ESEA Client Update - Always On???

http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=forums&d=topic&id=662472&find_comment_number=1#n1

tonight's Client update requires a windows restart in order to play on ESEA servers, this is due to the fact that, like an anti-virus, the ESEA Client is now always running (unless you uninstall and restart)

please note that running the ESEA Client and playing on ESEA servers is entirely optional, there are other places to play, and if you're uncomfortable with the Client always running then you should uninstall and cancel your subscription

ESEA is already the industry leading anti-cheat, it's been that way for more than a decade, and tonight's update further represents our commitment to doing whatever it takes to maintain the competitive integrity of our community

Can we have someone like Shooter or Killing reply about this? This is kinda worrying...

Hey guys before we go pop off and shit talk ESEA let's remember how we were almost a dead esport a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure this update could mean a lot of things but us shit talking ESEA was also one of the things that lpkaine considered before he was about to give us the snip (there's a post about this too I think). If anything let's be constructive and not do anything rash or destructive.

How are people going to play TF2 outside of matches? I'm sure there's not enough ESEA scrim servers and pug servers to go around.

Obviously they'll say it's for anti-cheat purposes.

This does seem well over the top imo though, especially with esea's shady past. I doubt they'd do something like bitcoin mining again but it's still an incredibly sketchy move for a company who has already obliterated any trust that anyone once had for them.

This is pretty much where I throw up my hands and start talking about what a good run we had lmao

I've been supportive of esea pretty much all the way through and even this move isn't the end of the world for cs players but tf2 runs like straight shit when the esea client is active and most people cba to uninstall/reinstall every match night.

I'll keep esea installed because I like cs pugs but I won't be playing anymore tf2 lol.

kind of a weird decision to make when most of your customer base is the same demographic that is very concerned with privacy

if there's backlash from the cs community then I could see them changing it but I have my doubts they'd change it to keep tf2 players comfortable

Would you guys say there's a risk of getting banned for uninstalling the client after every match and re-installing it right before the next one? CS:GO pugs are definitely not worth leaving this shit on.

Earlier this month, a major scandal tarnished the ESEA's otherwise good reputation when it was revealed that admins had installed Bitcoin mining malware unknowingly onto player's computers.

...

"ESEA is also in the process of taking all necessary steps internally to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again," he added, in an official response to the scandal.

DreamboatAlways on means more bitcoins

Exactly what I was thinking.... lmao. However in all honesty CPU mining bitcoins might make them 1 cent a year per user. Bitcoin mining is now exclusively done on ASIC chips. CPU/GPU mining won't even come close to covering the cost of electricity consumed.

"please note that running the ESEA Client and playing on ESEA servers is entirely optional, there are other places to play, and if you're uncomfortable with the Client always running then you should uninstall and cancel your subscription."

Seems like a deal with it or GTFO statement. Personally I'd like to see some proof that the ESEA client actually does something as far as anti-cheating for TF2 goes.

Unless the members of your botnet pay for it.
