FACEIT & Class picking matchmaking!

Hello everyone, in the past year we launched several community initiatives to support TF2 on FACEIT platform. We've been closely collecting your feedback on how our product needs to change in order to provide better experience for the TF2 players and give you the features that you all asked for. FACEIT loves TF2 and it's a game and community that we want to continue supporting in the future, and we need your help now to test the features we've been working on!

FACEIT is running a test on TF2PL for the next week (until November 21st at Noon PST). A temporary unrestricted hub will house a new bot feature being tested, which will allow users to select a class preference, and require that teams have all the classes necessary prior to initiating a match.

Q: Where can I find the hub?
A: https://www.faceit.com/en/hub/07b2d742-0817-42f0-b2b1-8dc11dc4d84b/ClassPick%20HUB

Q: When will testing begin?
A: The hub is now live- you can sign up and begin playing immediately.

Q: What are the restrictions on this hub?
A: There are no level or region restrictions, however servers are located in Chicago.

Q: How does class selection work?
A: Once you’ve entered the hub, type into the all-chat “@pootisbot” and then list the classes you’d be willing to play. The bot will save your preferences. You can then press PLAY to enter the queue as usual. You can do this solo, or in a group of up to 5, however take care to be sure your group doesn’t have incompatible classes set (such as three of you only have Scout selected).

Q: What classes are available?
A: Per team, there are two Scout, two Soldier, one Demoman and one Medic (please decide amongst yourselves which scout or soldier rollout to play). You can select any combination of these roles.

Q: What will happen if I do not set a class preference prior to queuing?
A: You will be automatically assigned a class based on what is required for a match to fill.

Q: How will we know who is playing which class?
A: Pootisbot will post in the all-chat with the class assignments for your match.

Q: How will communication work? What is required?
A: No voice systems are required for testing, in-game voice is recommended if necessary.

We hope you all enjoy your time testing, and that this feature is useful for Team Fortress 2. Once you’ve tried it out, here is a short survey should you wish to leave some feedback:

good change.

but it might be good to implement a timer, especially in lower divs, so if after 20 minutes of 12 people sitting and staring at each other, with no medics, you get forced to start a game and figure it out among yourselves.

Holy shit they actually added it!?

I wonder how long it'll take games to start with this.

Also will the elo be class based now? I understand that it would be hard to keep track of 4 different elo tallies, but it really would be incredible to see.

11/12 added atm if people want to test. There's always been multiple tf2 games happening on day 1 faceit hubs in TF2 so everyone should get the opportunity to play. Make sure to set class preferences before adding

so if there are 20 people added by the time 2 medics add

do u get to pick anyone from the 20

or are 12 people chosen from the 20 that u can pick from

I don't think it makes much of a difference. A stack of 5 is still gonna roll a group of solos regardless if they're actually trying imo

I agree with that. But faceit thinks otherwise

Feedback from playing 2 games:
Pretty much what I expected. A better alternative to TF2center. Skill levels in both games ranged between open and invite but it never felt like a roll. Though 2 games isn't much to judge by

Things we'd still need is a better alternative for voice chat. In-game is alright these days, but it's used so infrequently many like myself don't even have a bind for it. A discord or mumble would go a long way but I'm assuming in the long run that's the idea. Just a test atm

Class assigning went okay once we were in-game with people playing classes they're comfortable with. Apparently the bot is supposed to assign roles, but that wasn't working properly yet(?)

Also there still is a map ban with captains being assigned after readying up. Something to look out for in case you get picked captain

tip for players:
State all your class prefs in the team chat window during the map bans and encourage teammates to do the same. For example if someone is fine with playing soldier/demo and someone is only demo you can save discussion in case the soldier/demo just so happens to go demo first once they're in the server.
The way this is set up there will always be a combination where everyone can play a class from their prefs. For now it seems to be up to the players to find it

Yeah, I feel that a better integrated system to either allow captains to pick players or at least set preferences for classes would be good. Also, the bot posting class assignments in the general hub as opposed to the lobby chat itself seems kinda dumb.

meyyso theres no picking, a bot does that for you. not only that, it only selects classes for 9/12 players, and no medics are picked. it readies up if ANY 12/12 add. this is basically discount mixchamp without any voice

the bot is bugging out, this is 100% not intentional and paralin is working on it now

SpyromancerHow do I add this to my hub? I've been asking about something like this since January.

let's have a chat after the test

TailorTFYeah, I feel that a better integrated system to either allow captains to pick players or at least set preferences for classes would be good. Also, the bot posting class assignments in the general hub as opposed to the lobby chat itself seems kinda dumb.

this is just to see how/if class picking can work as a function within the matchmaking parameters, so i wouldn't mark the bot as a final product :) captain picking is a separate feature that already exists.

Olghaare the rules about offclass still the same as before ?

since it's on b4nny's platform his offclassing rules apply, so yes:

Offclassing
Offclassing is allowed, but excessive and ineffective offclassing is prohibited. Offclassing punishments will be handled on a case by case basis.
Generally, when playing in TF2PL you should adhere to the standard 6v6 meta (2 scouts, 1 pocket soldier, 1 roaming soldier, 1 demoman, 1 medic).

Sounds like playing engi on last is fine but running heavy to mid every round maybe not so much.
