seem to see in support of this mode. I understand that you guys don't get much in the way of clips, but I'll sit through extine's overblown "HUUUUUGE airshot" again if that means we get less gimmicky, "whacky" plays. Maybe you really should switch to bimonthly if quality is coming to this.

LuckyLukeI looked through the league / tournament submissions we got in june to get an idea of what formats we got:

6v6: 12 (broken download: 1)
9v9: 21
4v4: 5 (broken download: 1)
A:R: 2
Total submissions: 40

So definitely the majority was highlander. Either way we don't have the manpower to go through every premiership / invite match to look for possible Top10 clips. If you see something awesome, please feel free to submit it.

What about submissions for the moments of glory? I'm 100% sure there were more than 40 submissions for a month given you have more than 100k subs. I mean, we got 2.5k subs and had 11 submissions this month for example and there's no possible way you would get only 40 submissions.

It would probably be for the best to transfer some moment of glory submissions over to top10 plays, a lot of these get through the submission process when they're lobbies anyways so I don't think that would change much honestly.

I Know i've submitted plays better than this, for both top 10 and moments of glory and they've never made it in. Some of them from High officials as well. So I don't know what the selection process is but as people mentioned there's definitely a bias towards A:R, 4v4, and the likes. There's no way you could possible classify Herr_P play against the best team in europe and contender to best team in the world below a sub-par A:R match where 5 people can't aim at a scout.

I'm not sure what is the selection process fully like, but if they let people who support through Parteon to choose in which order the clips are then I'm not surprised about what you said

fatswimdudehaving a soda popper clip at #1 leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Whatever you want to say about quality of the gamemode or the players in it, #1 was a 1v5 comeback to save the round, and that has its merits as a top play.

However, because A:R uses mini-crits to give the last player an edge, it did seem pretty lame.

saamcan someone please convince extine to give up on AR

i have no idea how the dude has been casting 6s since before ive been playing it and thinks 5v5 is anywhere near as strategic/fun to play/not retarded

I'm convinced that he still somehow thinks that he is going to make bank by getting in on the ground floor of AR even though the entire rest of the community knows it's cancer (even hl players don't like it, and that's saying something). It's also possible he is already making enough money with PBL to keep it profitable for him inundate us with that clusterfuck of a gamemode. Either way I doubt that somebody who has played the game for so long legitimately enjoys the cancer of AR, I think he's just in it for the money.

tbh getting a 1v5 with minicrits and 50 jumps isn't hard at all, especially when the other team looks like they are fresh out of a pub. I bet any random lobby player could have done that.

Edit: grammar

tbh that #1 clip made me never ever want to play arena:respawn ever in my life ever. honestly thought that was a pub at first

people are saying "1v5" but he's a fighting a medic, sniper, spy, pyro and heavy. 3 of these classes are nearly useless in that situation anyways and the other two can't aim. plus minicrits

I'm all for lower skill top plays but at a certain point it becomes meaningless and the quality of the players DOES matter

Like I'm sure tons of people could could walk into an iron match and wipe an entire team by themselves, doesn't mean it would be a "top play", more a "worst play" of the enemy team

I mean seriously cmon serious ineptitude in that clip, from the entire team standing on the point (which marks you for death in that mode) to the heavy and pyro having like a million chances to get the kill but just failing to have any sort of aim at all

Wow... this thread... smh

It all comes down to clips submitted. The Highlander community has responded over the course of our 52+ episodes by submitting more plays for consideration. This has helped them become more prevalent in our series.

Ranking at the top was hard this month, but all feelings aside I thought Spanish Inquisitions play was a crazy intense clutch. Herr_P's play was very significant and against great opposition, but the clip is him scratching down 6 players who mostly aren't looking at him.

We literally do not get nearly enough ESEA clips from Invite players. Are people really stuck on this mentality of saving your clips for just your own personal frag videos? If you can't be bothered to spend the time to track down the tick of an amazing moment, send us a time mark of a broadcast with the demo file.

Luke and I get disappointed with the quality clips sometimes as well, but it's our job to try and put the best product out there. We need the community's support when it comes to submissions and this is something we've stated time and time and time again.

Please please please submit your clips.

Is it possible that the extv (or other casting organizations) casters/cameraman submit clips whenever they come across something worthy in their cast? I know there were plenty in the plat grand finals, for instance. It comes down to the players being lazy, including myself, unfortunately.

I think the casters/cameramen are in the same boat as the players. If something amazing happens, we (generally speaking here to include all the tf.tv contributors) usually don't have time to double back because we're already getting ready for the neXt match/tournament.

Myself or Luc being full time would help this situation but we still would need more eyes considering all the games being played.

Ideally this help would come from the more dedicated spectators or semi-pro comp players that are watching a ton of matches and demos. If you're watching a demo or vod and you see a crazy play that deserves to be highlighted then please help us get it in the series.

We really do want this to be the TOP 10 plays of the month.

Got it, don't worry. If you submit via the form you get a confirmation email but directly via email you don't... The form still gets stuck for some people, but most of the time it works. We tried fixing it many times every time we think we fixed it the problem comes back a few weeks later. :/

Edit: looks like there was a problem with recaptcha as well. That's fixed now.

