AvastYeah usually migrants from stable countries just carry their membership cards for their various extremist organizations around with them.

As an economic migrant you have to have much higher qualifications to get into the country than as a refugee and I would hope that the background check and what not would be much more extensive as they're no danger of you dying because they don't get you out of a war torn country fast enough.

Like this poor guy who is probably really down on himself because no special skills at all and no security deposit. wtf

You do realize those were files leaked from an ISIS database and not actually carried around with them into the countries they traveled right?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/british-terrorist-junaid-hussains-isis-7529352

The article even states that over a quarter of ISIS fighters listed in this leak are Saudis and many more Egyptian. Yet there is no ban on travel from those countries???

People are just going to have to admit this an emotional political move to appease a political base with no real reasoning or intelligence behind it.

I would at least say it was consistent if it had been a ban on all Islamic majority countries where ISIS fighters come from, but it isn't so it's just really dumb.

fen_Nub_Danishfen_cant wait to not see my family for an extended duration of time god blesswhy not go to Lebanon to see them?I'm 100% Syrian. My parents are 100% syrian. My grandpa that I havent seen for 6 years(aka when the war has started) was applying for a visa at that time. At this point even if his visa gets accepted it won't matter. My grandma has a green card here that is legal yet I fear that they would nullify it or something because of this act.

My parents visited our family by traveling to Lebanon and having someone pick them up from the airport in Beirut, but I think that even if they or I did now we would be heavily questioned on our flight back from a Mid-East country, especially with the government knowing that my parents are both immigrants from Syria.

Those are my main concerns with this executive order and I just have wanted this idiotic war to have never existed, I visited my family every summer and Syria was my second home, it's a fair bit of who I am, and now more of that may be ruined.

Well from what you've said I don't think this new executive order changes your ability to go visit them, and I don't find it surprising that you'd get questions when you return back after visited a country in the middle of a war with a terrorist organisation.

Sorry Avast, I am totally not serious and was just trying (poorly) to be funny. I can't and will likely never share political or social opinions on this message board again in a serious light. Only things TF2 related.
Don't mind me in this thread. :)

I've never really payed much attention to political discussion or criticisms in the past. I'm just wondering if Obama faced any of the same criticisms trump is right now when he restricted immigration from (mostly) islamic nations in the past.

Well, they come from New America, as cited in the image. Their data set is available. Leaving that aside, though, pay attention to the actual categories in the image I posted. The 2 figure is specifically for Islamic Jihadist *Immigrants,* which is most relevant to Trump's ban, wouldn't you say? Later, there's a total of 9, which includes citizens.

In your source, TROP (which is explicitly anti-Muslim, I might mention), figures 139 deaths since 9/11. That still works out to roughly 9 per year.

nothing Obama did with muslim immigration restrictions was on this scale

that being said, he DOES get too much of a free pass when it comes to his handling of immigration from Mexico, where he deported far more immigrants than any other president

the el classico of foreign policy: overreacting to the shortcomings of your predecessors and going to the far other end of the spectrum to try and "fix" things. even good presidents like Obama did it (albeit Obama's foreign policy was one of the weakest parts of his administration imo)

Everything people worry about would be so small and petty if we were all in real danger.

Well yes. Presently we really have no reliable way to defend the planet. That is why I wish he was more into that field so we could use our money for projects in space.

Once we all focus our efforts towards space and leave this planet to explore is when we can finally leave our infancy as a species behind. Just 1 mans opinion.

Yes we completely are there is zero way to stop it. Nuking it is impossible, and even if we could, we would just be hit by a lot of smallish meteors instead of one big one, which isn't really better

Okay, but this doesn't change the fact that many more are harmed than killed and those are disregarded here. Along with this many of the jihadists are first generation born in america for instance the Orlando shooters father had connections to alqeda and he got in radicalized his son and boom his son kills some gays

That's fair. I just think there's hard to find a good middle ground as far as muslim immigration is concerned. On one hand, I look at what mass muslim immigration has been doing to the culture of other countries it has effected, and I don't want the same for America. On the other hand, it's hard to justify turning a blind eye to legitimate refugees. I think it would be great if incoming migrants had some sort of assimilation program or something like that to help them adapt, and make sure they can adapt, to American culture. Implementing anything like that, especially with Trump as president. is going to be incredibly hard with all of the cries of racism and disrespect to muslim culture.

This is very similar to the argument that people make when the black community talks about police brutality. Sure black on black crime is the biggest killer of black youth, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't care about police brutality. Of course the biggest killer of Americans is other Americans, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't care about people who kill discriminately because of a political agenda.
