Keeping my programming fresh

Hey guys,

I've been looking for a little extracurricular work to do lately. I've been wanting to program random stuff more, to keep fresh, but I've kind of run out of ideas.

Does anyone have any ideas for Android apps, or something similar that I could do to keep my programming fresh? Or perhaps something that you want on your phone but doesn't already exist?

I mainly like to program in Java/Python.

I hope that I'd be able to do something like that, if Enigma is okay with it maybe?

I'm sure he would be; I was going to raise it up with him too, but if someone else legitimately has the time, that'd be a good start. If you were only planning on an Android release, I could take part in an iOS release.

take a look into this
http://www.appcelerator.com/

android, iOS, blackberry and web compatible.

I had to work with it for a while at job until we realized it couldn't fill our requirements, but for a forum app it might work pretty well

If you're making something like a mobile version of this website, there are probably ways to build apps compatible for iPhone without Objective C. I remember a lot of people in my senior design project class were using PhoneGap to help create apps. http://phonegap.com/

Also if possible, a stream app focused on TF2 would be nice. The twitch one for Android is pretty shitty and doesn't even list TF2 as a game.

If you just want to keep your programming fresh, maybe Project Euler or Codeacademy?

lolno if he's good at it he'll keep doing it. if you're a physicist just cause you're good at physics doesn't mean you should drop it and learn something new.

Either you don't understand what he meant or you are an idiot. Hoping it is the first of the two.

He's saying learn a new Programming Language, not stop programming. If you are a physicist and you are really good at quantum mechanics than you might actually try to learning more about another area of physics to be more rounded. And seeing as how he's looking for something to do he most likely doesn't have a job. So being knowledgeable in more languages would most certainly make you more attractive to prospective employers.

Learning c++ would probably be easy. Java and python both build of off c++ so it wouldn't be much of a gap. And it's one of the most used programs up there with java.

Never hurts to learn something new #10

Also if people do get enigma's blessing for apps, I'd be interested in helping with iOS. I wanted to do this a while back, but some more important projects came up

Also I've seen a lot of books about advanced programming problems. They aren't really language specific. They are just problems in general that you can use any program to tackle. Could probably find a pdf of them some where.

If you looking for some math related ones than Project Euler is pretty cool. http://projecteuler.net/

I actually know how to program in C, C++, a bit in C# already. Just want to hone my Java/Python and Android skills for the job market C: Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I will look at everything and start doing something this week.
