Hey, I'm looking to build a new pc with a budget of anywhere between 1.2 - 1.4k euros. The pc will be used for general gaming and streaming. I would be able to overclock and I want to build this asap, I don't care about waiting for the new cpus.

If possible, I would prefer a smaller case with either a micro atx/mini itx motherboard, whichever one you deem to be more suitable.

Thank you in advance!

I don't have a pc right now and I think I'm entitled to do what I want with my money, even if I'm being impatient.

It's a 3 week wait for one of the largest jumps in performance in almost a decade. Buying now because you are impatient is a dumb decision. It's your money. Put it in a shredder for all i care. But i'm not going to say it was a good decision.

This is what i would buy if i insisted on getting it RIGHT NOW at your budget

If you are willing to go used and do some tweaking you can get close to RTX 2070 performance out of a Vega 56 @ $200 if you want to save some money.

fucked up the first build. Readjusted for Euro pricing https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/pQvqTB
The fans and CPU cooler are personal preference. You can get away without them but i highly recommend them over stock.

Screwball is very biased and didn't put much effort into this so take his advice with a grain of salt. And yes, I asked him.

He's got that CPU, so you must buy the same one.
He's got that RAM kit, although 16 GB, he just picked the wrong (like I said, not much effort) so you must buy the same one.
He bought a Vega 56 because it's much cheaper at similar performance (not wrong there) so you should too.
His case fans (different case though) broke within a year so you should replace your immediately.
Also he picked the PSU because it's 80+ Gold and fully modular (again not a bad reason), because he assumed it's made by SuperFlower (wrong) and because it's cheap (not true in europe, on sale in the US because it's horribly overpriced at MSRP). 750W is a bit much so you can get something cheaper by looking at the prices you'd actually be paying.

So this is literally what he would buy right now, partially it's even what he did buy.

Pcpartpicker isn't that accurate in Europe so where will you be buying the parts? No use in picking a part for a sale that's only in the US.
What's the goal in terms of performance? Or do you just want to spend 1.2k no matter what for no reason other than doing so?
What's your preference for the storage setup? Capacity, SSD+HDD, one large SSD (expensive and fast or not as fast but more reasonably priced)?

EDIT:
He's also very salty about µATX. He wants all the VRM phases he can get. 4 is just unacceptable but the manufacturers only offer 6 on the expensive full ATX X470 boards.

Hi Setsul, I will be buying the parts online. The goal is to be able to play newer titles in 1080p on high/ultra settings whilst getting good fps. As for tf2 I'd like atleast a stable 200+fps (with an fps config) and be able to stream without taking a huge performance hit. Perhaps I should have said the most I am willing to spend is 1.4k, I am not looking to spend 1.2k for no reason.

I would prefer a SSD+HDD setup.

Any shops specifically? Never had to look for an Irish price comparision site so far, so if you can point me in any direction it would help.
Good fps as in 60+ or as in 120+?
For the SSD and HDD how about 512 GB + 2 TB or do you need more?

What #3312 wrote is theoretically an option. A 2700X is a reasonable option so you wouldn't even have to replace it if you decide not to. It's basically the tradeoff of going with Intel/Coffee Lake for the higher single threaded performance but either higher price or fewer cores or saving some money with the 2700X but slightly worse performance in games (even closer or possibly better when streaming though) and the option of upgrading to Zen 2 which should get you at least the same performance without streaming and better performance when streaming at a lower price compared to Intel.

I'm from Northern Ireland, so a UK site would work fine. Good fps as in 90+.
That amount of storage is suitable.

As a note I would prefer Intel over AMD simply because it's what I am used to, if price is the only advantage to switching to AMD, I'd rather stick with Intel.

Shouldn't it be GBP then?

Are there any specific Intel features that you need so I can pick the right SKU or is it just the "Intel inside"-sticker? Because I can get one of those for you if you need it to feel comfortable.

I forgot to ask: What qualifies as a "newer title"? 3 years old vs released in 2020 obviously makes quite a difference.
It's just a matter of changing the GPU though, so here's 3 baseline builds. Details can be changed as necessary.

AMD: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/8RsvpG
Intel 8C/16T: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fGXhV6 (not much wiggle room left for a better GPU though)
Intel 6C/6T: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/PD3s9J (similar price, slightly better for games, but significantly worse for streaming than the 2700X)
In between there'd be the 9700K, not that much worse for streaming than the 2700X/9900K, but not as outrageously expensive as the 9900K. Depends on what you're willing to pay and how much of the budget is left if you want a faster, more expensive GPU.

