What's the most efficient way of improving your dm

As a scout, is it worth the time to MGE for multiple hours a day? Is it a waste of time? Dm servers only last for a couple of hours spread out during the day, is that better than mge? How good are bhop/surf maps for scout? Is it useful to play practice maps like tr_walkway, tr_arena, tr_bot, tr_aim_training? Aim or movement?

What seemed to improve your dm the fastest using your time efficiently?

Finnigando you really want to spend your time playing multiple hours of mge or dm a day

I already do, but mostly mge, I want to know if its better to do certain things mentioned above or have a more efficient way to improve a lot quickly.

playing maps with bots aren't very helpful imo unless for a warmup. i'd play mge or dm depending on which one you prefer more, because i see people with both really good DM who play both modes exclusively. any mode that improves your movement is good. with that said, all of that stuff needs some application, so i'd also be playing pugs and scrims as well.

you don't have to spend hours a day grinding DM, though. quality over quantity. if you spent a little under an hour grinding DM/MGE and some sort of movement map, played a pug/scrim a day, you'd improve a lot better than mindlessly grinding. develop some rhythm, have a loose schedule, that helped me the most. personally, i dont think you will just plateau grinding the shit out of DM, I think you will eventually get worse, so I'd spend my time smartly with that.

i'd say it really depends on the player. making sure it doesn't feel like a chore to do is important though. trying different ways of training might help you in finding out what works the best for you.

for me it was just playing scout, i didn't play mge or DM. the training i got from was through just playing scout whether it be in pubs, pugs, scrims, officials and whatnot. i didn't feel mge was very helpful for my mentality while DM and practice maps were very boring to play for more than 10 minutes. it took me some time to realize that i just really enjoyed playing scout. i wouldn't recommend doing what i did though, or if you do at least play other classes occasionally so you won't end up incompetent at everything except scout.

i don't know if bhop and surfing helps in anyway but i really enjoy playing those just as a time waster, very fun.

If you are going to use MGE / DM as your practice it can be very effective if you do it the right way. A few points:

-- Never focus on winning/losing. Use MGE / DM to hone different skills, nothing more.

-- Proper DM is about your movement, timing, and pure aim all working together (so many players can't combine the 3 and never work on them individually)

-- As a scout, MGE and DM can encourage really bad 6v6 habits, such as, mindlessly hitting W into your target or engaging in bad positional fights. No matter what map you MGE, you can always focus on taking the fight on your terms AKA playing smart. This, more so than pure DM, might help you more overall be a smarter/better player.

-- Try and make every shot hit. Doesn't matter if you lose the MGE fight. Even if you shoot slower, just do your best to guarantee a hit with every click. Over time, you will get sharper and have more trust in your aim. Then you can increase your firing speed. (easier for soldiers but still the same principal for any class IMO)

-- Movement can be more important than aiming. Focus some time on your dodging ability. As you dodge shots, use your own movement to setup your aiming. Do this slowly at first and keep guaranteeing a hit with your shots. Over time, this will help your tracking ability and you will learn to move in any direction while keeping your crosshair on, or close to, the target.

-- Repeating -- Never focus on winning/losing. Use MGE / DM to hone different skills, nothing more.

The best way i found is just play scrims, matches, pugs and mge people 100-300 elo higher than you when youre bored, dont force yourself to mge because it can do more harm than good most of the time.

It just takes time to get better, there is no way to become super high invite in a few weeks

bhopping in tf2 is garbage because of edgebugs becoming stupidly common at high velocities, i would recommend that you stick to jump/surf maps and DM

mge to grind mechanics
dm to apply mechanics

simple as that, more time u put in = more u improve

if mge/dm is dead play newbots

heks mge people 100-300 elo higher than you

Avoid focusing on ELO. It means nothing at all.
Every player you face (good or bad) can offer you a new/different piece of your game to practice at that moment.

prsimple as that, more time u put in = more u improve

Partly true but just remember, there is good practice and bad practice. As I said in my other post, you can MGE / DM all day long but if you develop bad habits you will bring those into your 6v6 play and not see improvement as a result. In the end, you want to DM / MGE to help you do good in scrims / matches.

Keep playing often, but have goals for yourself. That is how you gauge improvement.

in terms of maximum improvement per time play dm, surf/jump/mge if dm is dead
if you really want to improve, count how many shots u miss it will probably frustrate you into wanting to get better

Besides dm/mge/surfing/jumping, just play the actual game as well (pugs,scrims,lobbies.. whatever) cuz dm and mge can get you bad habits of tunnel visioning, you need to play the game as much as possible and just be keen on improving. I also always warm up before playing, because if I don't i miss much more shots and I get mad.

For me a good warm up is a few minutes in a proper dm server then go play a pug or 2. Feels nice and I shoot actual players

tr_rocket_shooting2 for 5 minutes then jump into a dm server for 20. That has always warmed me up after a long day at work.

ammomod MGE 20 mins, DM 20 mins, jump 10 mins.
Don't over practice or you will actually make yourself worse.

GET ON A TEAM AND SCRIM

Nothing is more productive than actually playing the game.
Dont pub b4 matches. It will make your aim worse.
Take care of yourself if you are not already. My aim has always been at it's best when i'm doing daily cardio, and eating/sleeping well.

My aim feels different every day atn. I go through spells where my tracking is nuts on dm and then i cant hit anything for half an hour. Now im back constantly changing sens and crosshair trying to fix it.

Think I'm just burnt out. My movement has gone to trash and I'm probably just thinking about it too much.

So yeah, basically also be wary of over playing.

i feel like this inconsistency you describe is based on your team and opponents in dm. its easy to get a 25 damage kill on a scout that is better than you that was hit by a pipe or direct, but next round when the teams are shuffled and the friendly spam is not there the scout kills you in a 1v1. your skill level has not increased or decreased, the situation being in your favour before has given you false confidence.

this is why it is important to look at the context of the fight and not who gets the kill at the end if you want an accurate measure of your skill.

Aiming was (and still is tbh) always my weakest aspect of Scout. Around half a year ago I decided to commit to getting better aim and I experimented a lot.

Personally I can recommend playing like 15 mins of DM and like a jump map or so a day. Then as you get used to it keep increasing the time you spend playing DM.
I also spend quite some time playing PUGs and scrimming. What can also help is mercing for good teams after you're warmed up.

After a few months I play 1-2 hours of DM a day depending on free time and then I scrim 2 maps and play a few pugs. It's significantly increased my aim skill!

The best tools I've found so far have been OSU!, duck hunt and cookie clicker. Such games enhance my ability to click on various pixels on my screen and "duck hunt" even mimicks shooting an actual gun at your target (in this case, a TV and only a TV). By practicing your clicking ability for up to 3 hours a day you will become a low-open scout just like me.

EDIT: This of course only helps with your mouse movement. The keyboard is easy - if it's a scrim or official you hold w, and if it's mge/dm you hold s.