#2 June 15th UGC HL Iron match KAOS vs burdz
#1 June 16th Best Coast Battle Arena: Respawn match Spanish_Inquisition vs East Beasts (note SI were playing the entire match 3 v 5)

Matches 100% Scrims 0% Other 0%

4s 20% 6s 50% AR 10% HL 20%

Asia 0% AZ/NA 20% Euro 20% NA 60%

Appropriately Dated Clips 80% "We'll Let This One Slide" 10% "Clearly Has Blackmail on eXelevision" 10%

Ultimately, the clips were a good mixture of game formats and regions; it's just very clear that players from the higher divisions need to submit more (although congrats to the newer players who ended up with unexpected glory as a result).

I really think we need to remember that showcases like these are a service to the community; Lucky Luke, eXtine, and Airon aren't doing this for themselves. We give little to nothing but receive solid entertainment and promotion for the game we love, which is completely fine—until we start complaining about it. I'm sure Aesop would have something to say about that. In fact...

Let's grab some apple juice and sit down on the Storytime carpet for a few minutes, shall we?

Once upon a time there was a community of starving artists whose talented work was ignored and unappreciated by the world at large. One day, a few fellow artists opened a small city art gallery/meatball café nearby and they extended* an offer to the starving artist community to showcase its work for free. What's more, the starving artists were invited to visit the gallery for free whenever they wanted, although they were quietly encouraged to buy a meatball or two when they could in order for the gallery to recoup some of its operating expenses.

For a long time the relationship between the starving artists and the gallery was a good one. The gallery owners frequently put together carefully-produced exhibitions which resulted in increasing the popularity of quite a few of the starving artists and, indeed, of the niche market of starving art itself. Best of all, some of the exhibition attendees enjoyed the art so much that they too became starving artists and bolstered the ranks the ranks of the community.

After some time, however, the starving artists grew complacent and many neglected to send new pieces to the gallery. As a result, the gallery owners were forced to include more and more works by beginning artists into their exhibitions. When the starving artists attended these shows, many became outraged: how dare the gallery owners diminish and insult their art with such inexperienced pieces?

The starving artists berated the gallery owners and then vented their rage via negative yelp reviews about the size of the gallery's meatballs—positive that these actions would serve as a lesson to the gallery owners about showcasing "inferior" art. When the gallery owners attempted to explain why they had to use the art they did, the starving artists overrode their explanations with more complaints. "That will teach them," thought the starving artists.

And they were right.

The gallery owners sat down together with a bucket of meatball poppers and discussed what their relationship with the starving artists had become. They quickly realized that they were putting in more time, energy, and passion into caring about the starving artists' work than the artists themselves were. And so, the next day the gallery owners boarded up the gallery windows, packed the truck full of meatballs, and drove off into the mid-afternoon sun** in search of a community that would work with them toward greatness.

That evening the starving artists stared at the closed down gallery in shock. They beat their fists against the locked door, demanding to know where they were supposed to show their art now. The only response they received was the slight aroma of meatballs and better days.

A few of the starving artists attempted to host their own galleries, but the world had noted the bad yelp reviews and behavior of the starving artists and, so, the public stayed clear. Potential new artists steered clear of the community, far too intimidated by the starving artists' reputation and their criticism of new artists. And so, one by one old members moved on to other things until the day came when the community was no more.

The starving artists were gone and their art existed now only in the saddest and hollowest of their memories.

This cautionary tale is brought to you by the following Morals:

 • Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
 • Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
 • Woe is the comp TF2 player who becomes the snobbish, free-loading starving artist.***

*my caps lock doesn't stick,
**because it takes time to move, but, since it's mostly meatballs, not that much. obviously.
***because this whole thing was a comparison of comp TF2 players to the starving artists and of the eXtv crew to the gallery owners. mind totally blown, am i right?

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Woe is the comp TF2 player who becomes the snobbish, free-loading starving artist.***
*my caps lock doesn't stick,
**because it takes time to move, but, since it's mostly meatballs, not that much. obviously.
***because this whole thing was a comparison of comp TF2 players to the starving artists and of the eXtv crew to the gallery owners. mind totally blown, am i right?

DigresserUltimately, the clips were a good mixture of game formats and regions; it's just very clear that players from the higher divisions need to submit more (although congrats to the newer players who ended up with unexpected glory as a result).

I mean isn't it telling why they don't submit more? Literally the lowest skilled division in the game, a Iron UGC match and a random Arena:Respawn match got a higher ranking than a 6k between 2 of the best teams in europe. This is not a case of players being good and rather more of a case of the enemies being very very bad.

Not to mention the only shot below 50 in that herr_p streak was on the demo so it wasn't like he was "scratching down players who aren't looking at him" like extine said.

Literally 90% of the people on this forum could have done that stuff against a Iron team or some random A:R team (I dont even know what level is that, but by the horrific aim of those players I would estimate below Iron. If it's a top 10 plays of the month I think it would benefit the community more to truly represent competitive at its highest level.