Cheers, by newer titles I meant games released in 2018 and onwards. I'll play around with these and make a decision regarding how much I want to spend.

Thanks again.

would y'all recommend upgrading from a "budget" ssd (in my case, an ADATA SU650 250 gb) to something like a 860 evo?
what about to a NVME ssd like a 970 evo should i try saving up a bit and try getting one?

Depends on how fast you need/want it to be.
Check if your motherboard actually supports NVMe via M.2 and at what speed before you buy an SSD that won't run at full speed.

reckon there are gonna be sub $100 mATX MBs that are Zen2 compatible out of the box by September? I've never had an AMD cpu build so I can't BIOS flash current ones

By September definitely; there's usually a month or so wait for lower end chipsets to release after a new CPU launch. If you get a B550 motherboard (the budget-friendly step below X570), you won't have to worry about BIOS flashing since they'll be designed out of the box to run with Zen 2.

Yes.
Obviously you're not going to be able to overclock a 12 or 16 core with a <100$ mobo, but for a budget build with a 4-6 core CPU or even 8 cores if you don't need that much of an overclock it should be fine.

#3323
4 more days, unless you're really in a hurry.
To be honest if it's just for TF2 and you're getting a 970 you shouldn't need anywhere near 1200€.
Any other parts you'll reuse?

this is what i've got right now, looking to upgrade cpu / mobo mostly, i'm fine with my current gpu. looking to get consistent 144+ fps in tf2, currently drops to 70-90ish fps during team fights / pubs etc. if this isn't possible without a GPU upgrade i'll look into it, but since my other components are so old im more interested in upgrading those.

edit : some parts (notably the memory and storage) may not be accurate but i tried my best to find the correct listing.

When will you have the money? If this is a "in 3 months" kinda thing then there's no point in planning the specifics yet.
Like I said though if it's just for TF2 and performance in everything else is irrelevant you won't need 1200€.
Or are peripherals like a 144 Hz monitor counting towards the budget too?

#3327
Budget?
Unless you're going to run TF2 in 16K with 64x SSAA any DX8 compatible toaster is good enough GPU-wise.
You will need new RAM though for a new CPU + mobo.

not looking to spend a fortune, maybe around 400ish for both components?

would it be possible at all to get a mobo that works with ddr3 while upgrading the cpu? i reckon it's pretty not worth it considering its already outdated as it is. i dont think i need more than 8GB

I guess one other concern is that I want to be able to play some newer releases / upcoming games, mostly cyberpunk 2077, i'm fine with running a game like that on lower settings if it meant atleast constant 60fps. I've never played a CD-Red game before so i'm not sure how they fare with my current build but would i need to look into a new GPU for that?

edit 2 : also looking into streaming more in the future. I'm willing to pay more money, max maybe 600 if i can get 144+fps while streaming at 720p. Not too worried on the other components on my pc, the case and storage is fine and 500w should be more than enough.

Technically possible, very much not recommended. Your options are Skylake/Kaby Lake with either a trash mobo or an overpriced mediocre mobo that support DDR3. If you can find them that is. We're talking about 2015/16 hardware. If you want a decent mobo you'd have to dig up 2014 and older hardware.

Also the mismatched sticks prevent it from running in dual channel mode, which isn't ideal.

In Witcher 3 a 960 would get around 60 fps on low. Not consant, just average. That means 1% drops to 50 and 0.1% drops to 40, but that's just how it is. That's a game from 2015 so I think it's safe to say that you're not going to get 60 fps in a game released at least 5 years later.

Should be very doable with 600$. We'll have to wait for the release and benchmarks but even a 3600 (6 cores/12 threads) for 200$ might get you good enough streaming performance. Another 200$ for mobo + RAM and you'd have enough left for other upgrades. Worst case you can max out the budget and throw an overclocked 3700X/3800X at it. 8 cores should do the trick.

yeah i think the 3600 is a good idea since i probably wont be getting the money for another 2 months minimum, and i'm fine with waiting longer. I think i'll worry about the GPU for later but what would be the best GPU to get for a 3600? im looking into getting an RX 590 or 580 atm.

I've also got no idea about which motherboard i should choose. Like what's the main difference between the 100$ range to the 150$ range? atm looking at this one simply because it comes with dvi-d.

A mobo having dvi-d means nothing when you're gonna be plugging into your GPU lol.

Also a bunch of cheaper motherboards will probably be released soon when the new Ryzen CPUs have been out for a while.
