ShearsI'm not saying that Trump directly caused this mass shooting. We can agree that that is ridiculous. What I'm saying is that Trump (and yourself) contribute to the broader cesspool of anti-immigrant hate that led the shooter to believe that his actions were justified.

You could say the same about leftists media who exaggerates everything Trump says as if he was some sort of devil. I constantly get spammed with how much he hates minorities, opens "concentration camps" for immigrants, is blatantly racist sexist and everything the worst when in reality, even if you are a Democrat, you clearly realize its greatly exaggerated.

It's honestly such a bullshit logic that somehow being openly and adamantly against immigration somehow makes him at fault for some freak going insane and murdering people.

It's funny how in America you could read CNN for a month and Fox News for a month and you would get two COMPLETELY different images of reality.

People refer to the rhetoric he uses that dehumanizes them, like calling them invaders.
I'm not going to say Trump is THE reason, but to ignore the huge spike in violence after his presidency from the right-wing is so fucking naive.

"I'm not going to say he is THE reason, but he is the reason", basically. You're correlating Trumps presidency with rise in right wing terrorism as your argument and yet you dont want to call him the reason. Also, Trump is referring to illegal immigrants when he says invaders, which doesnt seem like a bad word for it at all. They are forcing their way in.

trump did not specifically ask the shooters to go shoot up people. thus he is not THE reason.
trump's rhetoric pushes right-wing people further right and down a spiral of hate and eventually extremist violence. thus he is a reason for a spike in violence.

immigrants are not invaders. you simply choose to feel threatened by a bunch of hispanic/muslim people looking for better living conditions and pin every issue and flaw of the american system on them, giving right-wing extremists a "case" or a "reason" to feel entitled to violence.

He is not the sole reason, he is a symptom and merely reinforces. You could see extremely divisive right-wing rhetoric stewing on places on YouTube before he was president and only continued the gestate and grow more dire after he became president. He was elected by those people because Trump has a platform they identify with. It's not like he was made president out of nowhere.

So being against open borders pushes right wing people down the spiral of hatered and madness. Ah yes, the connection is clear. Certainly there aren't any much more significant factors at play and you should blame Trump. I've also said ILLEGAL immigrants can be described as invaders, not legal immigrants so read carefully.

When Hispanic asylum seekers are referred to as thieves, murderers, rapists, and invaders then yes you can definitely see that people may get pushed down a spiral of hatred and madness. Such loaded words push people to feel feelings of discomfort, unrest, and anger. Seeing all the issues that the media pushes onto these people all at once can be a lot for them to handle, and it makes them more volatile. They want an explanation, and when the President of the United States, the guy with most of the fucking power in the country, tells them that Latinx and Hispanic people are the main problem, the cause of everything going down-fucking-hill, then yes you can expect anger, expect madness, expect extremism, expect terrorism.

It's not that Trump doesn't like open borders, it's how he expresses his disliking of open borders, by pushing a narrative that these people who wish for better conditions are nothing more than degenerate scum.

who is surprised by these anymore? things are going to keep getting worse and worse and no naive measures like whatever gun control means anymore or jacking up the youth on God knows what kinds of drugs is going to change the fact that this country has made terrible choices and will pay the price for them.

UPDATE: The guy said in his manifesto that his plan existed long before Trump's presidency, but that he knows Trump's thetoric will get the blame anyways.

Doom1UPDATE: The guy said in his manifesto that his plan existed long before Trump's presidency, but that he knows Trump's thetoric will get the blame anyways.

Picture this: You've wanted to touch the stove top for a long time. A real long time. Then, one day, someone with authority says "some fine people have touched the stovetop" or laughs and smiles when you suggest touching the stove. Yes, your desires predate this guy talking about the stove, but he's the one encouraging you. It's been said in this thread before: Trump is not the cause of the shooting, but he's no hindrance either.
https://theintercept.com/2019/08/04/el-paso-dayton-mass-shootings-donald-trump/

Obviously, the shooter must've spent some time on 8chan if he felt it appropriate to post his manifesto there, so his views were probably reinforced there, and if he watched cable news he'd have found a friend in Tucker Carlson.
The point is there are a lot of nasty people shaping minds in this world, and I'd rather the president fight back against white supremacy, not repeat and reinforce talking points about immigrant invasions (which he also gets from Carlson and Hannity).

So to sum it all up: Trump bears some blame but as Coovoo said he's just a symptom of American nationalism.
