My guess is the pick-ban system is what caught Valve's attention. Didn't Robin Walker suggest that back when he worked on TF2?

the thing is we already did that (arena respawn is a recent example that comes to mind) and they paid no attention to it

Contrathe thing is we already did that (arena respawn is a recent example that comes to mind) and they paid no attention to it

Arena respawn also had class bans (instead of just item bans) and a non-standard game mode, which may have put them off.

that could be why, but unfortunately our option is just to theorycraft because valve won't tell us what they have and haven't looked at, what they specifically want or don't want out of a competitive format, and what feedback they're willing to actually use to improve

it's honestly infuriating to have a company that's ignored our scene for this long come in now, pretend they care now, and still refuse to change their shit competitive mode and highlight this travesty of a challenge cup while not giving us a peep of actual feedback

i'd like to point out that the system message this tournament received means that this cup is equal in value to invite finals in Valve's opinion

Menachemi'd like to point out that the system message this tournament received means that this cup is equal in value to invite finals in Valve's opinion

Or
It could mean Valve just likes to watch Sigafoo's stream, which they have said as much when he went to their HQ.

sure that might be true. then they value them equally because they just like sigafoo. doesnt change the fact they put exactly the same amount of effort into promoting invite finals as they did this

is it wrong for me to think that this tournament is being detrimental to competitive tf2 by giving people wrong ideas of what competitive tf2 should be?

Lonsforis it wrong for me to think that this tournament is being detrimental to competitive tf2 by giving people wrong ideas of what competitive tf2 should be?

It's worse by the fact Valve has pointed players in TF2 to it like it's an officially Valve-sanctioned Valve-supported tournament. Imagine a new player booting up the game for the first time, sees the system message, then goes to the stream to see the 7v7 garbage format and taking it as TF2 competitive mode.

And more valuable than ETF2L finals.

But then again this probably means Valve will advertise the FACEIT tourney as well if they are announcing this thing.

but this tournament is OBJECTIVELY more valuable than etf2l finals in terms of prize money available

it should be very clear to you what the key to getting valve's attention is

manskirt just wasting 2500 on a shitty tournament instead of something actually useful.

I didn't notice this post before but this statement really annoys me on a personal level. I've ran 3 events (2 of them containing 6s) in the last few years and most of the community generally didn't care. So please don't act all offended when someone runs an online event that's different from the norm and pretend like the end of the world is happening. Where was all this potential support when I was trying to fill up lans? They were dismissed as community lans and not taken seriously despite all my efforts to get more high level players there so it WOULD be taken seriously.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful for the turn out at the each event and I've had a blast at all of them, and I will keep doing them (C U 2017). But I always felt like they could have been MORE had the competitive community been accepting of the events.

this was a retarded idea when it was 6v6 changing the playercount doesn't make any fucking difference

it doesn't matter sigafoo is an idiot who wants his portable aimbot to be viable at high levels so he doesn't have to learn how to aim but it's never going to happen
