A simple custom config generator

This is an old thread, please consider posting all your opinions here.

Hello there, fellow players!

As a lot of people tend to complain about how awful and outdated tf2mate is (not to give it's author a dig, I was using it myself for a while, untill I started to care about what I have in my cfg folder, its good but it generates too much stuff), I wrote a very simple basic TF2 config generator. It works kinda like tf2mate, slightly more powerful and it can include heavy binaries like NoHatsMod, explosion smoke script, etc. In fact, there is a possibility to include any custom files that you usually have to carry over your PCs, like HUDs and so on.

>>> cfg.tf <<<

100% Javascript-powered and "open-source". Works in any modern browser.

  • All the settings are separated just in a few files (settings, binds, gfx, network, custom).
Nothing overly complicated, but it works.
  • Feel free to report all the things you don't like here or my GitHub repo. You can clone this and use offline (makes sence a bit, but you will have to dive into my garbage code). Also, you are going to need any kind of simple http server. However, its pretty simple to add your custom files if you are a bit familiar with JavaScript copying and pasting).
  • I'm looking for all the suggestions on what custom files / configs / anything else I should add to this. The more, the better. I post all the updates here.

tl;dr: tf2mate analog with vpk support and less shit inside

would be cool if the question icons next to the commands also had a small description about the command and the link so people using the site wont need to get redirected when they're curious

How do you have the configs setup does it pull from the download link I setup or did you download the files for this. I might be updating my configs soon so kinda curious.
-edit-
seeing as you still have good ole toaster in there I assume you downloaded it and rehosted it lol.

Messed up production stuff, will be back up soon. Not working for now. working again, rolled back to previous version

Right, I rehosted them because they got network settings inside, on GitHub they are, basically, the same but without network settings, and I want users to adjust them manually. Currently, before files are packed they are being stored in RAM and downloading a large binary, then modifying it while it is in RAM is not something I can do (at least the JSZip library does not allow me to do that).

i agree, should be fullscreen. even with a good pc i notice input lag when using windowed, comparable to using dx9 instead of dx8

also imo you shouldnt provide the option to change connection settings. just let people choose between comanglia's 'good' or 'bad' and mention that you should use bad connection if you have high ping variance

I may make an optional dropdown menu so users can adjust them manually if they want, or otherwise use presets.

Updated to a new version! 1.0b

  • Added hints for almost all the custom stuff
  • Added an ability to set core values manually
  • You can now select between fullscreen and windowed
  • Moved to a more modern framework version (this allows us to see those fancy hints)
  • Added validators, you only can type numbers and decimal points in fields
  • Added an option to enable console filter

yahooalso why do you set rate to 60000 if the default value is 80000

Again my thing, I sat in a 32 person pub servers with my rate set to 100,000 I noticed in terms of bits the highest I ever reached was roughly 62,000 which lasted for less than a couple seconds, unless the game starts supporting higher tick rates I doubt the standard 24person pub will ever reach north of 55000 let alone 6s.

Cool.

Would be nice if u added options for simplified bind settings, maybe some common default binds (killbind, c-tap scrip, viewmodel on/off ect.) but also the option to add your own. Also hitsound options and maybe even some common huds.

This would make it the ultimate tf2 custom config generator that new people or old veterans would use.

Yet another update. 2.0.1

  • Extremely fancy design
  • Now everything is separated into tabs with categories
  • Updated headsfeet nohats mod to 23.02
  • You can now enter any custom binds you like
  • There are now buttons to use network settings presets for good, bad and competitive connection
  • Improved progress bar look

Still looking for suggestions, thanks for feedback everyone! Trying to add an ability to support huds now, can be tricky since they are being updated quite often and usually are archived. Also, if Comangila will have a static link to his configs that is always up to date, I can grab them there, just figured out that network settings will override anyway.

this is a REALLY unnecessary dumb request(its not a request. adding this would be a waste of time), but I always add ASCII art to my configs, and I think it would be cool if people could pick premade pictures for their config to be printed to console when they start up the game, and a lot of ASCII art I've tried pasting into my config didnt have any issues besides needing all the (")'s to be replaced with double (')'s.

Added soundscape silencer, thanks. Also added ctap script, I didn't test it though, hope it works. I still don't understand how people manage to properly ctap with non-wait scripts. As for the other stuff - I'll give it a look later, I need to ensure it works consistently and is worth adding.

Aren't those options just placebo? As far as I'm aware interp's lowest possible value is 0.014 and *rate can only go as high as 66

Yep, I added those for when someone started advertising a pug test group for a 128 Tick server pretty sure that's long dead now though.

you should probably remove those settings from your config, I can see people using them just because they're there

Another update. 2.0.3

Pretty small this time

  • Added a tab with hitsound, killsound and combattext_batching settings
  • Added about page
  • Code cleanup
  • Added favicon
  • Added tips for more parameters, also every new confusing parameter has a tip so newer players won't get confused
  • Removed all the filters but "particle" (probably the most spammy one) from confilter.cfg.

Getting ready to implement a crosshair switcher support. I'm looking to dig an information about Low Particles mod, does it work on sv_pure 2 or has any analogs? I can't check it myself and I saw some people use it. Anyway, still looking for feedback'n'stuff.
