BloodisMuselkHey guys, hope you liked the video. I know it didnt include a TON of information, but I wanted to keep it to 5/6 mins so it wouldnt scare off newer players with a flood of information. I tried to put the best guides I could find in the description so people could learn from actual pros, but if there are any better guides or other info you think I should add then tell me :)
I want to say how I'm happy of you for saying that running full-time pyro in 6v6 is not viable.

Since I've never seen it being viable no matter what do those shitters think lol

IARESNIPAR confirmed killing comp tf2

In case you guys haven't noticed the regular pub community of tf2 is becoming more and more aware of the competitive side of our game, I think these are exciting times for competitive tf2.

Virtually every big tf2 youtuber (>100k subs) has started playing or at least acknowledged competitive tf2 in their channels and many of them were actually very positive about matchmaking so I think we're seeing a shift in attitude within the tf2 community where as before if you posted something comp related on tf2 subreddit for example you would be dismissed as a tryharder etc etc, but nowadays people are getting more and more receptive and open to the idea and many are also very excited about the thought of matchmaking.

Now I am not sure whether this has to do about some part of the casual player base leaving or just the regular player base wanting a new challenge or kind of an end game where they can do other things, but the end point is that we're not getting neglected anymore. And that is very reassuring.

Nice work with the video, clear, concise and to the point so even complete newbies can understand it.

Would love if u could list comp.tf (site down atm, but Im on it, should be up soon hopefully). It's a competitive focused tf2 wiki, has a great amount of resources and info for new and old players alive.

popcorpspeaking of comp.tf, is the website down for anyone else?

it is, Im on it.

Some problem with the host, I already opened a ticket, I just hope they didn't just drop the partnership I had with them without a warning.

edit: got a response, it's due to a faulty server migration afaik, should be up soon.

xero"more" doesnt mean "better"?

While that's very true, this is only the first day or so since the video. It was expected that we'll see a surge in people who don't know what they're doing and will simply refuse to adapt to the "new" playstyle, and that's fine.

We'll also see a number of dedicated people who will listen to advice, want to learn and eventually be very competent players.

For newbie mixes: http://teamfortress.tv/thread/24999/a-quick-word-on-newbie-mixes-this-friday

If you're a regular dude that wants to help out this Friday, you can.
If you're a skilled gamer that wants to help out this Friday, you can.
Better yet, if you're a skilled gamer with a team you can convince to coach with you that wants to help out this Friday, you can. Read the post above for more info.

WARHURYEAHIs it NA only?

How do I do dis?

What time?

This is not specifically NA only, however it might be at an unpleasant time for anyone over in Euro land. It starts at 9 EST, like 1 AM GMT, and officially ends at 12 EST, but sometimes runs over. All we really want are people who are knowledgable and are willing to take the necessary time to explain things for the Newbies.
If you want to still coach, the mumble info is:
IP: chi4.tragicservers.com
Port: 64737

they died around 1/2 AM for the past few weeks, sideshow came and coached a game or two. there will definitely be enough players to run even later than that

Yeah I coached one game and would have coached more but I had a 9am. I'm gonna drop in more regularly and I would recommend others do the same, it's really well organised and the newbies there seem actually eager to learn rather than fuck about and not listen to what you say (like sometimes happened before).

TF2 center has been like the end days of TF2 lobby recently due to the flux of green as grass pubbers, but it will get better in due time. A good chunk don't even know what mumble is or how to use it. Played one where the roamer thought he was pocket and played with blackbox gunboats and market.

Good news is that the stubborn center regulars who don't wanna coach might move on and play pugs

Just an idea I had while reading this thread. What if TF2 Center could work Newbies Mixes into their site. So at any time there are two coaches that want to run a newbie mix (who would need to on a verified list of coachs so it isnt just trolls ruining it) They could just set up a lobby that is specially advertised as a newbie mix and only allows players with say less than 15-20 tf2 centers played that way they would be able to use tf2 centers automatic mumble + server system and have the coaches in with the players helping them out.

This way the new players would be learning how to play in tf2 center without causing massive rage at the 0 lobbies medic that has no idea what they are doing and never wanting to play comp again.

#53 if they can have minimum requirements, I don't see why they can't have maximum requirements i.e. a cap on hours / lobbies played to add up. I can see smurf/troll accounts on the horizon though...

Yeah but presumably one of the two coaches would have the ability to kick people like that and request a sub, another nice tf2center feature.

Don't enforce a maximum requirement, just allow coaches the ability to report players that aren't new.

The only max requirement that should be enforced should be centered around league placements. Like, if someone has played above Silver or Open, they shouldn't be able to play. There are lots of low-level players with a lot of hours and lobbies.

DontYeah, this is a great moment not to burn out like quake, which just ended up full of elitist players who turned off newbies. Noob hype?

I have been working on harvesting exceptional potatoes from pubs and introducing them to competitive play. I have had some success (4 out of 10 have stayed and joined teams). If anyone else has the patience and time i would suggest doing the same.

Helped 2 players already, introduced one to Tf2Center and the other one gave all necessary information.

If you want to help out new players, give them Youtube Channels of High/Prem or Plat/Gold/Invite/IM Players depending on which class that player is maining. Then direct them to Blackout, Tf Tv and eXtv Youtube channels, tell them to watch Casts of the games to get the basic idea of Highlander/6v6. Giving Stream links of Skilled players is also good. Link them to UGC/ETF2L (and the other Leagues) recruitment sections and explain how Trials/Scrims/Officials/Teams/Mumble work.

Just do no hesitate to add players from Tf2Center, keep them interested in Competitive Tf2, answer all of their questions and Mentor if they desire such. But the worst thing about Tf2Center are people who keep making fun of them and blaming Muselk for bringing them into Tf2Center, they do not understand that they were noobs when they came into Tf2Center/Lobby as well and didn't know shit what to do, don't be so rude towards them, help out guys.

Perhaps we should reach out to TF2Center and see if there's some way we can get this idea clearly communicated, given the huge influx.