If that's the catch 22 they are stuck in that's unfortunate. "Mad about "low skill" plays being put at the top? Let's not submit our much better plays and then complain about how we're better then what's on display!". We need clips. People complaining that they've made better plays might help our youtube comment section stay busy but it doesn't help the series get better.

It is a top plays of the month, based off of our submissions. Our rankings could always be finetuned a little more. In hindisght I would have probably adjusted 2 downward. While Herr_p was doing solid damage with each shot of his, it wasn't the most eXciting clip. I stand by our #1 choice.

That's because you have this dumbfounding opinion that arena respawn is the most exciting gametype tf2 has ever seen.

Lets look at some more stats!

Shots taken in the #1 clip: 42 (and 2 christmas ornaments cause A:R is fucking hilariously shit)
Frags in the #1 clip: 6

Shots taken in the #3 clip: 13
Frags in the #3 clip: 6

How is the first clip in ANY way more impressive?? In your #3 (apparently now that we have told you herr_p is a god you want to rank it #2, whatever) a fast-paced clip in which a scout obliterates the BEST players in Europe in 2-3 shots a piece. What we see in your "most eXciting clip" is a mediocre player playing against people who are even worse. It takes that scout 7 shots a piece to kill each player AND all of those players are taking mini-crit damage because lol arena respawn AND 2 of those players were a sniper and a spy. You're encroaching on "powah is cheating" level of embarrassment right now.

You're looking at it all wrong. This is the top 10 plays of the month, not the top 10 players.

It's not 90% of the people on this forum who made those plays against an Iron team; it's an Iron player who managed to pull it off. That Iron player's 7 killstreak was very impressive (just look at the feedback on this thread) and forcing it below Herr_P's 6 kills simply because Herr_P is Prem would be silly. Yes, Herr_P's aim is as accurate as you'd expect to see from a top tier player, and his wiping out the entire team a great feat, but look at the difference in their plays: Herr_P lands 10-12 meatshots but doesn't come under fire until the 6th kill; the first 4 were busy fighting other players and the 5th was the passive Med. Meanwhile, Murloc Jonny headshots the Med and Pyro, bodyshots the Demo, headshots the Engie, avoids taking damage from the Scout and Sniper, airshot headshots the Solly, headshots the Sniper, takes damage from the Spy and turns and quickscope headshots the Spy. How can you argue that Murloc Jonny's show of skill is based on the other players being bad?

And then there's the #1 clip. In it, a player who has never played comp before Arena:Respawn plays 3 v 5 a group of players who are probably also new to comp. Now, keep in mind that the 3 v 5 was for the entire game; the rest of their team wasn't able to make the first couple of matches in the event. In the clip, this newbie Scout managed to win a 5 v 1 while focused and on fire. Yes, the other team was foolish in allowing the minicrit debuff to linger, but it's still not every Scout who can win a 1 v 5 against players who are of the same skill level and are all focused on killing him/her. It IS a very good play, which is what the Top 10 Plays of the Month are all about. Is it a messy play? Absolutely; it's nowhere near as clean as the #2 and #3 clips. But, at the same time, it's an interesting set of circumstances not seen before on Top 10 Plays and it's hard to blame the eXtv team for wanting to spotlight it.

People are always going to quibble whenever rankings are involved, but it's very unfair to blame the quality of the clips on how a few of them are ranked. Do you really think the eXtv team passed on high level clips because they wanted to be edgy and show mostly lower-ranking ones? And do you really believe top players didn't submit because there was a chance that this month's video could include low ranking divisions over higher divs? Of course not. High level players didn't submit because they didn't take the time to submit. That's all there is to it.

With luck, though, this thread will remind higher division players to submit, and future Top 10 Plays will get to showcase more high level talent.

The problem with rating plays entirely on the relative skill of the play-maker and the opposing team is that in higher skill levels everything becomes significantly more team dependent; individual plays are much more commonly overshadowed by teamwork at the top because of better coordination.

For instance in that 5v1 A:R scenario if you substituted each of the players on the team of 5 with players of high Platinum/Invite ability, that situation becomes virtually unwinnable for the solo player. It would not matter if the Soda Popper scout had all of his jumps and an aimbot for landing every single shot because the focus fire of 5 good players is more than enough to deal 125 damage before 1 player can kill all of them. Even though an aimbot is well beyond the skill level of any human player you wouldn't be able to solo against an entire team of top players with one.

In Herr_P's play even though most of his frags were on players shooting at his teammates it would've been impossible otherwise. The players on the opposing team needed to be focused on the rest of Herr_P's team for that streak to happen. If he had taken a sticky from the demoman or a rocket from one of their soldiers without holding back to get heals that scout playing with his medic would've cleaned up the frag. If he held back to get heals the rest of the other team would've died to his teammates that had enough health to chase.

In either potential scenario that streak would've been cut short. A lot of plays and kill streaks in higher levels heavily rely on factors outside of the play-makers actual individual ability; the timing is what has to be right and really good plays can't be as flashy as soloing against 5 players. That's why in the #1 submission the enemy team missing very badly was much more of a factor in that play than the Soda Popper scout's ability.
