Should ESEA Open have conferences?

I assume that ESEA plans to split TF2 Open into two conferences again, as they have since season 22.

Is this a good thing? Last season it seemed that Eastern was significantly stronger than Central, which didn't feel great from a bubble playoffs team leader's perspective. We also had weird situations once a few teams died, where teams ended up playing twice and there were also some matches towards the end of the season between the top and bottom teams of each conference (think lucrative's team vs a team with like 5 rounds won all season). With a single conference, there could have been more competitive matches between the teams on the lower end instead, and we would have a better understanding of where the teams lie in relation to one another. What do you think?

All 3 seasons they have been present there have been issues with conference balance, and it discourages certain teams from scrimming each other because they have no incentive to learn how another team plays if they don't meet them until playoffs. Having 1 larger conference like we used to would pretty much solve both of these problems.

It is probably for the best that there is not conferences. It would boost the competition in the regular season, and it would also make seeding a bit better for playoffs.

Playoffs on the other hand shouldn't be single elimination. The better teams should be on top, and if the two best teams face off against each other in the second round of playoffs, then you have a team going off to win open, and the other sitting back in 8th place unable to do anything. Double elimination would likely fix it.

Conferences + Single Elim. Playoffs = Bad

No.
It's also an unnecessary supplement/detriment to player egos.

There was and never will be a reason to split Open into conferences. I don't know what the rationale is but we should definitely talk to tri about it.

No. Not only because of playoffs ramifications, but also because of how it affects the low open teams. Every season there's a handful of them and I'm sure they'd love to be able to actually play their scrim partners in matches to have a close fun match. Instead they just get to wave at each other from across the conference wall and get pounded by the top team in their respective conferences because they ran out of teams to play. Which means that they're more likely to die and/or have such a demoralizing season that they won't return for the next one.

Quick update: brought it up with Tri, he said he'd look into it but said it was doubtful the conference system could be changed due to how the servers work, thanked us for the feedback though. Unfortunate but not much to be done about it other than get so many teams it becomes a non-issue :(

Are there server location restrictions based on conference? If not we could just get all the Open teams to signup for central.

7:14 PM - Citric: hey following up on what i asked you about conferences, what would happen if all the open teams signed up for central instead of split? somebody suggested that
7:18 PM - tri: they can do that but idk if there would be enough central servers for everyone
7:19 PM - tri: i think i'll try to see if we can just make all servers available for one conference
7:19 PM - tri: but then stil there would be a shortage if everyone wanted chicago for example

everybody signing up for one conference sounds good in theory but if anyone fags out and signs up for a different conference they get instant playoffs

if it's server availability then just have all the same servers available (nyc atl chi dal etc) as a first come first serve like they do for IM

even though conferences deter competition in open, i don't know if it'd be logistically possible to have every team under one conference

they did for like 21 seasons straight before this so i dont think it would be impossible.

2 Conferences causes several problems

-- Increases the chances of current playoff tie-breaker rules unable to fix ties at the end of the season.
-- Stacking many or all good teams into 1 conference
-- Dead teams could cause the same teams to play each other twice in the regular season or getting FFW's (Both of these suck)

conferences are pretty wack, wouldn't want them in the future. it's more fun to play all the teams instead of just a handful by "region" (even though I played central and I'm eastern).
