Danish upcoming lan?

I don't think there's an issue that there is a Highlander LAN existing in Europe again, but! The bigger issue here is that people were awaiting and hoping for this to be another similar LAN just like the Swedish one back in November after hearing about all the rumours of this happening in Denmark. And to have the theme of the event unveiled to be around HL exclusively is just a disaster for a really big amount of people.

At least now I don't need to feel bad about dodging this one.

Obviously this will be a biased forum to talk about it, but even the majority of HL players, including myself, ask why this is going to be a HL LAN. The reason DeutschLAN was popular was because of the venue, not because it was HL. A very small minority meet up to play HL rather than letting it be an excuse to meet and hang out with the people you play with so much every week. HL people don't care about the gamemode, or they wouldn't have met up for i61 or the other LANs. 6s attracts a lot more people and makes the community gathering a lot larger as a result which is great for everyone. The worst part is that they're just shooting themselves in the foot because there's not much to gain by making it a HL LAN. And this isn't even accounting for the other good stuff that comes with 6s LANs like cool matches to watch and such things. Would be such a wasted opportunity for something this community just doesn't get enough of.

Hope they change their mind.

I don't think it should be compared to DeutschLAN really. Correct me if I'm wrong, but DeutschLAN was always seen as a "casual" lan, people just enjoying all the stuff that came with it.

This seems to be the first try for a more "competitive" HL lan, how it will turn out is gonna depend on all the details to it, which we hopefully get soon.

If this LAN happens and is at the Copenhagen Games, just think about the exposure it could get compared to in some obscure Swedish town. If you lot want to grow this game, playing an alternative clusterfuck game mode at a big LAN is not the way to do it.

Am I the only one who is happy about the fact that there is yet another TF2 event? As Toast said, people who preferingly play Highlander come to 6v6 LANs regardless because they want to hang out with their friends that they play with online week in and week out. Why cant it be the other way round?

I have honestly never wondered what gamemode is being played at a LAN when considering to attend. Logistics, accommodation, and in the end budget was always a far more important concern. I love TF2 and I couldnt care less if I am playing 9v9 or 6v6., LANs are awesome! Cu@!

My body is ready for the shit and the downfrags I am about to get for this.

^thats what the confusion/hate is about. The lan Stinson announced seems more of a replacement for Deutschlan than any 6s lan, both can exist while people still play highlander and like each other

This is true, and also a part of my point. The main problem with trying to focus on a competetive side of HL now is that the scene hasn't been able to field more than one solid roster for the last 18 months, and that one pulled in 3 americans. There is no proper competetive side to it anymore. Because of this you will have a terrible stream for people to watch and much fewer signups.

Stinson_OutWhy cant it be the other way round?.

That's just how it is, how it always has been and how it always will be. No point challenging it. Streep sums it up pretty well although there are many, many other reasons. It just complicates everything for no benefit and drives many people away from actually wanting to go.

When this is all said and done, Let's see what happens when more details pop up.

It honestly keeps surprising me how the 6s community thinks they are the only game mode entitled to a LAN.

Same with RGL and Ultiduo, if people are willing to put in money they get to say how many players per team need to show up. If that happens to involve an actual LAN space as a player you can show up an play for the money and bitch on the forums but you're not the one with the money and don't get to decide what happens with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, less teams => bigger chance of winning and a bigger cut of the prizepool, right?

ahh yes that's why 2 members from the team that literally won Prem HL yesterday have said that they don't want this to be a HL LAN.

It should be pointed out people reacted disappointed because they thought this HL tournament is replacing a 6s tournament.
Wiethoofd and Stinson seem to have misinterpreted the negative feedback. This isn't about HL vs 6s. It's about everyone expecting a 6s LAN from Essentials and then suddenly being told about a HL LAN, causing people to believe this is organised by Essentials instead of a 6s LAN which would mean there won't be any 6s LANs until i63.

WolfMachinaJust to let you guys know, this HL tournament is not replacing a 6s LAN from Essentials

If Stinson would've said this in his post it would've made things a lot clearer and there wouldn't have been (as much) negative feedback.

Boy I cant wait for the next arms race cs major or the next 10v10 dota major.

There is a good reason why one game mode is fully supported competitively in games.

I dunno, why not have hl players have their fun as well? I mean, I'm not really interested and I don't even know if there are enough people who are but if that's the case why not?
Saying never play a hl lan because most people in comp would rather see 6v6 is like saying never have a comp tf2 lan because most people in tf2 would rather see youtubers play pubs imo.

Maybe we could do some polls or actually get a picture how many interested people there are instead of reviving the old '6s is better than hl' debate

jesus what even is the hate here AFTER it's been cleared up that this isn't the essentials lan

who cares if some other people who play the same game with each other want to have their own lan/meetup. it's barely a detriment to the potential of 6s lans

Stinson...buddy...why'd you have to do this? Now I HAVE to slam this post. I have respect for what you do, and hey, if we're ever at the same event, drinks on me, but, I'm calling out what you said.

Stinson_OutAm I the only one who is happy about the fact that there is yet another TF2 event? Yes, you are literally the only person in this whole world who's happy about it.

Of course not. Acting like a martyr in this post is not going to help your case, especially when you contradict yourself.

Haha, if you actually care about logistics, accommodations, and budget, then 9v9 is out of question. Mathematically, it doesn't add up to be cheaper. You can't be for 9v9 AND logistics. At this point in time, they're at odds with each other. Choose one, and be honest about it. Stop lying to yourself.

People here express their dislike of a 9v9 centric LAN (I don't, for the record; it's irrelevant to me), but, I don't think anyone but the most vocal would straight up DENY 9v9 players having a LAN. That's quite an extreme position to take, in my view.

Stinson_OutMy body is ready for the shit and the downfrags I am about to get for this.

Sure, and deservedly so. But, it's because you're just ignoring the truth. Don't martyr yourself on this one.
