TimTumWhat are the results/conclusions of the experiment? Or is that up to the users?

I don't think anyone validated whether or not it made the game better, it could definitely fall into placebo, and it had (massive) drawbacks by changing some physics/weapons (ramp surfing, speedshotting, the wrangler)

Pretty much this. There was also a significant server CPU increase, causing half of my server capacity to struggle with 9v9 at 133Hz.

Ariegemmlmao he's a trader make a steamrep report to destroy his livelyhood
I don't think they accept reports about non-item transactions. Also, the person now claims to have used "mom's card" without approval. Causing all his purchases to be charged back now (my transaction was from Feb 16 :/ )
If true (which I doubt) it's kind of amazing you can scam businesses out of their money months later because you let your dumb kid use your card.

Could still do it anyway.

This would call into question any/all previous and future transactions with real money cause he can just say he used "mom's card" without approval again.

He's trade banned on Steam now, since his Steam transactions also got charged back.

The person that did the credit card chargeback has reimbursed me for the costs (credit card fine) and paid for the months he used the service.

Some smaller and bigger updates from the past month:

  1. Thanks to Zolak, there's now a South American version of serveme.tf at https://sa.serveme.tf. Starting with 5 servers hosted in São Paulo, Brazil.
  2. Slightly updated the design to have better compatibility with mobile devices and smaller screens in general.
  3. Fixed an issue where FTP downloads weren't given enough time to complete, causing missing demos for long HL matches on na.serveme.tf
  4. Fixed some small UI bugs
  5. Modernized a bunch of code dependencies that were long overdue

Could you be a little more specific? I'm just seeing a ton of packet loss last night on the Kansas servers, is that what you mean?

On top of what Andrew said yesterday I tried playing a lobby on a serveme server and the server would just completely freeze while our pings went to 900. http://logs.tf/2194958#76561198117722422 Don’t remember if it was a Kansas or not but I did play some Kansas lobbies that had the packet loss

Done, but remember that these (unofficial) ESEA push configs are 8 years old and shouldn't be used imo.

Just had a server that shut down the instant a map ended, logs or stv aren't available, and the server doesn't show up as a reservation I've played in. Is there a way either of them will be available at all?

Sorry about that, I see you were playing on a cloud server in the UK. These currently can't be used for two consecutive matches due to a misconfiguration (servers get killed x minutes after the first match has concluded), that's going to be changed this week, but that's why the server suddenly shut down during the 2nd map.

Logs and demos for these cloud matches get uploaded to logs.tf and demos.tf respectively, you can find the logs and demos of the first map there, but the server got killed before the logs and demos of the second map got uploaded. These can't be recovered unfortunately.

Ah that's fair enough, there was just a really stupid moment that I wanted to see from the STV but it's all good.

A bunch of new developments that might be interesting:

- Thanks to Gameye, we've added a new feature, cloud servers. These servers get launched on demand (takes just 20 seconds) and this gives us more capacity and locations. Locations already live: Warsaw (PL), Moscow (RU), Frankfurt (DE), London (EN) and Sao Paulo (BR). Soon we'll have some more USA locations for this service as well, most likely New York and San Francisco.
- 8 new Dallas, USA servers from a new host/datacenter we haven't used before
- And soon, 8 new Los Angeles, USA servers

This should give na.serveme.tf some more capacity now ESEA will be out of the picture soon.

There seems to be a bug where the servers can't load in to new maps that were recently added, instead it simply puts it on turbine (seems to be the default map). Tried it with CP_CHAD and ultidickl_a6_b_fix.bsp and neither seemed to be on the server, despite the webpage saying so (both are also on http://fakkelbrigade.eu/maps/)

Seems others have been having this issue too: https://www.teamfortress.tv/51240/cp-chad-5cp/?page=3#bottom

Cheers, I made a mistake when creating the more recent NA servers, so they were missing a bunch of maps. Fixed now.

Some updates....

- Removed the idle timer / 24h temp ban if you didn't use a server
- Removed ads, the $9 a month in Adsense revenue is not worth the privacy mess
- Removed relaypassword (it's the same as STV password now)
- Slightly improved the ping indicator, it's still not great due to browser limitations
- Any player in a premium reservation can now !extend in case you run out of time

Some more updates:

- Greatly increased the average server launch speed. The system will now try to do a fast start of the server (takes between 1 and 5 seconds). If there's a TF2 update or the server is unreachable, the system does the old, slow start (35 seconds). The on-demand cloud servers are still fast at about 20 seconds.
- Added auto-updater for plugins and configs. Stole that idea from RGL, cheers
- Fixed the double response when you had plugins enabled and typed !rcon commands in chat
- Added a little ping refresh button on the reservation form, don't spam it, the TF2 server will ban you
- If you're from NA and end up on EU serveme.tf, we'll now suggest you try na.serveme.tf. With RGLs season in full swing there are lots of new faces visiting from NA and we did a poor job of directing them to the right region.

Tonight's TF2 update came right at the time a lot of people launch their EU matches (21:00 CEST), the update was large and the steam servers for server downloads slow or at least varying wildly in performance. This caused the update to take anywhere between 2 and 20 minutes. These long update times were experienced on servers from all the geographical regions we provide. They're still slow now, timing out while servers try to get the latest version info.

Since people are used to <5 second server boot times, many people ended their reservations within a few minutes (while the update was still running), and made new ones. This didn't help the situation as this had a chance of triggering a bug in Valve's steam server update tool causing the update process to freeze while trying to shut down, this left a handful of servers in this frozen state.

Luckily it seems everyone managed to get a working server within 15 minutes or so, but I'm not yet sure how to improve this situation. If an update drops close to match times, is big, and steam is slow, we're going to have a bad time.
