Why does this matter? Like seriously why do people care enough to make a 210+ post thread? Were some egos bruised? Maybe a fast roll would have hurt less, but 6cuties played it through, and got a round off of a off-classing mixup, and didn't drop a round to them, even when they too started off-classing. This game didn't affect who is going to LAN, or in what seeds, or anything, so both teams had the right to play for fun. In a game where the regular season stops mattering after a point, why do you expect them to play super seriously? The difference between 2nd and 3rd seed is LITERALLY NOTHING, you still face the same team first at LAN, which is why I believe the current playoff format discourages good games late season. Once you remove the LAN, if anything stronger play is MORE IMPORTANT, every team could play in the playoffs, EVERY GAME would matter, and you wouldn't need to take plane tickets out of the winnings, they become substantial. Just my 2cents.

But honestly, if the only reason you play seriously is for a community payed trip to Dallas, then you need to question why you are playing TF2, because if you don't find playing at a high level fun, then why have you not stopped, and what was your incentive before LANs?

I like tf2 and I want to keep playing it. I doubt I'm alone in thinking that many of the esea teams and players from this season don't want to deal with ESEA's shit anymore. I don't care which league I play in (apart from ESEA), I just want to play the game with people in a competitive format.

If none of the teams from invite want to move leagues, I don't really care. If half the community stays in ESEA and the other half moves to a new league, I don't really care. I just want to play tf2 in a league that doesn't shit on my privacy.

I voted in that "League Choices Vote" that someone linked earlier, but I think we should do a new poll. Just figure out how much of the community wants to stay in ESEA, and how many want to move leagues. THEN we can talk about specifically which league to move to among those that are done with ESEA.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that there seem like a TON of people willing to work on reforming our community in a new league (ie Fog, Owl, Nahanni and all the AG sponsor people). We just need all the players who are done with ESEA to pick a new alternative and start getting to work on making it happen. That can be as simple as just having everyone register for teams for the next season in the new league.

PlatinumCommunity wants to abandon esea to join xx league for "fun competition", we offclass to have fun and prolong a match, bring out the pitch forks. Do you see what happens when there is nothing to play for? For the rest of the esea season, no matter what we do our lan seed won't change. With nothing to play for, fun is the only option and therefore competition dwindles. Even after a few minutes 6 cuties joined in on the fun because - nothing mattered - exactly what will happen if some new league sprouts up that has no incentive to try your hardest.

pretty sure you guys just did something stupid and you're just trying to excuse it

This doesn't really mark the death of TF2, just the end of an era of gaming for money. It now becomes explicitly casual from this point forward until another company will kindly offer monetary prizes and a holy land for the top teams; LAN. I don't think people should jump ship because of the drama, but rather just appreciate the community grown organizations such as AG and UGC. Let's give them our support for right now, and make the most of it. CEVO is definitely still an option, playing in that league for the second season of it's return was a push-over, but nonetheless it was smooth. The experience was no different than ESEA. Not to be confused with the latest news of ESEA's closed door operations, but joining the game and playing. Paladin was easier to use than ESEA client. Not to say ESEA is difficult, but Paladin doesn't make it any more difficult to just play the game. If they had a PUG system, which I'm not sure if they do or not, I'd be all over it because it's a free league. The same game of TF2 was there when we played, just we were playing for a bit of a different purpose. If the community gave it a try again, I think there will be pleasing results. CEVO has a clean record so far, and only dropped us due to lack of support. The fact they're picking us back up again means they believe in is for business. Let's acknowledge the hand lent out and try to keep the scene going.

I remember last season when justin's team threw a match and we had 16 pages of drama and a good 30 hours before anyone shut up long enough to listen to his side of the story; and then the +frags and -frags reversed and all was peaceful. Just give it a rest, Valve will announce their adoption of comp TF2 in tonight's update teaser and there will be much rejoicing.

I'd like to ask the following question: Are you guys honestly and truthfully having fun?

Between the cries of "WORST INVITE SEASON EVER", "EVERYONE SUCKS SHIT AT TF2 EXCEPT ME, MY TEAM, AND ANOTHER TEAM", and "IF YOU LEAVE ESEA AND STOP FUNDING LAN YOU'RE THE CANCER KILLING ESPORTS", I don't think you guys are actually having fun playing this game. If people are straight up being banned for no longer agreeing to play in a league that has a LAN that the mostly same group of people in a tiny community attend season after season, that's not just indicative of a problem with a league. That's indicative of a problem in the community in terms of people actually being people and not 100% self-interested monsters.

Cucullus non facit monachum. Everyone not part of the highest echelon of TF2 are people too, you know.

Platinum and crew off-class (which is normal) and it totally gets misinterpreted...Then for some reason, Platinum rolls with it and is like "ya FUCK competition!"

And now everyone is crying because the game is dead? We got maela and RR freaking out there is no competition and the game will die...dude. There have been plenty of shitty invite seasons in the past. No need to shit on the game because you guys finally made it on a good team.

As for the weak invite competition? Killing basically moves any team to invite if they A) want to pay the fees or B) were a playoff IM team. Most the playoff IM teams last season were good at their style, but that "take little risk" style would eventually be exploited by good teams (mix ^/ iT). So in the past, you see like maybe 1 or 2 teams that are in this category, but now you have like 4 teams because shit happens. New teams need a season to grow (at least). Also, there was that giant fiasco with pyyyour's team that got completely fucked. So I think its safe to say that these things are outliers.

Can we just call it a bad season, please? Like we did before? And not be so fuckin dramatic about everything?

I think part of the reason why invite isn't as competitive is because the top two teams are just head and shoulders better than everyone else. If those two teams drop due to a lack of lan, there would certainly still be competition within invite, albeit the skill level being lower. As far as I can tell the teams ranked 3-8 aren't that far apart in skill. Not to mention there is some great competition going on within Main IM and open. The competition will be there. It just won't be at as high of a skill level as mix and iT until some more time passes. Potentially sacrificing 12 players for hundreds of others seems like a good trade to me.

Also note the amount of people volunteering to create a new league. With that many people passionate about keeping this community going, I wouldn't say a community funded/organized lan is out of the question (in due time, of course).

the problem is that the big invite names also bring interest from viewers/less casual players. tons of people know b4nny/plat, but how many times do you read in twitch chats people asking who (random invite player here) is? If tf2 loses big names, there will definitely be a loss in interest, and a reduction in the flow of "new blood".

edit: Invite is still competitive. 3 Weeks to go and the seedings for LAN are still undecided. If I recall, every season by this point has about 3 teams locked in for LAN while the others fight for the 4th spot. How is this season different?

Remember guys, mixup doesn't care that you payed a lot to help give them a trip to Dallas. They'll still mock you for 30 minutes for trying your hardest but not being good enough to win.

I think you make a good point in that for a little while at least new players joining will slow down. But given enough time new people will make names for themselves (while probably not being as big as plat/b4nny who have been around forever). As of late though TF.TV has done an excellent job casting more and more games in every division. Seeing the big names will of course be the most attractive part for new players, but pumping out constant content of good games can kind of counteract that a bit.

Throwing an idea out there. If the community wants to try run a pay to play tournament/league I could put up $6000 USD cash. Winner takes all loser gets dick all. I think 25$ a person entry fee would be fair not going to budge on that, I'm still going to take a hit but eh made 8k last week so I'll be fine. I don't have time to manage the league or really organise any part of it. If you guys think you could do something with that add me on steam and/or pm me. I'm on vacation right now so don't expect a prompt response. I'm not interested in teaming up with ugc or etf2l that's completely out of the question at this point.
